Kaichiyo could only facepalm as she got a good look at the events under the waves. Never in her life had she seen such a thing. But one thing held true. He was the one holding on. He chose this battle and was determined to see it through. She wasn't going to stop him.

@ Fishing:
Since Kaichiyo had no qualms about voyeurism schadenfreude simply watching, not much would deter the fight from reaching its conclusion.
The battle would go on for about half a minute more. Aritomo gets a blow on the fish's forehead which seems to stun it for a bit, but then its thrashing about got the better of the Dragon. After that half-minute, Kaichiyo sees the marlin swim away, and Aritomo begin swimming back to the kobune down.
Does she make any heroic efforts of her own, or does she allow the ship's crew to do it?

Kyouya had been enough 'help' to the poor Kraken. She simply sat pretty off to the side, watching him in case he needed her to do anything pertinent. Odds were likely, with her spending more time, watching others and being essentially invisible for the past few hours.
What more would you expect a Scorpion to do, honestly?
What would you trust them to do?

"Tch..." she declared with irritation. How could you lose to a fish? But he did. And he was definitely sinking, not swimming. Ropes and an oar weren't going to help him now. Someone needed to go in after him. She knew if she left her vigil the cursed Mantis would mess with her catch, but winning a court competition was not worth the cost of a life.
"Merrily we sailed along~ Though the waves were plenty strong~ Down the twisting river Rhine~ Following a song~" she began to sing as Kyouya's pretty bow was pulled loose and the obi unwound with haste that matched the song's jaunty pace, her enrapturing voice a warm siren's song on the chill winter breeze. "And the winds would cry~ And many men would die~ And all the waves would bow down~ To the Loreley~"
In one smooth motion her kimono was off and flowing to the ground at the same time she left the ship, diving into the icy waters below with the grace of a Kraken. The Void filled her mind to block out thoughts of the stinging water as she shot through it like an arrow, aiming to grab the man and pull him back to the surface, and into range of the saving ropes.
[Athletics/Strength (Swimming) w/ 1 Void Point spent for +1k1, 5k3 vs. TN 20 w/ 1 raise to pull the foolish Dragon back up to safety = 25]

@ Fishing:
The crew began to scramble to recover Aritomo, when suddenly, splash! Kaichiyo dives over the edge of the vessel into the chilling ocean waters below. She would find the inner strength she needed to fight through the biting cold and get to Aritomo before he became a water-breather, and yanked him up above the surface. He gasped as soon as he broke through, so he was still conscious, so yay!
Kaichiyo was even able to swim back to the rescue boat being lowered, which helped them simply raise it again once both samurai were on board. Aritomo had been wounded quite a bit by the fish; in addition to a skewered shoulder, his right hand had a huge gash through the palm, and there were numerous lacerations on his torso and legs. It was hard to see how many, since... y'know, all the blood.
"Awwwww, dammit," Aritomo would say aloud as the crew started to lift up the vessel. "Fishing's harder than I expected. Colder, too. This is... really going to suck when the adrenaline wears off." The Dragon would start to laugh, but quickly contorted and winced in pain.

"Considering the salt, I'm surprised it doesn't suck now." she commented with a quirked brow, suddenly far less fascinated with the cold than she had been since arriving as she sat shivering hard within the boat. "Ffffn... y-your technique is quite unconventional. Perhaps you should start by practicing on smaller fish. ...and in warmer waters... sweet Kami I didn't know this kind of cold EXISTED!"

"It is a b-bit on the c-cold side, isn't it?" Aritomo would confess. "F-forgive the lack of proper b-bow of respect, b-but thank you f-for helping m-me. You m-may have just s-saved my life. Y-you can consider yourself h-having a friend in the Dragon." Aritomo would smile to Kaichiyo, teeth chattering a bit.
After a minute Kaichiyo and Aritomo would be back aboard the Harikein, and the Tortoise seemed rather displeased. Growling, he would confront a blanket-covered Aritomo. "ARE YE MAD?! WHAT THE JIGOKU WAS THAT?!" he would bellow at the man.
"Fishing," Aritomo would respond flatly.
The Tortoise would grit his teeth and tighten his fists. "Ye call that FISHING?! That was stupid! That was irresponsible! That was reckless! That was... was..." he paused, fuming.
"Us getting frostbite while we stand around discussing the past?"
The Tortoise would narrow his gaze at the Dragon. The Dragon would smile politely.
"....... bring the ship back to shore," he would say to his crew, who would immediately set about readying the ship for the return trip. The captain would step up to a blanket-covered Kaichiyo, and bow his head. "Thank you for your efforts earlier, that was brave of ye. I'm sure any ancestors of yours watching were very proud of ye."
Kaichiyo, is there anything you want to do before the kobune returns to port? And/or, any plans for when you return?

