Elnara's breathing was still laboured, and though she was exhausted she wanted nothing more than to hold her children in her arms. Without really thinking about it, she put her arms out to Ulani to take her son from her.
"Garrick," she breathed, cradling him to her body. She giggled softly, tears still trickling down her cheeks, sweat still sticking her hair to her face.
He had a thick tuft of black hair, and his skin was as dark as Elnara's. His eyes were scrunched shut as he wailed, his tiny fingers closed in tight fists that just barely stuck out of the blanket he was wrapped in.

Alyse giggled and handed Hana to Ulani, who washed and re-wrapped her just as she had Garrick before handing the pale-skinned girl over to Lore.
"I've never seen such different-looking twins," she laughed softly. Hana's hair was a white so light that she almost looked bald - it was only upon a close inspection that a soft fuzz was visible on the top of her tiny, pale head.

Lore took little Hana into his arms and couldn't help but chuckle. Ulani was completely right, the two were as night and day, and he was sure that once they opened their eyes they would be green. Though it did answer his question in how inheritable his traits would be.
"At least then we won't get them mixed up."

Elnara laughed, wiping her eyes on her shoulders so that she could see more clearly.
"As if we could," she giggled. "Lore ... we have a son ... and a daughter ... it's so amazing ..."
Gone was the pain of only moments before. Gone was the memory of the hours of boredom, exhaustion, the months of discomfort and impatience. All of it was erased by the feeling of holding the child that she was holding, replaced with a happiness and peace that she had longed for for her entire life.

Now that Ulani's hands were free once more, she continued on with her work.
"By the Valar," she smiled, "the bleeding's stopped already ... Elnara you are a lucky one. Alyse," she turned to her granddaughter, "go fetch Serenity and Beren - no one else. Quickly now."
As Alyse scurried off to do as she was told, Ulani turned back to Elnara and began the long hard task of cleaning up.
"As soon as you're able," she told Elnara, "you should wash ... but if you can't do that yet when your parents get here, we'll get your father to carry you to another bed at least, and have you get changed, and then you just let me worry about cleaning up and washing everything good as new."

"How are you feeling?" Lore asked.
She must be exchausted was the first thoughts that came to his mind. After giving birth to two babies. He looked down at Hana once more, it looked like she had just stuffed her fist into her mouth.

"Like I could sleep for a month," Elnara murmured softly in reply, rocking Garrick gently in an effort to quiet his cries. Hana it seemed had decided on her own to stop crying - either that or Lore had a natural way with babies.
She smiled. "But they're going to need feeding ... probably soon ..."

"How about right away?" Ulani laughed. "Though you may need a hand getting them to nurse the first time ... it's instinct, but even so, it needs to be woken up."
She grinned at Lore. "What I'm wondering is, how is your hand doing?" Her eyes sparkled mischievously. "If you have no broken fingers, count yourself lucky ... I broke a few of Ulrich's, on my second delivery."
Of course, he hadn't been around for their first.

For the first time since the delivery Lore took a good look at this hands, not knowing what to expect. Against his pale skin was a mottle of bruises from being squeezed so hard.
"They're a very interesting colour at the moment, and it hurts to move them, I don't think... they're broken."

Elnara carefully shifted Garrick so that she was holding him with only one arm, then shifted herself to look at Lore's hand.
"I'm sorry," she murmured softly, her expression softening with remorse. "Here ..."
She gently brushed her fingers along Lore's, willing them to heal, and sure enough in only a matter of seconds his hands were back to normal. She took his fingers in her hand and brought them to her lips, kissing them softly.
In Lore's arms, Hana began to make sucking motions with her mouth, sucking on her own tongue - Garrick however continued to wail loudly in Elnara's arms.

Just then, Alyse returned with Beren and Serenity right behind her. "They were right outside," she grinned. "I guess Shael told them to come here a long time ago, and they were waiting to be allowed inside."
Serenity stepped forward, her eyes shining proudly. "They're beautiful," she smiled widely. "What have you decided to call them?"

"Thank you," Lore murmured just as Serenity and Beren had walked in.
He smiled up at the two and nodded at the question.
"The boy in Elnara's arms is Garrick, and this little girl here is Hana."

Elnara smiled warmly at her parents, though her smile was also weak. Garrick was still crying, so she tried to stop him by giving him her knuckle to suck on - a poor and very temporary substitute for nursing, but it might work for a while - since of course he didn't yet know the difference.
"Have you been waiting long?" she murmured softly.

Ulani held up one hand.
"I'll be worrying about how long they were waiting," she said firmly. "You just rest and focus on getting some of your energy back. Your children need nourishment - and then you need sleep. Beren," she turned to Elnara's father, "come carry her to the other room. Serenity, you can help me clean things up here, maybe they'll be able to sleep in here yet tonight - if we finish before daybreak."
A glance towards the window had shown her that night had long since fallen, and the rest of the world would be asleep.
Beren chuckled softly and nodded, moving around the side of the bed.
"Perhaps someone else should carry him for a moment," he smiled at Elnara. "You can have him back once you're safely in the other room."

Lore was worried if he held both he might drop them, which wouldn't be good besides their heads need to be supported.
"Serenity," Lore looked up at her, "Would you like to?"
Well that was kind of a stupid question, but he asked anyways.
