Her eyes followed the hand reaching for her shoulder very closely, staring at it for a moment before looking back at him with those... Insane eyes.

"Play?" She asked with a tilted head. "I've not yet begun to 'play'."

The substance on her hands began to drip off her fingertips and form a puddle at her feet. Slowly, the puddle began to take the shape of a contorted figure.

She smiled wickedly at Neko and very carefully reached a hand out to touch his chest. "You know." She began, her smile turning to one of more amusement. "It's been awhile since I've been this close to a man without inflicting some fatal wound on him. You should feel privileged."

She inched a little closer to Neko. "There's something astronomically different about you. And I just can't seem to place it. I feel... A connection. But at the same time, realize that we are both quite opposite." Her eyes stared up with him, full of question and intrigue. "I suppose that the familiarity isn't felt by the opposing party, though." She paused and looked down. "You know.. You never did ask what happened to Mother."

By this time, the puddle had turned into a misshapen cat-like creature with a full row of teeth hanging out from it's top jaw. It had no feet, and was about as tall as Riyo's knees. It's teeth dripped with the same substance it was formed from. Eyes as red as Riyo's.

She'd peered curiously at the cards within Mitsu's hands for a moment, looking at them strangely when the images began to appear. "Ooo, that's a neat trick..." She murmured, staring at the Devil card intently. "I wonder what it-" Before she could finish with means? the gypsy had stepped up behind them. She turned quickly, startled, thinking as Mitsu had that they might have been in trouble for looking through his things without permission. Though, the fox seemed not to mind, and she simply stepped away from Mitsu to be out of his way.

When Mitsu looked at her questioningly, Hitsu blinked. Was she supposed to agree or disagree? Obviously, she had no idea why the girl wasn't certain of her answer. However, Hitsu offered a nod. She smiled, "Maybe he could tell you what that card means, since you've already got that one?"

-----

Yuki only gave a short laugh in response, though more ridicule had been on the tip of his tongue. He sat upright once more, and scooted his chair backward to rise. Skye's company was suddenly irritating him. That, of course, was reasonable in his mind. He looked toward the door for a second, and then back to the bard. As the only person he knew in the tavern, even then only barely, he might as well ask. "If someone can tell you where we are, would you happen to know the direction to the next town?" He wasn't sure how much time he'd spent here, but it was certainly too long since he'd originally merely come in to ask directions. "I need to find out, so that I can meet up with the rest of my party."

A smile graced his muzzle, and he reached out for the cards in Mitsu's hand, taking them gently and replacing the second card on top of the deck. The Devil; That was the one he'd explain. Padded fingertips rested on the deck just briefly, enchanting them with their individual images should anyone else become curious whilst he spoke with Mitsu. He held the card out in front of him on his palm, so that the girl could still see it properly. "This card is called The Devil. As the name suggests, this card is typically not pleasant. It signifies controversy, disaster, violence or failure..." He tapped the card with his claw, "But you drew this one upside-down, did you not? That holds a different meaning. Release, enlightenment, handicaps that are overcome. In your case, my dear, this card speaks well of your future." A dark pointed ear swiveled toward the door, noting Hanse's exit. Good, he was unwanted here as it was. That man had made him a little uneasy, though he'd never admit that aloud.

The two headless corpses on the ground were riddled with small holes, and looked as if they had been set upon by a pack of rabid wolves. Two bleached skulls lay discarded to either side of them. The gaping holes where teeth once set were charred and burned.

"Damn." Kaine muttered. They had been travelling mages and had put up a bit of a fight, he had to use both of his skulls. He had taken the replacements from their mutilated bodies. The brains would serve an interesting purpose should he have to resort to it. The jawless heads were smeared with a preservative to stifle the smell of rotting perfectly. All of the work made him hungry... again. After temporarily quelling the endless hole that is his stomach, he decided to have a bit of fun in town.

He walked through the streets, peeking into windows. When he found what he was looking for, he slipped into the bar. Some of the patrons stopped what they were doing to give him the long hard stare. He ignored them, and made his way to what he had his eyes on. His footsteps never made a sound as he slithered up to the chair.

Kaine leaned over and ran his fingers over the contours. He inhaled deeply and let out a powerful gust through his pursed lips. Dust kicked up and swirled in the murky air. He lamented at this, the combination of dust and murk would play hell on his vocal cords. With a click and a groan the cover slid open, exposing the pearly white ivory keys. Kaine purred as he sat into the seat. He knew he had everyone's attention without even turning around, which made his perma-grin widen ever so slightly. "I'm such an attention whore." He thought to himself as his nimble fingers began to dance across the piano's keys, testing each one to see how badly it needed to be tuned. "Hmmm... not too bad." He said aloud.

