Importance of Being Lucie

The office of Headmistress Lillian Nikolai had been as ordinary and busy as usual. As daylight became dusk, things quieted down, and all the portraits of headmasters past had nestled up to rest and prepare for the coming day’s trials. However, this peace was disturbed by a large green burst of fire that exploded in the office’s large fireplace. When the flames died down and the smoke cleared, a small and skeletal figure appeared.
This visitor had clothes that were much warmer and thicker than necessary for the warm June air. They were a lively emerald green, richly embroidered, however they appeared to hang off the woman, as though she had not had a hearty meal in ages. Her head sported jet-black hair that was cropped, framing her face with lifeless curls. Her face was lined, perhaps prematurely, and her teeth when bared appeared yellow and canine-like. Most striking were her eyes, permanently narrowed in suspicion, a strangely jaundiced color.
The stranger drew herself up to her full height, sniffed the air in a manner either of triumph or to seek out her victim, and then gloated in a cruel voice, “Hello Lilly, have you missed your dear friend?”
Before she had received the answer, the same hardened voice cried, “IMPERIO!”

She heard someone say something but couldn't tell what it was.... something... was wrong...but...Ah..it was bliss not to feel or think...but was it really? Lillian's life had been so depressing lately, how could start being happy so suddenly?, The sane part of her mind asked itself. After Callysto had left her..life had been a nightmare. But now she had plummeted headfirst, suddenly, into a wonderful dream...this was a different kind of happiness though, not the normal happiness she felt what seemed like ages ago......it wiped her mind clean, free to wander...but a voice was awakening in Lillian's head.."WAKE UP" it seemed to shout, as if from a distance....."Obey me." the other one said..."I WON'T!" another yelled back...it was like her mind was arguing with itself...and there was nothing she could do...
she was completely caught off guard...had barely seen a glimpse of who had even cast the curse...it had been a rival of hers..just someone who disagreed with her and had now taken it too far...Desdemona was it?..an old rival who had also wanted the headmaster's job, but had loved the dark arts too much.. But hadn't she fled to Siberia many years ago?. No..wait..Lillian remembered Desdemona swearing to get revenge..well as Lillian fought the curse..she was getting it now....Lillian felt like she was somewhere in between reality and oblivion as she tried to fight the curse...but she was helpless before it, and couldn't summon her strength when her mind had been so unprepared against an attack in any form...so weak..so vulnerable...she heard someone laughing from what seemed like across the ocean...she cried out but it was muffled by someone's hand across her mouth...they were pointing the wand at her head...what choice did she have, her arms didn't have the willpower to move as the curse told her not to struggle...just to obey...obey...act as if nothing was wrong...bend Hogwarts to their will...obey..obey...
the words seemed to echo throughout her head, and she could practically feel all of her effort and attempts to gather herself slowly leaving her....before she knew what was even happening, her head was moving up and down, nodding at her master's command...she heard more laughing...the last bit of strength and resistance tried to run, but she stumbled and fell...hitting the floor hard she could taste blood in her mouth, running down her nose...more laughing...and it sounded even further away now...just obey.....

Desdemona had crossed the room and kneeled over her victim, clapping her hand over her mouth, preventing any attempt to call for help.
The intruder let out a cackle as the headmistress struggled in vain against the curse. “Oh, Lillian!” she snickered. “Who would have thought we would end up like this? Desdemona Eleanore and Lillian van Nikolai: sworn enemies! But now I finally have Hogwarts. And you? You will be my puppet! Now. Let’s put this curse to the test! You will make an announcement to the school, and it will be about some new revisions I’ve made to Hogwarts.” The woman who called herself Desdemona grinned a wicked grin and laughed wolfishly.

"Yes of course master..." Lillian said impassively.
She sent out the announcement and sat down on the cold, hard floor, her face blank. But her mind was at war. One side was screaming out, begging trying to be heard, the other shouting it down, currently winning.
Lillian gave a low bow to Desdemona and sat on the floor as one side of her mind had told her to do. She looked up at Desdemona laughing, and her eyes widened slightly.
"You.." she whispered..."YOU!" And she was lunging at the woman, throwing off the curse, trying to fight it, but when she was inches from her, she fell back down on the floor and was struggling an internal battle in which she had no control...

