[[Prisoner : Tower of Prisoner]]

The young man at the table jumped at the sudden presence of their voices. He whipped his head up and around to look in their direction, but as they'd notice, he saw nothing. Instead, a blindfolded boy looked in their general direction as terror filled his expression.

"I'm sorry," he screamed, stumbling from his chair, falling over, the chains clattering and snapping against one another with a metallic ring. He scrambled away from the voices to the farthest point of the ring before the chain went taught with a snap, causing the boy to lurch over, exposing an equally ragged neck torn up by an untold amount of time struggling to get free of his collar, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please, I didn't do anything, I promise. I didn't read anything, they're just as you left them. I'm sorry. Just don't punish me... I didn't do anything wrong."

As he pleaded, the boy had already soaked the edges of the blindfold with tears. His arms and legs trembled as he pulled them in and futilely pushed out his legs, the soles of his feet simply sliding over the smooth wood getting him no farther away.

{James : Louis’ Heart : Tower of Traitor}

As James’ thoughts raced through his head he heard the loud thumping of bass pounded in his ears, like the boom of someone listening to their music too loudly but ten times worse. Without even thinking about it, without even being cognizant of it happening his hexagun had been raised and he swiveled. His gun now aimed directly at Dawn’s head.

“James. Put the gun down… NOW.”

Dani calling out to the corsair caused him to come to his senses and realize just where his gun was aiming, trigger a hair’s width away from firing at Dawn. He forced the gun back down to his side and carefully eased off of the trigger to return to the guard. He looked down at it bewildered, trying to rationalize what just happened. He hadn’t been thinking about Dawn, not at all. He had been thinking about Nick. He looked at Dawn bewildered. Had she or someone else been thinking about sacrificing her?

”Be careful about what you think guys, something about this just manipulated me to aim at Dawn. I did not do that consciously,” He stated attempting to reassure them, not entirely sure if they believed him or not.

The loud heart beat sound in his head was making it hard to focus on the conversations going on around him. With his heightened senses the sensation was almost deafening. He didn’t even recall what Dawn had just said and could barely make sense of Dani’s words aside from her calling out to him. He rubbed at his temples with his left hand, not sure how to respond.

[Kyla: Louis Heart: In the Void of Nightmares]

cue Shiki OST - Epitaph

In the end, it again didn’t matter. Nothing she knew or could know mattered, as usual.
No knowledge of what could ‘possibly’ lay beyond the door mattered as they fell forwards and disappeared into an all-consuming darkness. And while unbeknownst to her, others eventually found some kind of destination- Kyla found herself… nowhere
.
Hovering over a sightless sea, there was nothing above her head, and nothing but darkness below. There was nothing but darkness everywhere- and she floated, like adrift, and saw nothing beyond her grasp no matter how she reached to feel for something.

She waited and waited for something to happen, something to illuminate, to begin to start- but...nothing did. Kyla began to flail helplessly in the void and found no current nor stroke to pull her forward. She was alone in the dark.
Alone. In the DARK.

Well, that answered one question. It was ‘their’ fears it would utilize, not his- entirely..

Oddly enough it didn’t go for the kinds of fears that instilled sorrow or despair this time. No, she was ready to see her family murdered again, or her companions turn on her- …
Instead as if understanding this, it went for something more simple, but certainly effective-

The DARK.

The realization hit her hard. Once upon a time perhaps the phobia would be simpler and small enough of a thing she could rationalize and try to steel herself for it but now- here, in this world, the dark was a tangible horrible thing. In this world, this universe of Kingdom Hearts the darkness was a place where in lurked the eldritch fears she only dreamt could exist.
In the dark this nameless horrible entity, this forgotten being, a god of darkness and chaos was somewhere out there- and as long as she was bathed in this void
IT COULD SEE HER.

Panic, it exploded in her chest and made the artist tremble under it’s weight. Hugging herself and looking around desperately, feet flailing to move, to find purchase on anything- Kyla cried out into the voice before swallowing hard, determined to shut herself up!

‘ OH no! Oh God- help, it’s dark! I can’t see anything, I don’t like this! It’s too dark! Where am I?!’

It didn’t matter if this was some dream or illusion, this darkness was real in the sense that it was there! It didn’t matter how it was fabricated, it encompassed her, and as long as it was here all around her- as long as she dangled there like some bait on a string- she was completely at the mercy of what could possibly be dwelling in its depths.
She wanted to scream, but all that could be mustered from her was a strangled moaning whimper, a sobbing that chocked in her throat on its miserable way out. She bit her lips to stop from making too much noise but damnit- she was terrified!