The music he had chose to kick off his merry-making was a well-known tune "Hey, Dude" as sang by the travelling bard group the Dung-Beetles. At first, the crowd seemed to be kind of annoyed with the noise. This added to his suprise when he reached the chorus of 'na-na's' and most of the bar chimed in along with him. He came to the conclusion that this was going to be a fun night.

Mitsu allowed the fox to take the card from her hand and she listened intently as he explained its meaning. At first she was a little afraid of what she was hearing, it didn’t sound like a good card at all not that the picture didn’t give that impression in the first place. It wasn’t until he explained that the card had a different meaning when draw upside down did Mitsu’s fearful expression waver. “My future?” Well, maybe it wasn’t such a bad card after all. The meaning seemed to put her in a better mood.

Neko did not move as Riyo approach, though in this state he was unsure what her motive was. “Familiar?” That man had said something similar about them both. When she continued on about her mother Neko visibly frowned. "I don’t ask about things like that. I figured if you wanted to tell me you would when you were ready.”

As Neko spoke he failed to notice the growing puddle of energy on the floor until it had already taken shape. From this he took a step back eyeing it carefully. Something told him no good could come from this. “I hope that man I saw early has nothing to do with this.” Looking up at Riyo with stone cold blue eyes he searched her face for an answer. Was she being controlled or was this who she really was?

Glancing back and forth between the two, Blade just watched them warily. Things really weren't going too well from what he could see, and they weren't exactly in a good location to be having internal issues. For all he knew, someone might be wandering by any moment. Though something told him that whoever it was, they would have more trouble than they would...

"Hey... guys..." he started, not really sure how he was going to quell the situation.

Noticing the creature that formed from the strange substance, he kept an eye on it for now before stepping a little closer to the both of them and continuing on, "I don't think this is a good time to be doing this... "

Riyo stood back for a moment, fingers interlocking behind her. "Such a pleasant one you are. I can almost say I enjoy the company you offer..."

She glanced toward Blade for a moment, but quickly lost interest. Though, her little abomination didn't seem to. It hissed and drooled as the essence it was made of made its way toward him. Whether it was to be friendly or not was pretty damn obvious. Malicious intent all the way.

"Nothing and everything." She said with a grin. "I would not be alive, if it wasn't for him... But at the same time-" That was when she froze. Her eyes widened. One of her hands went to her chest, fingers wrapping around the fabric tightly.

"N-no... Nyuuu.." She coughed out. The disfigured cat immediately stopped and looked back at her. It lost form, returning to it's puddle state, then seemed to retract back to Riyo.

She took a gasp as all of it returned to her. Her breathing became heavy. Her eyes stared at the floor, welling up with red tears. "Can't... Take it... Nyuu..." Her arms viciously clung to herself, as if she was feeling cold or insecure. "Riyo.. Won't live for much longer...." Her eyes looked up at Neko, as if pleading for some release. "N-neko... Should kill Riyo..."

As Blade approach Neko held up his hand too hopefully make him stop. He didn’t want to intimidate Riyo and make her do something foolish, though he wasn’t exactly sure what brought this all on to begin with. When she suddenly collapsed in mid sentence Neko rushed to her side. “Riyo?” As she turned her pleading gaze toward him and told him to kill her Neko’s brow quirked. “How about you sleep on that. Besides, I don’t think Hitsu and Mitsu would forgive me.” He tried to coax her closer toward him to maybe comfort her but noise at the foot of the stairs caught his attention.

“Hartril? Are you having some trouble? I heard some odd noises.” It was the senior officer again, and from the sound of it he was ascending the stairs.

“s**t.” Neko hissed. They had no time for this. Something needed to be done fast. Stepping closer to Riyo, Neko made to lift her up by her arms and guide her toward Blade. “Take her I’ll distract them. Just get her somewhere safe.” The stern look in his eyes as he looked at Blade’s face promised punishment if he did otherwise. “Now go!”

The thief had stopped advancing as he noticed the strange creature moving towards him. He didn't know what it was capable of doing, but he figured it would be within his best interest to avoid physical contact with it. But just then, it melted away, and he saw Riyo seemingly shift back to some extent.

Confused as he also heard what she asked Neko to do, he looked towards him but froze as the voice of the senior officer spoke out to them.

