Melvin had been resting his head against the side of the tiger, eyes half open as he listened to Mass' heartbeat, the chemist's head rising and falling every time the tiger's chest expanded and fell. When Rep came, Melvin made no move just yet to sit up. "I'm starting to like your tiger." He said, listening. "He has a good heart." He smiled.
Sitting up, he looked at Rep and noticed Nuk was gone. "Did Nuk already leave? I wanted him to tell Saliva I'd be staying here."

Rep's gaze fell on Melvin as he spoke and it took all his effort not to glare. The tiger wasn't Massacre but some false thing, an insult to the real one. The same way that other self was an insult to him and all he stood for, it belittled his little cow with its fanciness. He had nothing nice to say about it, so said nothing at all, instead focusing on the man's other question.
"He headed off to the battlefield. But I told him to pass on that you'd be staying here.", it was a lie but that didn't matter. This Melvin and his version of Saliva would be together again soon enough, wherever it was that these shadows of people went.
His smile wasn't cruel as he said reassuringly. "Lets go for a walk and I'll tell you what I need from you." his gaze flicked to the not-Mass. "The tiger can come too."

"Okay." Melvin slipped off the couch, patting his legs to get Mass' attention. "Steak!" He said, and watched the cat move. Without Saliva, the tiger was just a comforting presence when his guard wasn't by his side, and he moved up to Rep so he could lead the way. Considering they rarely spoke, Rep was quickly becoming a close friend to him in a very small circle of people he actually spoke with.
"I know it's wrong to say this, after everyone who's made sacrifices for the kingdom, but...I'm glad I'm not in the battlefield. I don't think I could save anyone when it came down to it, and I think I'd keep Saliva down. I wouldn't want her dying because of me. I don't think I could live with her blood on my hands seeing as how I care about her." He breathed out, and looked up at the Queen. "Thank you. I'll help in any other way I can for everyone."

"It's fine. Some people just don't ******** belong on the battlefield." he said. "Some people are born to it, born to die fighting and every ******** thing their life sends them makes them choose between one fight and another. There's never really a way out." He led the way to another of those rooms, familiar with the layout of the place thanks to the memories that lingered like fog in his mind. "I thought it'd be nice to give you the way out no one ever afforded me."
He closed the door behind them, ignoring the expectant way that Mass kept looking at him.

He followed into the side room, and noticed it had no view. It wasn't exactly the best place for a walk, and held a serious, private air. Confused, he turned around to look at Rep, waiting.
"A way out? But...I don't want to leave the Blue Kingdom. Everyone I've come to know and respect are here. They've protected me for a long time. I'd be tortured and dead without them. I couldn't leave Saliva behind." He frowned. "And I just started talking with you and Nuk. I want to get to know you both better." He smiled down at Mass. "And Mass too."
He looked back at Rep. "Am I....that much of a burden to the family?"

"You aren't leaving blue kingdom. What I have planned for you. Well. It's an honour, you can be part of it forever, you earned it. We wouldn't have what we do without you." he rattled the pill bottle before putting it away. "Not a burden. You've earned this and more besides. You've made me re-think about someone I thought I knew."
He looked from the tiger back to Melvin. "I've come to set you free."
Stepping in front of the door, he summoned his claws coolly.
"This won't hurt. For long."
He lashed out at them both in a wide sweep.

Both of them also jolted at the sound of the explosion, and breaking glass but when they turned back around, the Silver King was gone.
They both felt it, the sucking drain of power, their reserves-
"s**t," Harrison said, "How'd he get to the supplies?" He sprang to the door, B0nez pulling up alternate security feeds, Rep's taking less priority.
"The warehouse!" B0nez moaned, "it's gone, taken out, s**t-"
The glass in the front of the Casino had crunched in from the damage, the Tower itself still intact but the overall damage to them heavy. About 2/5ths of their resources. Gone.
"The Lower East Side-" B0nez said,
"I know, I know!" Harrison stormed through the Casino to go pick up his jacket.
B0nez noticed the room Rep and Nuk had been in was empty, he scanned the Casino's security cameras for any sight of the pair (or the Silver King) and found Rep and Melvin instead. Different room.
"Who was that guy? What the ******** did he mean, fake human s**t?" Harrison demanded.