She needed LIGHT!

~Kyla! Calm down! It’s ok, it’s ok!~

And with Carbuncles voice came Joseph’s as well.

~…you’re not alone, shhhh, I’m right here.~

There in the gloom, a brilliant red light appeared from over her shoulder. The small creature manifested as always in its more docile benign form, using as minimal mana as possible for the simple purpose of physically ‘being’ there beyond the confines of her body. Cabuncle’s forehead gemstone shone forward with its ruby light- brandishing it like a single small candle against the endless void spread out all around them.

“It’s ok.” The summon repeated, snuggling its tiny head just below her chin and neck like a soft cat. “I’m here. Just breathe”

Still afraid, but not at such mind shattering levels, Kyla pulled her body in on itself. Her legs tucked tight into her own body, and her hands- needing to touch her magical companion, felt along the floppy ears, and the rock hard surface of the shining jewel. Yes. Carbuncle was there.
As long as just one person was there- she could handle it.
‘…I…I’m..w..’ Kyla finally began to try and answer to Joseph.
Even her thoughts were having trouble finding comprehension, they were fragmented, panicks and trying to find resolve again all at the same time. Gone was the monotone, she was afraid, so very very afraid. The struggle to sound calm, only to break and sob and choke on her fear went back and forth pitifully. She tried to send it visually, but all they’d see for a moment was a black void, with maybe the side of carbuncles head and the bright red jewel glowing somewhere in the corner of their vision. Not much to send.
‘..dark…dark…..everywhere….’ Dear God help her, if it could see her. Was it coming? Could it enter this plane? All this talk of things bigger and uglier then Louis coming to reap what he sewn. Things that made Ajora tremble… this reminded her to much of that place before. And now, if it suddenly were to…. Appear, Kyla would lose it, she’d have a heart attack, surely.

“Shhhh, calm yourself. We’re not alone. Remember. Louis hey-! Say something. I sure could use another insight here.”
The furry creature muttered towards the shard they carried. He managed to make himself known in subtle ways,- had he recovered well enough yet? Or did this place block him out just as it had before? He’d bene there other times when Kyla was particularly upset, now could be a great time for some support. If he recovered that is…
‘…it’s dark. I don’t…kn..ow..where we are…it’s nothing like a boiling river. Centaurs. I remember, that’s what they should have been. That’s where the name Chiron comes from. A minotaur…. ‘ she kept trying to recite things from the divine comedy, digging up knowledge as a feeble attempt to ground herself.
Even so as she communicated mentally in this splintering line of concentration Kyla was verbally sobbing, crying. She hated the dark. Every second she stared into it she kept imagining that horrible face to come into the dim light of Carbuncle ruby glow and swallow her whole!!!!
“…aaaa…aaah….aaaagughh…” she swallowed another scream at the very thought of it.

~ She's REALLy freaking out you guys. Sorry. Illusion or not, dark is still dark. and here the dark is bad isn't it?~ ]Carbuncle repsonded using that same line of cummunication. Adding to the trend of summons being more liberal in their outspoken moments. Still. Least Carbuncle wans't possessing anyone.
They could hear the summon try and calm Kyla down again, trying to get her to think of using her magic and try geting out fo there somehow, -
"Make some light of your own hm? So what if there's a void, then construct something. You're good at that!"

[Joseph: Louis' Heart: Nightmare Tower]

So, Amy was actually in front of him(which begged the question what happened there with the voice and whatnot). She seemed okayish. John also seemed...well, confused, but okay. Frankly they were all pretty confused. But Mathy was freaking out, and Kyla seemed terrified.

Well, wasn't this a fine pickle?

First, he waved back at Amy. It was only polite. Then, he thought to Mathy along the chamrs.

Okay, remember Mathy, deep breaths. He's ******** with our heads, but we can move beyond that. Remember, you have magic. Powerful magic, and a brain. I don't know where you are, but I know you can get out, and you can find me and Amy. This? This won't stop you.

Then, it was a direct link to Kyla. Which, to be fair, was still a little rough. Was he still upset with her from earlier? How she didn't seem to value her own life? Well, yeah. But that didn't mean he didn't care.

