"She's awake? That's good." Izzy pushed herself up onto her feet and made her way over to Ilandere. "How are you feeling?" She said, while going over the basic medical checks. Her fever had indeed gone down, and she'd need to change the bandages on her arm. But overall, Ilandere looked a lot better.

“It’s getting late in the day.” Themba said, answering Lily’s question. “You all slept for quite a while.”

Themba looked back to Izzy and Ilandere and listened to what they were saying.

“I don’t know.” Ilandere replied with a touch of sarcasm, “How should I feel after I’ve been beaten, stabbed, starving, tired, and ill?”

Izzy laughed gently. "Good point. Speaking of starving, I bet you are very hungery. We'll get you some food, but I think I'd be best if we all stayed here today. I still feel a little worried that we left Saint Dane back there..." She trailed off.

"Anyway!" She said a little to brightly, "You should rest for a few more days. But your shoulder is healing nicely. And your bruises are too."

"Does anyone remember when... Loor said she was getting back?" Lily asked, glancing at the sky. From what Themba had told her, she judged it was well past noon.

“She said she would be back before nightfall.” Ilandere answered weakly, “That is, if nothing goes wrong. Knowing of distant lands here on Zadaa things could be dangerous. I hope she gets back alright.”

“We musn’t worry about those things right now.” Themba said, handing Izzy a fresh roll of bandages to change Ilandere’s wound dressings, “You need to worry less about Loor and more of your own health. You know Loor. She can take care of herself even against a Zhou.”

Izzy furrowed her brow in thought. As far as she knew, Saint Dane was definatly working his demon magic on this territory. From what Ilandere had told her, it seemed as if it wasn't clear on how things would turn out.

As she thought, Izzy almost went through the process of changing the bandages on Ilandere's shoulder mechanically.

Pulling slowly out her thoughts, Izzy spoke, "Well...we need to get you guys some food. You literally inhaled the food Loor bought yesterday. Umm. Ilandere. Since I am the only one not injured at the moment, could you point me in the right direction to get some food? I've only been to Zadaa once. I never came above ground."

Ilandere thought for a moment before responding.

“I’m not sure if that’s such a great idea.” She said, “You’re not dark enough to blend in like a Batu and you wear the clothes of a Rokador. If someone sees you out there, even catches a glimpse of you, they might lock you up or kill you.”

Themba frowned, “Well, we have to get something from somewhere. We need more medicine and other necessities.”

“It would be safer to leave at night.” Ilandere said firmly. There was a loud banging at the door and Ilandere froze.

“Open up!” a young voice said, “Loor, come. You can’t stay mad at me forever!”

Themba put a finger to his lips and tiptoes silently over to the covered window where he peered through a small crack. He relaxed as soon as he saw who it was and looked to Ilandere.

“It’s Saangi.” He whispered.

Lily was slightly puzzled at all of this. What was Rokador and Batu? And why did that mean they couldn't leave? Maybe, it was the skin color. She remembered how dark skinned Loor had been, and they were all... well, white.

“Loor!” Saangi shouted, giving the door a hard pound, “I can hear the voices of others. Do not pretend you are not here and face me! That is an order and challenge!”

Themba stood close to the window and said softly, “Saangi. This is Themba. Loor is not here. She left with a group of Ghee warriors to another tribe and—“

Saangi nearly kicked the door down. She came flying in ready to hit the nearest person upside the head.

“Themba!” she shouted. Themba jumped up and closed the door firmly.

“Quiet Saangi!” he hissed. She looked at him absolutely bewildered.

“How did you get here?!” She whispered furiously, “It is too dangerous for you here! And you have brought others? Themba, you are endangering these people’s lives!”

Themba put a hand up to stop her and said calmly, “It is more dangerous for us in the tunnels than it is for us here, Saangi. We are considered enemies to a group of Rokador and were ambushed. If we go back we are setting ourselves up for death. I was injured as well as Lily and Ilandere. Another friend, Izzy, helped us. Loor is letting us stay here so we are safe.”

