"I know the recipe. We can make them." Cody smiled at Dari. "When we get home. We can tell dadmode to go shopping. Maia will make him go. Then we'll make the cookies. I get to make you rest, too. I don't think you rest enough..." He looked concerned a moment, and then studied Dari and smiled. "I'll make sure you do."

"I'll be able to rest at your side," Dari agreed. He ached and burned and stung, but Cody was here. No drugs would be able to offer him comfort. All he had was his lover.

Cody gave Dari another kiss. "You'll always be able to rest then," he said. "I'm always going to be right here." He smiled gently. "Look, the Sun's all the way up. I think it takes a long time for the Sun to rise because it has to eat breakfast and get dressed first..." He yawned.

Dari chuckled again. "Sleep, love. We'll get to go home later."
It was indeed well later when Hannah solidified their plans to go over and bake. Cody wasn't back to work yet, and Dari had only had to go in once for a very brief time. It was nice to have plans, but a little intimidating that they should involve Cody's parents in their own house. Dari knocked politely at the door, still a bit bruised but healing well.

It was Hannah that answered the door. She greeted them warmly, giving each of the boys a kiss on the cheek. The house seemed otherwise empty. And as if it had been empty for a few days, at least. When Cody asked where his father was, his mother's expression immediately soured, and she ignored the question. "Dari, look. I have some old photo albums I wanted to show you." She'd placed two on the table.
Cody groaned. "Moooooom."
"I'm sure Cody hasn't shared these. He always threatens to burn them when I bring them out, but he's just adorable!"

Dari immediately noticed that Cody's father was not here, and it seemed he hadn't been for a short while. He was curious but didn't ask, especially after the face Hannah had made when Cody did. Instead, he got excited.
"Ooh! Yes, please," Dari said with a chuckle. He looked to Cody and winked, then rushed for the books. "I bet you were the cutest baby." Cuter than him definitely.

"No, I wasn't," Cody denied. He followed Dari to the table and sat across from him. He put his head in his hands. "My hair stuck straight up for the first two years of my life," he groaned.

"How is that not cute?" Dari asked, picking up the album at the top of the pile and opening to the first page. He loved the chance to get this look into Cody's young life, and to bond with his mother as well.

"It was hard to work with," Hannah admitted, looking over dari's shoulder. "There he is at a few dats old! Oodles of hair." She smiled. "Couldn't help but spoil him."
Cody looked at the page in question and made a face. "Mom, I thought we were going to bake?"
"Later. Dari ought to know more about the family."
Which probably meant more black mail. What had he done to deserve this?

"Awwh... Love, you were so cute!" Dari said, and he meant it. He reached out to play-punch Cody's shoulder. "Come on, this is fun for me! I'd never get to see these of your own volition!"

"I want to see yours, then," Cody said. He'd have to allow this, if Dari was honestly enjoying it. "Mom used to bring these to family reunions it was awful."
Hannah turned the page. "And here he is at one and a half. We paid for this one." The background was a castle with a curious dragon peering from behind it. Cody had exaggerated about his hair sticking straight up. It was a thick mane of waves on top.

"Alright, fine," Dari said, but knew he couldn't. His own 'baby pictures' were pretty telling, and though he thought for a moment that he might borrow Toby's, he quickly recognized that a photo from the 40s was not going to pass as a modern photograph. "Family reunions? Ouch." Dari laughed and continued.
"Your hair looks adorable!" he said then, taking a look at the professional photo, "and look at your little teeth!" He didn't take his eyes from the album, but he addressed Hannah then. "How was he, as a baby?"

Dari got a kiss on the cheek for that. "Yeah. And you'll be going to the next one," he teased. "They're always in the late summer, or early fall. Just be prepared for hugs from people you don't know."
Hannah shook her head at Cody's words, then turned her attention to Dari. "Wonderful," she said. "He was always happy! Got into everything. I knew if he was quiet for long he'd probably found something to get into. He wouldn't wake up to eat, though, when he was still new. I had to go in and wake him up."

Dari smiled at the sentiment. He didn't think it was particularly true, of course. If Cody's parents disapproved of homosexuality then certainly the rest of his family did too. Still, it was nice to imagine.
"Somehow I'm not surprised," Dari said with a chuckle, "That sounds a lot like him now. No wakies until coffee, Cody."

"You still have trouble waking up?" Hannah asked, turning the page. She looked up at Cody, frowning slightly. "He sleeps through anything, Dari. If you want to wrap presents or let off a bomb, do it while he's sleeping." On this page there were several pictures: in one, there was a toddler waving at the camera; in another, he was trying to figure out why water wasn't coming out of the sprinkler while his dad kinked it in the packground; playing on a tricycle. "He cried the next shot," Hannah pointed to the picture with the sprinkler. "He didn't like the surprise."
"I'm not that bad," Cody protested. "I wake up on camping trips!"