"My grandfather, Kitsuki Himura was a proud Dragon." she responded with an equally warm smile as she eagerly (or perhaps anxiously) accepted the blanket. "You were always a friend to me~"
She could only stand by in wide-eyed silence at the reprimanding, and especially Aritomo's flippant response to it. She hadn't yet been given command over a ship, but she could definitely feel the Tortoise's anger. Though when his attention turned to her, it was all she could do to suppress a grin a blissful pride. 'Were you watching Grandfather? Your name will be on the lips of all in court before I'm done here.' "It was just the right thing to do. It may not mean much with how few decades we've been around, but a Kraken has never seen a man drown at sea. I was not about to let that start with me."
What she did upon arriving depended a lot on one thing: as soon as she was done speaking with the good captain, she simply had to go check to see if the Mantis had followed through with his dishonorable deed, looking to see if she had any fish left in her bucket.

"Alright, then. Cast off, and make it quick!" bellowed the captain, and soon, the vessel would be underway.
Kaichiyo, you would find your kimono and obi folded neatly, and your wakizashi positioned carefully across them so the wind would not take them, next to your otherwise undisturbed bucket of fish. The Mantis would be elsewhere on the boat, packing up his things.
Before not too long, the Harikein would return to port...

The little princess gave a bewildered look at the state of her belongings, that slowly shifted to one of shame. All that suspicion and here he was showing care to her things, not breaking them. In the end she could only chalk it up to her own fault. She had failed to follow her own advice, and let a Scorpion get into her head. Satoko was an enemy, for how could she not be, blatantly declaring she was going to murder her and her family. But there was no reason to suspect that any other Mantis would be petty and dishonorable. 'Maybe you shouldn't be proud of me after all.'
She spent much of the trip bundled up and drying herself off with the blanket rather than the open air, only stepping out and getting dressed when the chill was a bit more manageable. Upon arrival she stuck around long enough to be sure the Dragon was being seen to by medical folk, and then it was off to the kitchens. The fishing was the easy part. Now it was time to turn these fish into worthy meals.

HOUR 5
@ Smithing:
Gendo, you proceed with continuing the jitte; it's coming along nicely, and you think it will be a well-crafted item. You feel like you're about halfway there! Are you in this for the long haul, Gendo, or are you going to have a break?
Most of the other smiths seem to be having some difficulty, as the dice believed they are now d4s. However, the Crane woman seemed to be making commendable progress on her weapon - even though it's basically a big hunk of steel still.
She then sends her helper away.
--------------------
@ Paper Making:
Naohiko, you lay out the paper to dry, and for the most part, your struggle is over. They should be dry enough come this evening.
Project complete!
Kyouya, as you stand to the side, you do overhear something Naohiko seems to miss, spoken from a ways away:
"Hurry! Captain Shoji's ship has returned, and one of the fishing competitors was badly injured! They've lost a lot of blood!"
Followed by two sets of footsteps running off and out of auditory range.
--------------------
@ Fishing:
Kaichiyo, the ship returns to port, and you are able to offload your fish. You're feeling a bit chilled still, so here's a question for you: Did you want to start cooking right away, or did you want to take a breather from your activities first?

@ Cooking:
"So, I take it that you're the Minor Clan princess everyone is talking about, hmm?" a woman's voice would say moments after Kaichiyo entered the kitchen area.
A woman in Crane colors would move to approach Kaichiyo, walking in from her field of vision. Snapping a fan shut, she would reveal her narrow, determined eyes as she studied the Kraken. She was a bit taller than average, and only a year or so Kaichiyo's elder. She had short bleached white hair, parted along the middle, that reached down to the top of her ears. She wore very little make-up, noticeable as she pursed her lips before giving Kaichiyo a wry smile.
"You look like you went for a swim in the ocean, Kraken-san. You smell like it, too," she would say bluntly, sniffing a few times. "I've been holding off on preparing my meal - an appetizer of umi budo, followed by a delightful maguro and uni chirashi sushi as the main course, just so you know - in anticipation of meeting you, face to face, in hopes that we can compete side by side and see who can leave the best impression upon Kioko-hime's palate. But, Kraken-san..."
The woman's nose would wrinkle. "Are you sure you want to compete, looking like that?"
(If you are to begin cooking, Kaichiyo, state your intended hours and TN!)

Naohiko gave one last look over the drying trays. They'd be fully ready this evening and they were already taking on the light bluish hue he desired. Unfortunately, they weren't as good as they could be....but maybe they were good enough. Let Kyouya and himself squeak out of this tournament with their heads held high.
Speaking of Kyouya..."Thank you for your help and aid in this matter, Kyouya-san. I am at your disposal should you wish it....or do you wish to be rid of me? I would hope that would not be the case..."
