Hooray for Oboes! If only I could do more than self-teach... Also, I keep seeing things about Jones reeds...and I am mentally laughing. Don't use a Jones reed. Don't TOUCH a Jones reed. Why, THINKING about Jones reeds is known to decrease your playing skills. For hobo players, I recommend Fox (or Renard, whatever they happen to be going by these days). You can get them as a three pack for ten bucks at either wwbw.com or the MLK reeds site. I'm not at home, so I don't have the exact links, but...good luck! Also, anyone know where I can get a cheap english horn?

"cheap english horn" is an oxymoron. Unless cheap is about $5000.

I used to play oboe, but I quit because my directors were being total a-holes. I miss it so much!

Squire Felix "cheap english horn" is an oxymoron. Unless cheap is about $5000. Are you kidding me?! Wow... bassoons are so much more expensive. That doesn't even register on the decent instrument scale.... I'm jealous.

Did a Google search for prices. I found quite a few bassoons in the $4,000-$6,000 range. Of course they were almost all resin, and I have no idea how well they'd play. Prices were pretty extreme, ranging from $2,000 to $20,000. English horns: prices ranged from $3,500 to $9,500. Oboes: about the same as English horns.

Yeah, Oboes and other double reed instruments can be alarmingly expensive, not to mention the reeds.

Im the only oboe player in my grade and will be the only one at my high school next year (Im in 8th grade) So I have to play english horn and oboe for concert then i get to play my clarinet for marching. If anyone needs a really good place where to order oboe or english horn reeds please let me know because I order mine from a lady in Michigan (Im in Tennessee) and she does a wonderful job! I mean the reeds are just amzing!
