The child he had had with Lilac was still alive.
This thought should have affected him more, but the brutal truth was he had long since given the kid up for dead.
But now she was back, and she hated him. So he had let her die in his mind a second time.
It wasnt in his nature to be unkind, but he was afraid of that child and everything she stood for, so when she had fled he had not moved to stop her.
Now he regretted it.
Xavier sighed, paws laced together to make a pillow for his head. Under the tree he was laying he closed his eyes.
So many had died. They had lost Storm a few days ago as well.
He vaguely wondered how his kid and Jasper were doing, but the thought passed without him catching it and he lapsed into a dull stupor of uncaring.

 OpalIt had been a very long few days in the hospital after Nico's last attack.
The doctors had finally managed to stabilize most of the patients, so Opal was free to have a life again.
She decided to go to the Courtyard to relax a little.
The Infernape was delighted to see the Pokemon she had a crush on already there.
However, her delight faded when she observed the Umbreon's current mood.
"Xavier...? Are you okay?" She asked.
The last time she had been with Xavier that wasn't in the middle of a fight, she was comforting him as he sobbed for his apparently living... daughter.

Xavier glanced up with narrowed eyes until he realized that it was Opal and not some other Pokemon.
"Ah, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking." He lifted his head from his paws and finally smiled.
"..been busy at the hospital huh? Lucy's been stuck there for a while as well."
That last attack had been a blood bath.

OpalOpal sat down next to the Umbreon and sighed.
"Yeah... They gave me a new job. I'm in charge of all the anesthetics now," She said softly.
"And I evolved, but... Enough about me," She added.
"Are you sure you're okay? Last time I saw you, you weren't doing that well..."

The Umbreon blinked. Holy ******** hell she was an Infernape!
How hadnt he noticed? Oh right, the being in a retarded daze thing.
Right.
Xavier grimaced as she brought up that past incident and quickly attempted to change the subject.
"You look beautiful, you know."

OpalA bright red blush flashed across Opal's face.
"Th-Th-Thank you..." She stuttered softly, looking down at her feet.
"It really does mean a lot to me, coming from you..."
Her tail waved slowly back and forth behind her as she spoke.

The Umbreon did just that, acting as though he wasnt mortified he'd voiced his thoughts without thinking.
David Hasselhoff didnt have these problems.
"It's all good. I just tells it how I sees it." He stated with a fake New Yorker accent.
Ooh, Nice one. Crude comedy. Blah.

"Ummm... I-I know you've been through some bad stuff, but, I was wondering..."
She lowered her head even more so Xavier couldn't really see her face.
"H-Have you ever considered... Trying another relationship...?"
She traced random shapes nervously in the grass as she said this.

The Umbreon looked up with a start at the thought.
Lilac had been his life, his only love. When she died he felt his heart go with her. He felt he'd never have the same feeling again.
Up until this moment he had not even considered other relationships. Up until this moment...
"I'm not sure. I never thought about it before now. I loved Lilac, but...she...is gone. I dont know if I can, but..."
Xavier glanced up, golden eyes falling on the Infernape.
"I'm game for trying."

OpalOpal looked back up at Xavier, eyes wide and blush blazing.
"R-Really?!" She replied.
"B-Because I always liked you and not that long ago I kinda fell in love with you and I was so nervous cuz' you had a past lover and a kid and I don't wanna be the second pick because I love you so much and I just love spending time with you and yeah..."
She just kept going on and on and on...

Ramble, ramble, ramble. This girl was almost as bad as he was!
Guess it worked out then~
The size difference would annoy him to no end, he'd learn to cope and as if to spite himself the Umbreon stood and walked over before plopping right down on her lap.
"A guy could get use to this."
Huh, scratch his earlier whining about the size difference. Being a plushy sounded fun for a change.

OpalOpal blushed even deeper when Xavier sat in her lap.
She was a bit hesitant, but she eventually found herself wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
"I really do love you, Xavier..." She said softly.
The Infernape hoped that he would eventually love her as much as she loved him.

Xavier had been through so much, it made sense that he wouldn't be comfortable just jumping into a brand new relationship.
