Adwin grinned and headed over to kneel beside Ryu.
"Isn't she great?" he said proudly, showing her off. "She's not got her flying feathers yet, but I've got her on jesses anyways just to get her used to them. After all, I can't have her flying off once she does learn to fly."
The tiny bird was little more than a mass of gray and white feathers at the moment, but someday soon she would grow into a beautiful huntress. Her eyes were dark and alive, however, and she stared at Ryu with the intense glare of one who was without fear.

She reminded him of Donovan in a way, the glare did anyhow. Ryu made a note to never ever tell Donovan that though, he wouldn't like it to be compared to a chick even if it was a falcon.
"She's very cute at the moment," Ryu admitted, "Just holding her so she would get use to you or are you feeding her?"

"Right now I'm just holding her to get her used to me," Adwin replied, stroking the eyas's head fondly. "But she'll need feeding soon, I usually have to feed her every hour."
Of course, that did mean she was healthy and would grow quickly, and wasn't that what he wanted?
"Would you like to hold her?" he asked with a smile, still stroking the young chick's head.

"I would like that," Ryu replied holding his hands up carefully.
He couldn't help but think how small she was, but then again Seconds were very small themselves so he wasn't one to talk, though a baby bird was certainly smaller. Plushie size for a Surprise.

Adwin smiled and gently lowered his hands, opening them slightly so that the tiny bird could hop across to Ryu's hands ... except that she didn't seem to want to do that.
"Go on," Adwin murmured softly, nudging the bird forward. "It's all right."
The chick tripped over her overly large feet and stumbled into Ryu's hands, tiny wings flapping wildly as she tried to regain her balance.

Ryu slightly moved his hands so she wouldn't fall out which would just be bad.
"Quite a grab," Ryu murmured, "I'll have to ask you how it all turns out the next time we visit."

The eyas fumbled to her feet once more and ruffled her wings, settling into Ryu's hands. Then she stared up at him, her tiny chest rising and falling almost as fast as the eye could follow, her heart racing wildly after such a fright.
Adwin grinned and reached over to stroke the chick's head again. "Hopefully by your next visit she'll be grown and trained," he murmured. "It's always so long between your visits."
So really there should be no reason why she couldn't be ready.

"That is true," Ryu replied thoughtfully, "Well.. we'll try not to be too long next time."
Last time was far too long anyways and even he knew this.
The door to the house opened and Feng and Naida came in, still dripping wet and probably cold to the touch to top it all off not that neither of them would notice.

Adwin looked up as Feng and Naida came into the house, and grinned at them.
"About time," he teased them. Then, seriously, he added, "Next time, don't let Adonijah keep you out overnight ... everyone here was worried about the three of you. No one had any idea what had happened, or where you might be ..."

"I don't think we would have been able to get back," Feng shrugged, "I mean it was snowing hard and we were so deep into the forest as it was."
Not to mention she doubted that Adonijah would have left anyhow, he seemed too deep in his thoughts to really think about it.
"It's okay it was warm!" Naida replied, even though it was always at least a normal temperature for her.

Adwin frowned. "Adonijah knows his way, you should have gotten him to take you back ..."
"He should have known to come back," Aliya murmured. "But they're back now, and ssafe, so just drop it, Adwin. It's over and done with."
Adwin rolled his eyes.

"He had a lot on his mind," Feng replied holding Naida up a bit.
She was perfectly fine with it, no harm no foul in this case.
Naida on the hand was more interested in what she saw in Ryu's hands and squealed, "Birdie!" she pointed.
She would have bounced but Feng had her held too well.

"Don't excite her too much," Adwin warned as the chick began to flap her wings, alarmed. "She might bite ... and then poor Ryu is going to have sore fingers."
His own fingers were missing chunks of skin from before he had learned to keep calm with her.

"Oh... okay," Naida settled down, she didn't want to have her Uncle Ryu's hand to be bitten by the birdie.
She looked back at Adwin with wide eyes.
"What's her name?"

"I don't know yet," Adwin admitted. "I haven't thought of one. It's hard ... though I know I should name her soon so that I can train her to respond to her name."
He cupped his hands near Ryu's to take the bird back from him.
"And soon enough she'll be growing her flying feathers," he said proudly, "and then I can teach her to fly and retrieve and hunt ..."