Kyla. It's okay. I'm here...well, kind of. Take deep, calming breaths. You aren't alone. You have carbuncle, and I'm right here with the charms. We all are. But I need you to breathe, to try and calm down. I need you to remember something, okay? You have magic. Immense, untapped potential. Nightmare can't stifle that, don't let him make you think he can. We've fought the dark before, and won. This? This is just a shadow on a sunny day. Shine through the dark. Find us, your allies.

The male opened up his charms to everyone, Amy and John included, for his final bit.

We can all meet up. We can all crush this nightmare and make it a dream. Just don't give up hope, don't give in to fear. We just have to find each other. And then everything will be okay.

Well, he hoped, at least. Even as he focused more, he was a bit stumped as to how he was actually going to find everyone. They were in a random, circular room. He...had an option for getting out, but he probably needed a direction, first, to start off with.

"So, Amy...First things first, I agree. He's a massive d**k. Second, I could probably blow out a wall or something. Well, as much as I've been focusing my strength, maybe the whole tower which might not be safe but...I kind of lack any way to find people besides barreling through walls. Any idea where to start? Or maybe a better idea than that?

He crossed his arms, letting out a sigh. "Man, this place sucks."

[[Esteem : Tower of Nightmare]]

Just as Joe suggested, Matthew had already been attempting to do. His efforts letting him slip through his coffin and out into the world beyond... which was... perhaps not expected. What once was pitch black, became pure white.

Materializing out of nothing, Matthew phased out of his dream, right into John's.

------------------

Meanwhile...

Kyla, in a state of panic and confusion was greeted by a small... tiny glimmer of light. Esteem, her shard of Louis appeared beside her. That glimmer grew and eventually took the form of the bestial boy she'd come to trust. He stood, as though on solid ground next to Carbuncle, contrast and clear against the pitch backdrop. But there... in the background... something huge slithered and pulsated. She could feel the darkness closing in on her, eldritch jaws opening wide to swallow her up.

"Joseph is right. Nothing is in this darkness capable of hurting you. You have magic. You have light inside you. This darkness... it's just a nightmare, none of it is real and you have to believe that... and if you can't do that, believe in your friends that they will help you through this."

{Leon : Louis’ Heart : Tower of Victim}

Leon remained silent but focused as they made their way towards the tower of victim. He heard the conversation between Kyle and Jenny. However, at the moment it really didn’t seem of huge concern to him so he ignored it for the most part. Just like the others he had no idea what to expect. However, the room that they entered was the last thing he had expected. They entered into a hallway that didn’t resemble the architecture of the castle at all. It didn’t make sense, but there real point dwelling on it either. They continued along the hallway until they came to a slightly ajar door. Being the only way to go they opened the door and were pulled into the room. The room within was small and minimally furnished. Sitting on the bed was a boy, whom the gunblader assumed was the shard they were trying to deal with.

The boy though, who seemed to be in fairly rough shape, hardly seemed to be any kind of threat though. To the contrary he seemed quite considerate of them as they arrived. Leon chose to remain standing, finding a spot on the wall to lean against as he looked around the room, what little there was to look at. The static riddled TV, the small chair, the window, and the bed on which the boy sat.

”So you’re supposed to be Victim?” He asked, figuring he would go ahead and confirm that up front. The boy certainly looked the part, broken, beat and scarred.

[[Victim : Tower of Victim]]

"Mmm," the boy replied, nodding slowly. Perhaps it was coincidence, but as Leon watched the boy nod, he caught a different angle of light on his face revealing a scar nearly identical to his own, "You... can call me that if you like. I'm called a lot of things though... none of them nice."

{Auron : Louis’ Heart : Prisoner’s Purgatory}

Auron remained silent as he followed behind Joe and Sora down the wooden hallway. All around them were bookshelves, clearly a library of some kind. He paused as Joe stopped to examine one of the books which was blank and it was clear that they were all quite likely to be. They continued to move forward toward the figure who was in the middle of an open circle area deprived of shelves. The unsent samurai had to be careful how he moved due to the size of his weapon as they navigated through the bookshelves. The large weapon had to be held on his shoulder with the point going straight up instead of over his left shoulder as he normally carried it. He listened to the others talk, discussing how this was intended to be a prison. They stopped just before the outside ring, clearly the boy’s limits in terms of how far he could move and watched as the boy freaked out, recoiling away from them as Joe spoke to him. The boy was bound at the wrists, ankles, and by the neck to a chain bolted securely to the floor and he was blindfolded so he could not see.