Saangi looked from Themba then to the others. She quickly walked to Ilandere and knelt down beside her. She looked to Ilandere’s bandaged shoulder then to her pale face. She stood up and looked to Themba gravely.

“Who is this Rokador?” she said flatly.

“Please, Saangi. All you need to know is that he is an enemy and is much stronger than you can imagine.”

“Stronger than the both of you?” she said incredulously, “I helped Loor train you both myself, you and I both know there is no flaw in your technique. Together you could take down a hundred men, do not tell me one person has done this to the both of you.”

Themba sighed and looked at her sincerely, “This person is more than a hundred men. You see what he has done, do not make us go back.”

Saangi looked to the floor and shook her head. She looked back up and put a hand on Themba’s shoulder. “I’ll be back. I shall stay with you all until Loor returns. Expect me soon.” And with that she left, shutting the door tightly behind her.

Lily let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. Themba an dIlandere seemed to trust the girl, so Lily figured everything would be fine, though a small doubt remainded in her mind.

"Well, that was interesting." Izzy said softly. She shifted standing positions having not moved through that whole incident. "Sooo...it seems like we just get to wait. And sit here. And wait some more." She said with a grin.

Izzy sat on the floor and leaned against the wall next to Ilandere's side.

Lily leaned against the wall as a wave of worry swelled over her. "Themba? Could you quick send a message to my acolyte, Jake? Ask him to write you back? See if the others are safe on Third Earth and all that? I should probably write my journal, too..."

"Hmmm. Which reminds me." Izzy said thoughtfully. "I still don't have one of those. Although...I need to start a journal. But it might be pointless since I have no one to send it too..." She shrugged. "I'd like to know if they were alright as well."

Themba nodded and searched around a bit for parchment and ink. He finally found some and gave it to Lily to write her journals, taking a small piece for himself to send to Lily’s acolyte.

He looked to Ilandere before sitting to write the note and said, “Are you okay? Is there anything you need?”

She shook her head wearily and laid back on the blankets. Themba sat and bent down to write.

Jake-

This is Themba, the acolyte of the traveler from Zadaa. Lily, I am pleased to inform you, is safe on Zadaa with us with only minor discomforts. She requested that I write you to ask if other travelers had arrived on Third Earth yet. Please write back.

-Themba

Themba folded the piece of yellowed parchment and set his ring to the floor. He touched it and said, “Third Earth!” and it opened up wide to receive its message. When the lights and music faded he looked back to Ilandere to see her sleeping soundly once again.

He went and sat beside her and began to hum the melancholy tune of the song he had sang to her many time in the hospital.

Lily took the parchment Themba gave to her, and slowly began to write everything out. It was akward, and her hand cramped easily. Her writing was barel legible. "I'm much better on computer," Lily laughed to herself as she slowly wrote out her story. When she was done, she sent it through her ring to Jake

JAke was in a panicked state, desperatly typing on the keyboard, though he knew it was useless. Where was Lily? It had been a year to the day since she had left, and now Third Earth was... to underexaggerate, in chaos. His ring started to glow, and with a quick glance around him, he darted to a bathroom. The lights from the ring lit up the darkness, and the music drowned out the frenzied shouts. A peice of parchment was deposited. It read Jake-

This is Themba, the acolyte of the traveler from Zadaa. Lily, I am pleased to inform you, is safe on Zadaa with us with only minor discomforts. She requested that I write you to ask if other travelers had arrived on Third Earth yet. Please write back.

-Themba

"What? There were travelers coming?" He swore loudly. Today was not a good day. He couldn't leave the reserch center, not now, with all the computers down, and had no way of knowing if the others were at the flume. He fumbled around the center for a scrap of the rare paper, but all he could find were Lily's reports on Dado. He'd almost forgotten about them. No time to worry now. He scrawled his reply on the back of one of them.
Themba
Sorry, nobody's here, unless they're at the flumes, and right now, there's no way I can get back there to check. lily's safe... that's good. Tell her it's been a year since she left with Jade, and she needs to get back here as soon as she can. Sorry, but it's urgent. Possibly Saint Dane. Tell me when you've reached the flume, I'll come get you.
Jake"
