"I thought you came up here to tell me he left with saying goodbye." Lark said her voice broken by tears as she cried but even though she didn't know it or couldn't hear it just then Devon was getting more and more impatient and upset because she was. "I was trying to be brave all this time I hoped he didn't have to go I still don't want him to but if he has to I want to go with him because it's hard to feel safe when he's not nearby and hes going far away this time, how can I stand on my own to feet if I don't have any and I never did have any like my courage it's all gone." Lark was curled up on the bed sobbing hard feeling small alone and scared really seeing the difference between how wolves work and they strength they had compared to her and any other person and she came out feeling less than nothing

"No. I told him to stay downstairs while I tried to talk some sense into you. Devon near panicking from your stress downstairs. If he came up here he'd give in and stay. He can't afford to do that." Theresa said, sitting beside the girl on the bed. She reach out to rub her back. "You don't have to be brave, yet. You can take your time finding your feet. But you need to stop thinking that you are alone, Lark. Devon is your mate now and a wolf. Wolves come in packs. You are one of his pack now. His partner. If you look around, you'll find many people willing to protect you. Like a very large, sometimes furry family." she joked, trying to ease the girls fears. "Even when Devon is gone, you're not alone."

Lark smiled a little at the joke finally managing to calm down some but not much she still felt bad though. "Ok I understand but I don't like it." Lark said not voicing how strange it felt to not belong in the human world but to belong in Devon's world which was full of werewolves.

A fist banged on the door hard causing Theresa to sigh. "I'm guessing that is as much as he can stand." she muttered. "Remember what I said Lark. Kaleb and I will be here and whoever else will guard the town." She rose and opened the door. "All yours."
Devon peeked in, trying his best to hide his worry and guilt from Lark. It wasn't working well. However, he didn't want to upset her more. He strode over to sit on the bed. "I'm sorry." he said guiltily.

"I hope that sorry includes the new dent you put in my door." Lark said trying to be light even though she was just as downhearted as he was if not more she sighed trying not to start crying all over again even though a tear escaped from her eyes as she leaned against him. "I'm sorry too."

Devon wrapped his arms around her. "It won't be long Lark. I'll be back before you know it. You'll see." he assured his love. He looked around the room and sighed. It seemed like he'd been living in here sense she got sick. Now he was going to miss it. But he had a job to do. "My parents are staying here. As well as Sharon and her husband. And many others." he added.

"Its not exactly a business trip Devon I know you'll stay until you find them and it sounds like it will be awhile and I think I'll know it and hate every minute of it." Lark said sadly still holding off on crying until he left she didn't want to cohere him into staying when he had to go no matter how much she hated it. "Why is it so hard Devon?" she asked instead

Devon looked down at her sadly. "Because this connection is new. Really? I don't know why it is. Or if this every gets easier. All I know is this feels wrong." he growled, irritated. "I'll try my best to find them, so I can get back to you." he promised.

"How do you deal with it." Lark asked hiding her face in his chest and grabbing the hem of his sweater giving her self the illusion that she was physically holding him there when they both she that could never hold back unless he allows her. She sniffed miserable somewhat comforted by his growling if only a little. "Devon could you hold off leaving just until the morning please." she asked in a soft voice holding on tighter

Devon could feel Larks grip tighten on his. He didn't care. If he could he would let her keep him there. If only. "I don't know. Remember. This is as new for me as for you. You might get a better answer from my mother." he suggested. At her request, he tried to remain steadfast. But her pleading tone and raw emotions melted it. And he didn't really fight too hard. "I think I can at least stay til morning." he agreed. "It will let all of us going say our good byes." He kissed the top of her head, holding her tightly.

Lark breathed in a heavy sigh of relief a little happier that he agreed to stay with her even if it was only until the morning for not knowing it was a struggle for him to even agree to do what she asked but at least now she knew she could have at least one night of rest before he was gone. Lark relaxed in his grip and let him hold on to her

Devon held her quietly for a time. He closed his eyes and sent out a tendril of though to those in the pack that would join him. He explained the postponement and was met with a variety of reaction. Relief, acceptance, irritation and over all annoyance. He understood that feeling. As much as he wanted to stay with Lark, his wolf wanted otherwise. To run and hunt. To feel his prey's fear and rejoice in a kill. It was a side of himself he couldn't show Lark, though he wished he could. To both sides of him Lark was his mate through and through. His wolf was irritated she could not join him on a hunt. It made the thought of turning her come to mind. But he wouldn't. He couldn't force that on her. He would never put such a heavy burden on her shoulders. Not now. Devon pulled her tighter against him as if to protect her from even the slightest ill word. He placed his head on her, breathing it her scent. "I love you, my little Lark."

Lark smiled against him where she had laid her head on top of his heart listening to the beat of it in the peaceful trace - like state that she had found herself in the protective circle of his arms the state was akin to the feeling she gets when in deep thought or engrossed in drawing a picture she sees in her mind. For the first time in forever she wasn't scared, crying or even worried about the next moment but she was in the present and she was at peace and she was happy right where she was and she didn't want to leave the safety of Devon's arms but she knew that he would have to leave but for the moment she didn't dwell on it because that was to saddening and scary all at once. "I love you too my white wolf." she responded