An honor? The idea he was being granted not only a free pass not to fight, but a honor for his hard work had him both breathing out the waves of self-doubt about his usefullness when everyone around him were sacrificing themselves, and also brimming that he met a high standard. For Harrison, that was production and loyalty, but for Rep, well, he felt that was a different standard he never hoped to touch. "I'm..I'm honored that ...that you'd even..." He was beside himself and hadn't noticed Rep move to block the door or summon his claws, instead looking at the floor as he collected his flustered thoughts.
When his eyes rose up, sparkling bright above a repressed smile that threatened to break into a full grin, he noticed the shadowy claws. It was shock and confusion that rose up, not sure what was going on, but like any animal that knew a predator was in the room, he felt his heart start to beat faster. Something wasn't right.
"Hurt?" He repeated, before the claws down and tore the hoodie that Rep had given him as an act of kindness only a short while ago. It dove deep into the wrinkled shirt and into his skin, and threw him back into the conference chairs.
His hands reached for the table, but he fell back, hitting his head against a chair before falling to the ground. Clutching his stomach, he laid there and cried out. "Ah.....it hurts! You...Why did you hit me?!" He touched his torn chest and held up his hands, watching dark red blood drip between his fingers and down his wrists. So much blood.
Wide blue eyes stared at his hands as his thin chest exhaled and inhaled quickly, panic flooding his system as he looked up at Rep and his claws. "Why? I thought we were friends? This is a safe place....." He looked around at the ground as if the answers and more coherent thoughts would be found there, before looking back up. "You're the Queen." He wasn't supposed to be doing this.

He was sorry.
Just a fragment of nothing but he was sorry. This Melvin had put his faith in him, trusted him to protect him from all the things outside that might harm them, in a way he could only ever hope the suspicious, finicky Melvin back home might. He'd been given a chance to show his true intentions and instead he had to kill him.
Gritting his teeth he readied his claws again. "We are friends." he hissed. "It's why I have to do this. No one else."
He narrowed his eyes.
"If it makes it any less painful, I'm not the Queen. Your queen cared for you a lot. I have people I care for too. Its why I have to do this."
Lunging forward the claws were readied again, but this time with a roar of confused fury, Mass leapt for him.
The reaction was instinctual and quick. There was a loud snap and what had been several hundred pounds of angry fat tiger hit the floor, nothing more than another unprocessed fur boa. He tried not to think about it. Don't think, just act.
Melvin took the brunt of what was left of his momentum.

Infighting.
B0nez snapped the laptop closed. "I'm going into the back," he told Harrison.
Harrison complained, "and who the ******** is going to clean up all this broken glass- why, what's that's in the back?"
B0nez hurried, taking out his keyring and unlocking the door that Melvin, Rep, and Mass were behind in an easy turn from the masterkey.
The laptop was still tucked under his arm, and he arrived just in time to see Mass tossed to the side, dead, and Melvin being torn into.
B0nez was not really a man of action. He stood awkwardly, a stab of annoyance lancing through him, and when everything else was already going wrong- "H-hey!" he piped up, "I...I spent HP on that-"
Harrison, coming in from behind B0nez, did act. He couldn't attack, sure, but there was one thing he could do- he grabbed a silver serving tray, and using it as a shield, was in between Rep and Melvin in a flash.
The tray itself wouldn't do much good- he knew Rep's claws could slice through the metal like, butter, but it was better than his arm.
"What the hell is going on around here?" he demanded.