”Calm down, we’re not here to punish you,” Auron stated , his rough voice intense, though by no means trying to be alarming. He hoped that if the boy had heard his captor’s voice before he might realize that it wasn’t him. However, the only way to find out was to try.

Joe : Louis' Heart : Tower of Prisoner

Joe raised an eyebrow at the shards response. The blindfold was one thing, but him thinking that they were his jailers? This was either genuinely pitiable or one hell of a ruse.

"Big red is right."
Joe added "We're not your jailors, we're...visitors."

[Dawn : Louis' Heart : Tower of the Traitor]

Dawn blinked when Dani yelled at them. She looked over at James right before he took his gun away from her head. She took a small step away from James, confused. She glanced at Dani then back at James. Before she looked away and at the ground.

"I never said I was going to sacrifice any of you..." she paused a moment as she tried to figure out how she should word what she was thinking, "So you are saying that we should hold ourselves above many? We are all important here. We are trying to save people not cause a genocide. I dunno about you, but I couldn't live with myself if I let these people die. At the same time, I couldn't let anyone else die here. Not even Nick."

'How, how can he think we can make such a decision? I can't. I won't. I won't let anyone I care about die here.'

Dawn sighed softly as she looked over at James' hexagun followed by the other weapons, "Though, I think it would be safer for all of us if we put our weapons away. After all this is the Traitor... He has already tried to use one of us. Won't stop him from doing it again."

[Nicholas <> Louis' Heart <> Tower of the Traitor]

"...This is ridiculous."

Nicholas looked around the room at the other five, and let out a sigh of annoyance. "Dancer, I appreciate the whole 'sparing me' nonsense, but you do remember what Nemesis said about the towers and how many people it can hold? We are fighting shards of a man hosting the Esper known for corruption. We are getting played like that piano out between the towers." He pulled the goggles off of his face, pinching the bridge of his nose.

His eyes had gotten more corrupted since earlier, now fractures of black pulsing energy seemed to taint the skin as if it were cracked glass. The irises of his eyes had a deep glow of green, and the whites of his eyes were entirely non-existent. "Here's my guess on all this: Traitor's game is for us to betray one another for the 'greater good.' Heh, greater good." Nicholas chuckled, then continued. "By sacrificing one, we're saving thousands and being heroes. Hooray!"

Waving his hand around in a sarcastic salute of cheer, the swordsman began to pace around the room. "But in return, you all become monsters for betraying your friend. Obvious answer aside of just, 'Why not kill Nicholas since he's an evil p***k?', you don't really want to do that. The alternate we could choose to sacrifice the innocents to allow ourselves to live. Which opens two paths. Option A: we kill the innocents, turns out they're actually here, go on to fight Traitor, and you all live with this horrible act you did for the rest of your lives. Option B: innocents once again die, but surprise! They're not actually a thing. We beat Traitor's illusion, find Traitor, kick his teeth in so hard he digests them, and call today a success."

He stopped mid-step in his pacing, and seemed to rock back and forth slightly, as if he were an old man in a rocking chair lost in thought. "Or there's a third option. One of us chooses to be a martyr. Instead of having the guilt of a murdering someone on your pretty little consciences, one of our little group here can choose to eliminate themselves in order to save everyone else. Of course, there's the possibility that instead of breaking the puzzle, you just kill yourself and it doesn't affect Traitor's choice in any way."

Nicholas continued his pacing around in thought, then his whole body shook as if an idea had just run through him. "Oh, could he have meant...?" He laughed for a long minute, then went utterly silent. "Oh, that would be rather interesting...perhaps that's what he wants us to choose? Funny, funny, funny..." He finally muttered after a long moment, chuckling under his breath.

OOC Note: Nicholas would continue talking if someone tried to interrupt him. He's what we call a little bit crazy. 8D

{Bobbi .:. Louis's Heart .:. Tower of Traitor}

"I trust you about as far as I can spit," Bobbi snapped at Nemesis as her group headed towards their tower. She felt a bit of relief as Riku and the others took up the positions she'd... ordered. Which still felt weird. She should have been suggesting; they were a team, not a dictatorship. Especially since it was Riku following directions. He had the most experience in the whole saving-the-worlds thing, it really should have been him in charge. But he seemed fine with letting her take over this small group, and deferring to Joe in the larger one.

She stayed silent on the trek up to the tower, keeping an eye out for trouble, occasionally glancing at a tombstone and trying to make sense of it because of her insatiable compulsion to read. Naturally, she also read the inscription above the door to the tower, and tsk'd.

