Vane couldn't move back any farther, and he was all but trapped by the figure's proximity. The only way to go was forward, and he ran for the edge of the platform, slashing blindly at his opponent.

Now he was really trapped, the foggy figure having trapped him in a corner of the platform. He closed his eyes, held his sword out and hoped dying didn't hurt too much.

There was nothing preventing Vane from running the hell out of there now, and that was what he proceeded to do. He didn't care that he could barely see the steps in front of him, he just wanted out. He screamed as he was tripped by something in the fog, and kept screaming as he fell down, down, down...
His throat was sore by the time he realized that he wasn't quite falling to his death anymore so much as floating down slowly. When his feet hit the ground, he didn't quite believe it. Only the glowing red orbs let him know that he was still among the living. He would take one and then--yes, he needed to leave.
Perhaps all of her pent up sorrow had been used in the final death blow.

Shaw descended the steps of Fragment Descent, watching fog curl across the floating platforms. In his mind, it slid in and out with sinister purpose, and this time he tried to avoid it. It was to no avail, as when he least expected it, it swirled around his ankles -
She would die here. She gripped her weapon as a calm suffused her, and she grinned up at their endless numbers, snarling in defiance.
She would take some of them with her. That had to be enough.
She was steel, and this was her crucible.
Shaw snarled, raising his staff to the air and throwing himself forward, toward the far end of the platform and the unseen enemies -

Now all she had to do was fall, so she did. Skaaal let the platform quickly beneath her weight and she fell through the air. Her arm reached out for nowhere just as her descent slowed and her feet touched solid ground. She said nothing as she plucked the final orb.

He could feel him, worming his way inside. His sick and disgusting joy in hurting people, betraying them. He could feel a corruption of power pulling his frown into a twisted smirk. No... no! That wasn't who he was! He'd never be like that!
Itoto looked up, his face wrought in horror as faces emerged from the fog. They mocked him. All of them. Mocked him and tormented his mental state.
He finally reached a bigger platform, taking this time to catch his breath, his hands clinging to his grey and dreary shirt covering his chest; and his glowing red heart. His heart ached. Why were these terrible emotions plaguing him? He wanted to make it go away! Make it all go away!
He looked up with a gasp. A figure emerged from the fog as the cracks in the ground glowed bright red. It was him! He was the reason he felt this way! Itoto immediately drew his sword, screaming aloud as he tore through the fog to slash his blade across the monster's chest. He could do it! He could kill this creature and make the pain go away forever!
Sickeningly he felt his face twist into that demented and cruel smirk again.

His first attack had been vicious, and relentless. The figure attacked him in turn, but had not nearly hurt or deterred Itoto. His mind was reeling, fighting his own emotions and that of the entity he was fighting. He wouldn't be that scoundrel! But then why was he taking such sick pleasure in all this?

Lectoa wasn't very good with directions, so she wasn't surprised to suddenly find herself on a pathway of platforms. Well, this looked interesting, so why not? She laughed and hoped her way from platform to platform. But as suddenly as she had walked onto the path, she fell to the ground in a swirling mist of fog.
Her own laughter filled her ears as she casually tore off a limb. "How about another?" she wondered aloud with a cruel grin. She wasn't dead yet, but she would be soon. The thought filled her with a strange sense of disappointment, as she had yet to finish playing. But at the very least she had a number of other soldiers to toy with once this one was done, discarded. More laughter as she reached for--

She stepped onto a particularly large platform. While Lectoa initially thought to sit down and rest, she perked up when she found she wasn't alone after all. Her claws clicked quietly as she drew her weapon. She grinned. "Sweet."
