Dari grinned and stole a quick kiss before Cody asked his question.
"I am not, ma'am," he called to Hannah then, "I'm not allergic to anything." How could he be?

"Come on then," Hannah invited. "You too Cody, and don't touch the cookies!"

Dari stood and took Cody's hand. They were to the photos where Cody was old enough to not hate them, and now it was time to bake. He dragged Cody to the kitchen and inhaled deeply.
"Those smell good. I can see why you stole them," Dari said.

"They're the best!" Cody exclaimed. Soon they were mixing and cracking eggs into the mix. Then dropping them onto the tray. Cody was enjoying himself, bopping Dari's nose with a bit of dough, then grinning. Hannah took out a camera and snapped a picture.
"Cody says you have an unbeatable memory, Dari. Show me?" She offered him the recipe.

Dari laughed and resisted the urge to retaliate by fluffing Cody's dark hair with flour or something equally as benign. He turned to Hannah with a grin still on his face.
"Oh? Oh, sure." He looked over the recipe once, read each word, and then handed it back to Hannah and covered his eyes with his hands.
"Shoot."

Just a glance was enough to memorize it? "How many table spoons vegetable oil does it say to use?"
Cody was grinning. "She's been meaning to quiz you for a while, I can tell," he teased.

"Two," Dari said, smiling. He shrugged at Cody's comment. "It's a fun party trick at the very least."

Hannah was impressed. She smiled brightly. "Unbeatable indeed," she said. "Now you have my family recipe Dari," she said. "You're family now."
Cody beamed at his mother and reached to snag a cooling cookie from the rack. Hannah caught his wrist. "These are for when you get home!"

Dari uncovered his eyes and, for the fun of it, rattled off the ingredients listed directly after the vegetable oil, and the temperature and time. When he was finished and Hannah spoke, he threw open his arms and hugged the woman. She darted out to catch Cody, though, so he leaped back a bit startled.
"Hah! Love, have some self-control."

Cody pouted, then grinned as Hannah wrapped her arms around Dari. So she approved! All that talk about Dari corrupting him and she had become fond of the man. Good!
"Do you boys want to stay for dinner?"

"Oh, we don't have plans," Dari said, and smiled at Cody. "I've heard you're a fantastic cook." He'd only gotten a little taste before, but he wasn't going to mention anything about that night.
"What do you think?" He was asking Cody.

"Yeah, we can stay for dinner," Cody agreed. He was so grateful for whatever had caused this change in his mother. She was acting like their last visit hadn't happened. Like she'd always liked Dari. Maybe it had been them being attacked that'd done it...
Hannah smiled. "I was thinking Italian," she said. "Spagetti?"

Dari laughed slightly.
"How do you check if your pasta's done? I'm just curious."

"She makes me eat it," Cody said, smirking. "If it's chewy, not done. Soft? Done."
"I haven't done that in years," Hannah said, shaking her head. I usually just test it with a fork. See how easily it cuts."

"Any time my brother makes pasta, he tests it by throwing it against the wall," Dari said with a snicker. He knew tasting was the best way, perhaps cutting it secondary, but it always made him laugh to watch someone new flinging spaghetti at a wall."