Looking at her captive, her prisoner, her hostage, Desdemona could not shake an unfamiliar feeling of glee. She had triumphed! The rest? The rest would be easy. But first, it was time to show Lilly dear who her master was.
In a burst of defiance that stemmed from almost nowhere, the cursed woman lunged at Desdemona. "How dare you disobey me!" she shrieked. Gripping her wand with a claw-like hand, she howled, “CRUCIO!” and watched as the woman writhed in pain.

She was screaming unearthly sounds that filled the room and echoed all over the walls. She was curled up in a tight ball as if she was trying to make herself a smaller target. “PLEASE!” She screeched, hardly knowing what she was asking for, barely knowing where or who she was anymore. She just wanted to pain to stop..the knives to stop burning her skin and stabbing her...the nightmare to end...She rolled on the floor and was writhing in agony..she saw someone through her blurry eyes watching her...laughing at her pain...
“NO!” She was yelling, as if her anger and pain would stop the curse. Tears were filling her eyes now when she understood that this woman knew no bounds. Someone has to find me, she can't do this forever. Every bit of defiance in her tried to fight the curse, but she let it consume her nevertheless. The blood that was still filling up her mouth from her fall was dripping all over the floor, staining her dress and rug..

Desdemona was in awe of her power over the situation and the beauty of the agony of the headmistress. Her cries were like sweet mulled mead to Desdemona. She seemed to be floating from above, getting a bird’s-eye view of the scene. It was pure ecstasy. She had imagined this moment for nearly two decades. The thrill of the moment was better than she ever could have dreamed.
After what seemed like hours, but in reality were but a few moments, Desdemona realized too much would ruin her chances of Lilly’s physical ability to cooperate. She disappointingly lifted the curse and watched as the woman sank down to the cold, stone floor. "You will behave," she growled.

She choked for a moment on blood and tears as the curse was lifted. The pain had stopped..
"Yes..master.." She gurgled and spluttered, drops of blood splattering her hands. She spit out the remainder of blood and tears onto the floor and rug, watching as they slowly were absorbed by the carpet.
Master was now walking around the office with a huge smile on her face. The second half of her mind was now telling her to sleep and wait for orders tommorow...she did feel quite tired..
"Gladly...master..." she murmmered, and she sank to the floor, asleep, using her long hair like a pillow cushion.
[NOTE: This room is locked and bolted and I made the announcement that no one was allowed in and your character could have no way of knowing this is happening. Don't god-mod and try and defeat her]

Desdemona grinned a devilish grin, ignoring the bleeding and unconscious woman on the stone floor, she invited herself to rummage through the office, sneering and destroying objects that were dear to the headmistress.
The now roused portraits looked up in disapproval of this newcomer, but Desdemona pointed her wand and said viciously, "If you even think about alerting any of your friends, I'll slash you!" The captured impressions shook with fear.
Desdemona turned and saw the great desk and throne of the headmaster. With immense glee, she stepped over the mess of papers and broken glass on the ground and eased into the cushioned chair, cackling with delight at her success.

*** The next morning, Lillian woke up, not feeling refreshed at all. She kept trying to fight the curse, but was trapped in her office all night long with her master....once, Lillian could feel something, like she was truly waking up...and she tried to run for it...it was like a light bulb had went off in her brain...her mouth was moving “HELP” but no words were coming out...someone had to be concerned...someone must know that she would never want Hogwarts in danger...someone must come....but no one could. No one was allowed in her office by order of the master....she at one point noticed how many of her precious instruments were broken and smashed..thankfully desdemona had merely tossed Lillian's wand aside and not snapped it..and the picture of her family..her diary..was still safe. that no one could open but her... last night Lillian was trying to fight the curse and had stumbled to the door even...but master just cackled, made sure the door was locked, and then punched Lillian's face, sending her flying into the wall, where her head smashed against the brick and gave her a huge lump there...she had slumped to the floor unconscious...making her weaker, not having strength left in her...a better victim for her master's imperius curse...she kept trying to fight it..honestly she did...but why put yourself in even more danger...why drain yourself of even more strength...why let yourself be a victim even more so than you already are...she tried to leap from the window, tried to dissapparate..but master caught her attempting to focus all her energy and turning...she had been beaten again for this...it was like what her husband had done all those years ago...and what happened in Callysto's classroom so recently...it was like the nightmare all over again...she had bruises blooming on her face and arms...her legs were too weak to support her... she had been tortured into submission...but she was alive...and surely there was hope as long as that remained fact...someone would come...someone had to realize something wasn't right...It had only been a day...she told herself calmly. Just keep fighting it and don't give up...try to fight, don't give up...

