"No they're CREEPY!" But Cody was grinning now. He kissed Dari's cheek. "I don't like how they look like little dinosaurs."
"Really? We'll just go to the butterfly house, then."

Dari threw his arms up and out like wings and did his best impression of a bat's squeal. He dissolved into laughter then and kissed Cody's temple.
"That sounds good. I'm sure she'll love it."

"Jerk!" Cody playfully punched Dari in the shoulder and laughed. "I thought she might. I bet she's never gone either. She didn't know what a Tardis was until I made her watch an episode of Doctor Who!"

Dari laughed. Doctor Who was a bit... out there, especially for someone as earthy as Maia. How good of her to agree to it, though!

"I don't think she did," Cody admitted. "It was a tame episode, though..." He smiled. "I think she was confused about the bigger on the inside."

"She's very down-to-earth," Dari said, and then finished off his sandwich, "Sensitive too, though. Toby loves her, that's all that matters. I mean, I do too, of course." He smiled to Cody and stole a kiss, then spoke with a lowered voice.

"She's sweet," Cody agreed, smiling. "I'm sure she'd be thrilled to have butterflies land on her." He paused and returned the kiss. "Me too," he agreed quietly. "Mom adopted you," he added. "I think she approves, love."

"I'm glad she does. This is what I was hoping for," Dari said softly. Hearing Hannah move around, he didn't imagine she was hearing them. "I'd be thrilled, are you kidding?" His voice had returned to its usual strength. "If it's not manly to giggle when a butterfly lands on you, I don't know what masculinity is any more."

Dari wrinkled his nose cutely and leaned in to kiss Cody's nose.
"Are we still on for baking?"

Hannah looked up at that. "Yup!" she said happily. "You have to help with the next batch! I'm going to let you boys have this tray to take home."

"That's so sweet, thank you!" Dari said, and he felt like he'd thanked this woman 40 times in this visit alone. She was being so sweet! One day he had been the corrupter of her son, and today she was baking his family cookies.

Hannah smiled. She took the cookies out of the oven. "Don't take them until they cool!" she warned.

Dari shook his head. "The molten chocolate is too good to resist?"
Back when he couldn't feel pain he might have tried it himself, but he didn't look forward to finger burns. He hadn't changed back into his true form since the attack. He didn't want to risk all of his wounds spontaneously healing and not being able to be around Cody or anyone for a good long while.

"It is!" Cody grinned. "Like you." He smirked and took dari's hand. "What kind this time, mom?" he asked.
"Something different. Dari, you're not allergic to nuts are you? I have walnuts we can put in the chocolate chip cookies."
