Sy tried to help Delta get comfortable, all to no avail. Delta was still throwing a little hissy fit because she had insinuated SHE wanted to see Alyosha. "Oh yes, we've finally gotten everything unpacked." She smiled brightly, as she really did love her new home and the new climate. It was such a nice change of pace.

"Oh, I'm glad. I wanted to give everyone who helped me move in something as well as Aly-..." a pause, and then she panicked. But just a little. "N-not that we're seeing each other or anything." @____@ "Y-you didn't hear that!" Turning bright red she started to get fluster and fidget, which caused Delta to get upset (after all, her nice cushy seat was moving).

In a matter of seconds there was a flurry of brown feathers, squawking, and a blushing Sy trying to calm her upset daughter.

Kiro paused for a moment, frowning. He never had found out what had happened between Sy and Alyosha that day when he'd handed in the report and overheard... whatever had been taking place. He'd been concerned at the time, but the thought had drifted from his mind. They seemed to be getting along okay that time at the baths. But now she was stumbling everytime she said his name.

Kiro paused, thinking how to word himself. "Are things... okay... with you two?" He paused again. "Just... I dunno, you're acting kind of... strange about him over the last few days..." He felt his tail twitch uncomfortably about the chairleg as he spoke, and he blushed slightly feeling rude for asking the question so openly. He wasn't nosey, just concerned. And if she told him everything was alright - and meant it - he'd take that at face value.

Delta was still squawking and flapping and jumping and attempting to fly all at the same time. Finally she made it to the floor where, although it was dirty, she could ignore the conversation and there was stable, non-squishy ground. Miffed, she pranced to a cushion and began to preen her wing feathers, pausing to glare at the both of them everytime she noticed a feather out of place.

Syrenrei turned such a virbant red she almost seemed bright purple, and started to hack and cough at the same time. It almost seemed as if she were choking on the words in a very literal manner. "I-I-I'm acting strange? Do you think he's avoiding me? OHMYGODS, maybe he just said he'd date me to be nice!" She jumped up, looking like a madwoman. "Oh dear, oh dear, you didn't hear that. No no, I'm sure it's all fine. You won't say anything to him, will you? Oh please!"

His eyes wide, Kiro got out of the chair he was sitting in and moved around the table towards Sy, his expression one of worry. "Hey... hey, I'm sure he's not avoiding you Sy...!" He put his hands on her shoulders, trying to guide her back down to her seat before reaching for the closest one for himself. "I've not seen him for a few days either... he's probably really busy, in fact - I'm certain that's what it is."

He was trying to calm her down, his words quiet and soothing, perhaps unaturally so. He was usually good at convincing people of things, it made him a wonderful storyteller, but he wasn't sure how much of an impact that talent was having on Sy. He was just thankful Delta was out of the way for the moment. Though how long that would last was an entire other question.

"What... happened between you two anyway?"

Yes, yes, that was what it was. As she sat down she tried to collect herself and convince herself that he was busy. If Kiro was certain, that had to be what it was. After all, Kiro wouldn't like- he seemed much too honest for that, and now she had him worried. Clearing her throat, the color started to gradually fade from her cheeks until he asked his question. What had happened. Although she had the urge to flush and flee, she remembered that Aly had told her this wasn't something he liked.

She had to try to change that, at least.

"Well, w-we talked and... and he said he'd like to..." Clasping her hands in her lap, she looked down at them a moment. It just felt strange talking about it to him... he probably had never been in a relationship himself.

Kiro waited for a moment, before finishing Sy's statement off with a question. "...he'd like to date?" Even as he said it, he could feel himself grow a little uncertain of the territory. Relationships wasn't exactly something he knew a lot about - but he was willing to try.

"And if he said that," he said, his voice still calming, but with a hint of thoughtfulness, "why would he be avoiding you? It's not like he said he doesn't want to be around you, is it?"

