Dari got a bit of a shiver at the whispering and laughed softly. "I bet you can! I wasn't raised cooking like Toby. Ooh, teenage pictures? I guess I'll just have to try harder." He began to wash the tomatoes and got himself a good knife.
"It's all muscle memory," he told himself. Except he barely had any!

Cody wrapped himself around Dari and held his wrist, the hand holding the knife. He guided Dari through cutting the tomato. "Look, you're winning," he said.

Dari knew enough at least to hold the tomato with his fingertips. This was warm and pleasant and oddly domestic. He felt at home.
"Only by default," he said, and his voice and deep and smooth. He was comfortable here.

"I'm letting you win," Cody smiled. "But you'll still get to see the pictures after dinner." He helped with the sauce and got it into the pan and onto the stove.

"Oh, good," Dari replied. Poor Cody was going to show off all of these pictures with the expectation that he would get to see Dari's, but Dari didn't have any. Some day he'd have to tell him. Just not today.
When the sauce was cooking, Dari washed his hands and turned back to Hannah.
"Is there anything else I can help with?"

"No, I think we're all set," Hannah smiled at Dari. "You're so polite, Dari," she added, and offered him a cookie. "Go sit at the table, I'll call you boys when dinner's done."
Cody led Dari into the living room. "She kicked us out of the kitchen," he muttered.

Dari smiled and nodded and avoided thanking her again for dinner, as he would do that later, and as for the moment he had to thank her for the cookie.
"Thanks," he said. He might as well mix it up a bit. He followed Cody out to the living room and took a bite of cookie before he sat down.
"Sure, but I got a cookie."

"She likes you better," Cody pretended to pout, and instead kissed Dari on the lips quickly. "I got something better than a cookie. Tastes better, too." He lowered his voice then, "Sorry about the lecture. Mom used to do that to me whenever I got into trouble. I knew it was coming. Toby told me your mom did the same?"

"Actually it probably tastes about the same right now," Dari teased and leaned into Cody. "Hm? Well, not to me! I was perfect." He winked to Cody and shrugged.
"I was trying to avoid it, but I'm glad it went like it did."

"I think you just got away with everything because you were the youngest," Cody declared, and then grinned. "But further proof it was I who corrupted you! You really never got a talking to?"
"I was surprised it went as well as it did. We should get beaten up more often. It makes people like us better."

Dari snorted.
"If it's all the same to you, I think Id like to avoid getting attacked again," he said, and then regressed. "I never said I never got a talking-to. I said it never happened during cooking. I didn't cook much." All of this was true. He wasn't lying, he was just omitting certain bits of information.

"I get to spend an entire week living with my boyfriend, though," Cody smiled. What a silver lining. Apart from circumstances, it'd been a good experience! He kissed Dari's cheek, offering one of the photo albums to him.
"Look, there's my car," he said cheerfully, pointing to a picture. "Its funny, you know? You're not in any of these, but I feel like we've known each other forever."

"That you do," Dari said and then grinned. "Aww, Love. I know. I feel the same way." He leaned over and stole a quick kiss. He still didn't want Hannah seeing them kissing.

Cody smiled. He turned the page and immediately covered the picture with his hand, blushing and hurriedly flipped the page. "Here," he said, offering it to Dari.

Dari watched Cody flip pages quickly, took the book, and immediately flipped back to the one Cody had skipped.
"Oh, no. You can't hide anything from me."