"Melodramatic, much?" she muttered under her breath. She kept her guard up as they continued inside, now prepping a Mirror Wall to protect her friends, while also making sure her previous spells were still in place on her arrow.

The swirling mist inside the tower made her faintly nauseous, but once it settled her stomach calmed. She cocked her head to one side, listening intently with her right ear as the left never had been able to differentiate speech from any other noise. Her lips pursed at the words being spoken. They were so like that strange voice she'd heard a week ago when she'd chosen Taulmaril--or been chosen by Taulmaril, she still wasn't one hundred percent sure what happened.

The power of the Archer. Unswerving loyalty. An instrument of fierce justice. Is this the power you seek?

This is why I was chosen.

She inhaled sharply through her nose--the closest she could come to a gasp as her jaw was clenched and her lips pursed--at the flash of light.

"Before you, you have 1,000 innocent lives dangled before death's door. You have the chance to save them, but only at the cost of sacrificing one of your own. Only 1 life in exchange for thousands. Choose your fate."

"No."

The one word was spoken sharply, not in anger or despair, but in defiance. Her ears were ringing, heart pounding harder than ever, her very stance and every fiber of her being screamed I will not stand for this. Her Mirror Wall was released without conscious thought, springing up around each of her friends--yes, even Nick--reaching to heart-height, perfect, flawless, as transparent as glass and as hard as steel. The sole exception was Dawn, whose Wall gave her full cover from head to toe, extra thick on the side facing Kuro.

"We will not be sacrificing ourselves today," she continued. She tried to gesture angrily, but her hands were still clenched on Taulmaril, though they shook with her fury. "Not for a thousand. Not when we can save millions by staying alive. All of us."

She tried so, so hard not to think except Nick, but all she could think of for a brief, terrifying moment was all the lives he had already taken. So far as Bobbi knew, Nick had never saved lives, only ended them. On top of that, he seemed to be quite far gone in madness anyway. Judging from the cracked appearance of his eyes and the way he rambled, there was likely very little chance to save him.

If any of us are going to be sacrificed, Nick is the--no. No. I'm not doing this. I'm not killing anyone in this sick, twisted game.

This isn't justice.

With a growl born entirely of the fury that had been building exponentially the last several hours, Bobbi dismissed Taulmaril, dismissed her Mirror Wall, and stepped forward, away from the group.

"Traitor!" she bellowed, lips pulled back in a feral snarl, hands clenched at her sides, every muscle tensed and shaking in her rage. "I'm not playing your stupid games! Come out here and face me, you ******** COWARD!"

{Red XIII, Yuffie .:. Louis's Heart .:. Tower of Victim}

Nanaki only gave the stones a passing glance, making sure no nasty creatures were hiding behind them ready to ambush, but otherwise paying them no mind. Yuffie did much the same, though mostly because she was bored and itching for something to do, and reading tombstones didn't tickle her fancy at all.

The hallway was boring enough, and Yuffie and Nanaki relaxed their guard just the tiniest fractions. Nothing could possibly ambush them in there, except from the one lone door. As the group approached, Nanaki kept himself close to the door, ready to pounce and rend anything that might attack through it...

But there was nothing. Just another dull room, sterile, and lifeless except for the boy sitting on the bed. His wounds were grievous, but he barely reacted, save to offer the group seats... and offering to give up his spot on the bed in their favor.

Indeed a victim, the lion-like creature thought, cocking his head to one side curiously.

"What do you want to be called?" Yuffie asked gently, approaching the bed and squatting down to be below the boy's eye-level. Her shuriken was still in her hand, but she kept it in his line of sight. She could easily use it if she needed to, but she thought having the weapon out where he could keep an eye on it would at least not scare him as much as trying to hide a weapon he had already seen.

{Zell, Demyx .:. Louis's Heart .:. Cornerstones of Death}

.:Hey, man, trust me:. Demyx responded to Riku via the charms, deliberately imitating Nemesis' tone from when he'd said the exact same words just a moment ago. .:I'm all about the survival. It's my favorite past-time!:.

.:We'll be alright,:. Zell added. He shrugged at Melissandre's rebuttal, but kept oddly silent in response to it. He was more concerned with watching as the kids each disappeared into their towers, looking for any sign that something was going to go wrong.