As Rep advanced, Melvin scrambled back, kicking his legs to get enough footing to stand, but before he could even protect himself, a flash of blue and a white ribbon blocked his sight. Mass had turned on his master, and had attempted, maybe as a shield Melvin or to hurt Rep, to stop what was transpiring. Despite the creatures size, it had never seemed like much of a killer. Maybe it's heart wasn't into it in the end, but for whatever reason, it dropped with a heavy, soft thud of it's body, and while just before Melvin had rested his head against it's warm body to hear it's heart, he watched it's chest inhale, exhale, and still as he laid on the floor. It's lovely white bow now red.
The weight of it's body as it had fell had fallen on his lap, and panicking at the example that Rep was very serious, the chemist scrambled in a panic to shove the tiger off of him. After rolling a heavy leg off his body, he rose up and stepped back, looking around for escape, but Rep was blocking the door. Great tears rolled down his face. "You're no friend! You're a MONSTER! Mass LOVED you!" His voice was cracking. "He was your friend.....I was your friend.... He didn't do anything wrong!" He wiped his eyes, smearing blood over his face, his blood, before looking at his hands. He wiped them off what little fabric the hoodie was now in, still concerned about being clean.
"Saliva!" He cried. "Saliva!" He called out hopelessly for his guard, but knew she wasn't anywhere nearby to save him. "HELP! ANYONE!" He called, hoping the staff could get to him and kill this imposter! "NUK!"
There was no one here.
"Please! You don't have to do this! Please!" He guarded himself, looking at Rep, then down at Mass as he saw him dissolve, and then, knowing he would die if he stayed.
He was about to make a break for the door when another door opened out of nowhere, and Bonez and Harrison entered. At the question of what was going on, Melvin raced to their side, pointing frantically at Rep. "He killed Mass! He's trying to k-kill me! He's not the Queen! He's not!"

Jordan stood in the doorway, his eyes simultaneously sad and cold. "Sorry, Melvin," he said, and looked past the chemist to Harrison. It still hurt to see this fragment, this Harrison who wasn't the Harrison he knew, but who looked like him, who resembled him in so many ways. "Sorry," he said again, mouth twisting with real regret. "It's not real," he said. "This world isn't real, and it's falling apart."
He stepped into the room; Ferros, once again behind him, moved to block the doorway. "In the real world," Jordan said, moving to Harrison's side, "you're in a coma, and we can't wake you up. It's killing you. It's killing us. We came to get you out."

Melvin's words hurt. Of course they did, he thought. He wanted to be a monster, wanted to be able to shove his emotions into a box and leave them there while he did what needed to be done. Everyone called him it, why wasn't it easier to simply be it?, to don it like the furs he so often wore.
He was about to attack again, claws raised when B0nez and Harrison arrived and defended Melvin.
Rather than strike even the tray Harrison held out, he recoiled so hard he staggered backwards and stumbled, falling heavily to the ground. It was as if he'd hit some invisible shield around the man, but for just an instant he had remembered the searing sand, the hurt, the anger the want and how one callous action had cost him almost all of that.
"I.. I just.. I" he stammered
And Jordan was there, and Ferros and Tracey and it was all that kept him from losing it, from breaking down completely.
"Wh..what he said." high on adrenaline and emotions, his façade of chilliness cracked and so too did his voice, almost a whisper. "I just want my Ace back."

"...You....you been talking to that Silver guy?"
Harrison lowered the platter reluctantly, keeping Melvin behind him.
"Like, he used...a power on you or something? You know me. You know this place. We been here for years- we, we built it from the ground up. You remember. You know. Jordan."
He looked at them both.
Fake human treasure. Ask how you were created.
He'd wanted to talk to them, and now... he reached up to take Jordan's face gently in hand, where his tattoo still blazed blue. He felt torn in two directions- on the one hand, there was a lot that didn't make much sense. But...a coma? It sounded like something out of a soap opera. And he had memories- vivid, pressing- But he knew...he'd been there, they'd all been there, and the Silver King had blown up half his s**t, so maybe it was possible he had thrown the wool over Rep and Jordan's eyes...how'd he get so much power? Nothing was making sense any more. All the basic questions had gone unanswered in that meeting. Who was the Voice. Why the Tournament, why him, what was the catch? What was behind it all?
"You remember?" he entreated again.

Melvin hide behind Harrison, the blood drying on his chest, and looked worried and afraid. "Don't, Boss! He's crazy! He'll hurt you!" He didn't want Harrison harmed, and with everyone at the battlefield, there were no guards to really protect him.
When Jordan came as well, he felt his heart drop. Jordan had been the one to help him stay focused and calm in the labs, organizing shipments and one of the few people Melvin knew from regular visitations. To see him also siding with Rep made him feel even more betrayed. "Not you too."
"You two want to overthrow the King? You planned this all along, didn't you? Who are you working for?!"