>> This reasoning started to settle in her brain slowly, but it wasn't holding as firmly as it did with him. People said all sorts of things before they left. It was hard for her to really trust that he wouldn't run away someday... but it was awfully soon for him to run off. Mulling this over a moment she looked up at him.

"This must seem awfully silly to you." sweatdrop Delta squawked in agreement that it was silly, and for a moment she and her mother glared at one another. Okay, so they didn't agree on some things.

Kiro attempted a cautious smile as he saw Sy was calming down a little. "No, it doesn't seem silly at all. Everyone has things they're afraid of I think, and everyone has at least one silly one." He hesitated. "It just makes me sad to think other people are getting upset about things. And if they're easily talked through," he shrugged good-naturedly, "then so much the better."

After a moment the boy continued, the smile becoming more meaningful. "You've not been together long, have you? Maybe you should give him a chance to find something he doesn't like before assuming he's run off, never to be seen again?"

Fiddling with her hands in her lap, she felt somewhat ashamed that this sixteen-year-old was exhibiting more common sense than she was. It was a sort of humbling experience, all in all. But then again, he didn't have the fluttering, nervous feelings in his stomach she had, so ration and logic was easier to grasp on to.

"I know you're right, but..." No, now wasn't a time to go into her life history. Besides, it'd probably make any sane person somewhat pessimistic about relationships if they had never been in one before.

Smiling brightly she stood. "Would you like something to drink?"

He ignored the question, watching her stand and prompting her gently. "But...?"

He could feel himself getting embarassed. He wasn't supposed to snoop like this, it was the height of bad manners. But to his mind she obviously had something else she wanted to say. And if she wanted to say it, he was willing to listen. Granted, he didn't have any kind of experience with relationships and he gathered them to be rather tricky to navigate. However, if it was going to help Sy he was willing to lend an ear.

"But what?" She was getting better at avoiding topics, although her habit of blurting out what was on her mind got her in considerable trouble. And it wasn't exactly comforting she was the only person she knew who did it.

Shuffling to the kitchen he heard her hum a little as she fixed herself a drink and got some small pieces of meat for Delta. She was having problems with the generator, so it was hard for her to store meat yet, and Delta WAS an omnivore.

Emerging from the kitchen with a glass of lemonade, she busied herself serving her highness her small pieces of beef, somewhat amused at the idea of Delta eating one of her somewhat distant cousins.

Kiro nodded gently to himself as he watched her leave to get her drink. That was fine, she'd told him as much as she felt she needed to, and he was satisfied with that.

"Are you feeling a little better about it now?" he asked as she reappeared.

She nodded when her back was to him so that the brief blush wouldn't be visible to him, eager to move on to another topic, but she was too preoccupied to be able to think of something else. After she saw that Delta was eating fine on her own out of the bowl (and rather eager to be left alone to eat), she walked back to the table.

"You won't tell him, will you? You won't say anything to Aly about how... stupid I was today?" That's all she needed, was another embarassing incident recited to Aly. Maybe it was about time she took up a book on poise and tact. Yes, and then she and Delta could learn together.

Kiro shook his head gently. "No... I don't see how it could come up to be honest." He smiled. "He's unlikely to bring up his personal life with me, I think. And I wouldn't bring it up. Besides," he added, "our conversation is our own business."

He then glanced towards Delta, who seemed to be eating quite happily. "What kinds of things does she eat?" he asked absently, aware a change of topic might be in order.

"Well, just about anything, " she said quietly, aware that Delta wouldn't want to hear her say such a thing. It might imply, after all, that she was a garbage disposal or something. "She eats grain, fruit, vegetables, and a little meat. One of the few things she isn't too terribly picky about."

For once, Delta didn't voice an objection.. but this was only because she was too busy eating to bother chittering at her mother. Besides, she was starting to think that it was phasing Syrenrei less and less, so she'd have to use her squawks a little more sparingly when she remembered to.
