*Relief washed over Luke, as real and reassuring as a gentle wave upon the beach. He took Cora into his arms, holding her close to him... She held back just as tightly... It gave him the strength to continue, to say what he had been longing to say for so long...*
*His voice is soft, whispering.*
Cora, when I first met you inside the Brink, I knew you were special. I knew you were fun.... We got to be so close, so fast. Before I even knew what was happening... I got to see you, every day.
I didn't see it. All I saw was all the fun we were having. The way we took care of each other. I thought I loved you like my sister.
*He pulls her back ever so slightly to stare into her eyes.* But when you stopped coming..... when you stopped entering into the Brink..... I had no idea what had happened to you. You were gone for so long.
Cora, a long time ago I told you that I could never love you like you wanted me to. I could never be that guy. It's not who I was. I wasn't what you needed. I told you that you were a great girl, and that I saw you as a friend. That was it. Nothing more.

*Luke's bare arms rested gently against hers. He could feel it, the electricity between them... *
Cora, I only told you that because I didn't understand. I couldn't - not then. It was all too much, too real....
When you entered into the Brink last night, when I watched you barely able to speak a word or take a breath, I thought I'd lost it. Even worse, I thought I'd lost you.
Don't you see? After all we've been though, all this time, I'd never seen it. Not until last night.
*Luke draws her near* Cora, you're a friend... but that's never all you'll be to me.

:::friendship, emotion...they were concepts that had been wiped away for so long, it was only starting to come back to her...
She knew that Luke meant so much to her, she could feel it, finally... up until then, she couldn't remember what something like that entailed. But being in his arms, feeling his skin on hers, and being close enough to breathe the same air...it was all so familar, suddenly. She'd been there before.
The blood rushed to her cheeks, and her heart swelled with an emotion once lost to her... :::
Luke...I remember...

Love. She suddenly remembered that she'd been trying to understand something called love ever since she first appeared in the brink...and there it was, right there in her arms. All that time, it had really been so simple:::