Gritting his teeth slightly, he nodded to the cat demon, though he was a bit reluctant to go off and hide like this. He just hoped that Neko would be able to take care of things more easily with his shape shifting abilities. With a bit of a sigh, he carefully reached out to grab Riyo's arms so that he could guide her off somewhere. They were already too high up to go outside easily, so one of the rooms on this floor would have to do.

"Come on Riyo... "

"N-neko..." She looked like she was going to beg him again, but didn't. Her breathing seemed.. Rough, to say the least. The headaches were now at full capacity, and her body felt as if it was ripping itself apart.

She flinched as she was lifted up, biting her lip slightly. Oh, it hurt to even move... But she managed to stand on her own two feet. She frowned and looked back at Neko as panic seemed to ensue. She'd ruined the game. She'd ruined everything.

Watching to make sure the two were out of sight, Neko turned back toward the stairs where the officer would soon appear. He wasn’t sure he had enough energy to fully transform again so another plan was in order.

“Hartril?” Once at the top of the stairs the senior officer looked around seeing no one in sight. What had been going on to cause all that noise? “Is there someone else up here?”

Hearing movement from the shadows of the hall the officer turned but saw nothing. It was darker than usual up here, a little on the eerie side. “Hello?” He called out hopefully.

“Here.”

The officer spun around on his heels hearing the voice come from directly behind him to stare straight into shimmering blue eyes. For a moment shock over took his face, as he was certain this was the end but as Neko slowly began to take control his eyes began to dull and his features softened. His stance elapsed back into a neutral state as he stared at Neko as if awaiting a command.

“There is nothing up here to worry about. Understand?” As Neko spoke the officer nodded his head slowly to signify he understood. “Just go back downstairs and file your paperwork as if nothing as wrong.”

“Yes…my paperwork.” The officer gave a nod.

“And remember you heard nothing, it was only the wind.”

The officer gave another nod, “Of course, the wind.” And with that he turned and went back downstairs as if nothing had happened. After making sure he was gone Neko ducked into a nearby room and nearly collapsed as he fumbled his way through the dark. He had used up far too much energy at this point; maybe this hadn’t been such a good idea. He was sure if Hitsu found out he would be getting an ear full.

By the time the officer reached Neko, Blade had managed to duck into the nearest room with Riyo. Once inside, he closed the door and tried to listen as carefully as he could. There really wasn't any way for him to tell if trouble had gone and passed, unless Neko found them afterwards.

Though, fortunately, this wasn't a problem. Jumping back as the demon stumbled in, the thief blinked and peered out into the hall again to see if the officer was anywhere nearby. It was dark in the hallway, but no one was hiding out in the shadows from what he could tell.

Still, it concerned him a bit as to why Neko seemed to be so fatigued at this point.

"Are you ok man? You look even more exhausted now..."

“Don’t worry about it,” Neko huffed. “How’s Riyo?” He was more concerned with her well being at this point. And also finding a suitable escape route. Since he was unable to transform at the moment going downstairs in the mist of all the officers currently on duty would not be the best of ideas.

Somehow or another, Riyo had managed to sneak away into the corner of the room. Her head was leaning against the wall, her legs were folded up in front of her, and her eyes stared blankly at the floor. It was obvious that something was wrong. She looked like the life had been drained right out of her.

"You can't hide it for much longer, you know." The man commented, sitting directly in front of her and mimicing the way she was positioned. "You are what you are, and nothing can change it."

Riyo shook her head ever so slightly. She didn't believe it. Didn't want to believe it. She wasn't some kind of monster... That substance... It didn't come from her... These memories. They were fake.

"Deny what you want. In the end, your fears will be realized. The dreams will come true. But the best part is... You won't regret any of it." And with that said, he faded out again. Disappearing to God knows where.

Riyo's frown grew bigger as he left. She'd found what she was looking for in the world of the living. The emotions she hadn't been allowed to experience in her lonely childhood. And oh, how beautiful they were.

But would they be enough?

"She's... well.." pausing to look back, Blade saw the girl in the corner, looking as if she was trying to hide, "She seems pretty scared.. but what happened back there? For a little while she practically did a 180 in terms of her personality."

Shaking his head, he just placed a hand on Neko's shoulder to help keep him steady while looking out into the hallway. If his two partners were like this so early on in the game, it most likely wouldn't bode too well for how things will go when they get up onto the higher floors where it'll be even harder to make a quick escape.

"With all this going on I don't think it'd be a good idea to keep this up."