Desdemona was seething with fury. Lilly was trying so miserably hard to fight the Imperius curse. Each time, she had been punished accordingly, for sure, but what would happen if she actually managed to do it? Desdemona would remedy that the only way she knew how: violence, and the more, the better.
Perched upon her throne she asked her captive in a dangerously sweet tone, "How long will it take you to realize I've won, dear?"

Lillian looked Desdemona in her narrowed eyes and filled her large blue ones with as much hatred and fury as she could muster.
"I'd give it about an eternity or so." She said coldly, and sneered before looking back down onto the ground and wincing when she saw all the bruises on her legs. She tried to stand, but gave up, then sat on a chair, and put her head on her knees, with her hands folded ontop of her head. She was shaking all over, but still refused to break.

Desdemona let out an ear-piercing shriek of indignation and leaped out from behind the headmistress's desk, launching herself at the injured woman. Grabbing Lillian by her chestnut curls, she pulled the woman to eye-level, then said in a deadly voice, "Eternity is where you're heading if you don't obey your master!"
Throwing her victim to the ground, Desdemona snarled and cried, "Crucio!", watching once again, for the perhaps hundredth time on cloud nine as Lilly screamed in pain.

Lillian supressed a smile as she heard Desdemona's furious scream, but her expression was soon replaced by a look of pure terror as she was staring into her eyes. She closed her eyes tight and gritted her teeth in pain as she was thrown to the ground, and as she heard Desdemona shout Crucio, she wished she hadn't said a thing...
It was more painful than anything she had ever suffered, and with Desdemona's rage backing the curse, it was as if her insides were on fire. Every inch of her body in pain, white-hot, she was screaming, but there was hardly any noise coming out of her mouth as her master gagged her and watched her twist in pain..... Master didn't lift her wand, but let the pain overcome Lillian...let it consume her until she was on the verge of madness, easy to bend to her command and ready to do her bidding....and Lillian was trying to fight the pain...but master just laughed....and laughed...and the laughter seemed to go on forever, and the pain seemed endless. “ Oh God let it stop let it stop please let me die let me die make it stop make it stop let me die” kept ringing throughout her ears until she wanted to be imperiused again, just to make the pain leave her.. Because the pain was unbearable...and master wouldn't lift their wand...and tears were falling like waterfalls now... Master was heartless...so heartless...and when it did stop Lillian couldn't even lift her head... Deep cuts were all over her skin..and she would surely die here in a puddle of her own blood, a small pool forming around her...perhaps she would love die in it, not to have to feel... She was gagging on the cloth that she had not been able to remove... It was wet with tears and blood and her moans were filled with pain... “And oh God please imperius me again, make them I beg it of you now and just make the pain stop, just make me not feel anymore....”

Lillian's sudden compliance brought Desdemona out of the almost-other worldly feeling of ecstasy she felt from torturing her. It was a shame, having to leave the sense of accomplishment associated with total control of a person's sanity. However. This was still good news.
Giving a half-mock, half-true sigh, Desdemona ended the curse and said, "Since I'm such a forgiving-" she took the rag from dear Lilly's mouth and began gently wiping the blood from her swollen lips, "-and kind soul, I'll give you a second chance."
Her eyes narrowed, and her claw-like fingers dug into the headmistress's cheek. "But. The next time you disobey me, it's the end of the line for you," she hissed. "And you should not count your students safe, either."