"You're weirdly curious for someone who seems to know so much about us Nobodies, lady," Demyx said, summoning his Sitar and tuning it. Not that it needed tuning, but it gave his hands something to do. "Not everybody knows we don't have emotions. But just 'cause I can't feel these things doesn't mean I don't remember 'em, you know? Besides, the Organization's most common goal was restoring our hearts. You know, be Somebodies again."

Much to Zell's surprise, Demyx actually thought about Mel's questions, idly strumming a lullaby once he'd finished tuning the Sitar. The Nobody's face was screwed up in a frown of concentration, and he stared after the group heading towards Nightmare. Specifically, he stared after Kyla.

"I guess the main reason I came along was 'cause these guys have the best chance of helping me get my heart back," he said, thoughtfully, as if the idea was just now occurring to him. "The Organization fell apart, and I... well, I died. Thanks to Sora. So I've kinda got a bone to pick with him. But ya know, he had good reason to do what he did, I guess. I ain't no fighter, really. It's not my thing. I do recon, gather intelligence, spy, that kinda thing. They don't need me for that, really. Not yet."

The Nobody went silent again, for long enough that Zell thought he was done, but once again he was surprised. Demyx stared right at him for a moment, very intently, but it was so fast that Zell couldn't be sure he'd actually seen the look before the Melodious Nocturne turned a very uncharacteristic smirk on the amazoness.

"Most of what I do is an act," he admitted. "Figured 'fake it 'til you make it' might have some merit. I act like I do because that's how I remember myself before I became a Nobody. Yeah, I could help 'em fight, I could probably even make myself indispensable. But that's not the 'me' I remember."

[ Sayrike & Sora : Louis' Heart : Prisoner's Purgatory ]

The other man's reaction to their approach was disheartening; a look of hurt confusion crossed Sora's face, and he tilted his head. Before he could react, the others spoke up.

Sayrike's brows furrowed somewhat as well, though as Auron and Joe attempted to console him, she bit her lip. Liar was dead, and they watched his magic fade at their presence; if this was entirely his doing, it should have faltered by now...

She thought back to the other three shards that were on their side. Justice. Innocence. Esteem. Then she thought of the others. Liar. Nemesis. Prisoner. Traitor. Nightmare. Victim. She looked around at all the empty books, listened to the static of the record player, smelled the staleness of the air. She replayed his words, over and over.

Hmm.

"Who did this to you?" Sora asked, almost reaching forward but deciding against it.

"Why is reading worth punishment?" Sayrike chimed in, not as close to the circle as the others but still close enough to be heard clearly.

[ Riku : Louis' Heart : Traitor's Test ]

Riku wasn't surprised in the least. But that didn't mean he was unaffected.

The words echoed through his head, and his thoughts followed like so many strings of web, weaving and intertwining.

This step is too obvious. The conscious question of betraying the people or betraying each other is just the icing on the question on betraying our own ideals as people of the Light. Perspective, as the riddle posed, perspective is key. Even on the off-chance that this was real, I'd only choose myself--

"Are you BOTH SERIOUS!"

He was at the front, so he didn't catch what the others were doing at first. However, Dani's sudden shout snapped him from his train of thought--

--and made him consciously aware of the keyblade pointed at his chest.

His eyes widened, if only momentarily, and barely a second later the blade was gone in a flash of light. If anyone were looking directly at him, they'd see the shock quickly shift to frustration... but even that soon melted away. His eyes closed. His head bowed. His breathing slowed.

There's the game.

His mind cleared. His heart calmed. This was not the first time.

Nicholas was rambling, his eyes tainted so much that Riku didn't need his lost sense of ethereal smell to realize it. Bobbi was shouting, raging against the puppeteer.

The Keyblade Master simply stepped over his Mirror Wall and placed a hand on her shoulder, as he tried to channel someone else.

"You are losing yourself," he said, his voice calm--almost monotone. He held no expression, those his eyes were seeking. "Worse. You are betraying yourself. Is this rage who you are?"

He looked over to Nicholas, and once again, he was seeking. "You should put the goggles back on. Remember who believes in you."

"And Dawn, you're wrong. Traitor is not using us," he said, closing his eyes with a deep breath once again before turning his gaze upward to the endless sky; they were always upward, weren't they?

No, this was not the first time he'd felt the slippery slope of darkness. The way it pulled at your strings in such a way that a bow became a knot. How it made you fight against shadows on a wall, building you up in ways you never thought possible.

"Our thoughts betray us," he mused. His blue eyes sought, and sought, and sought. "The darkest glimpses, the intruding thoughts we don't necessarily control... we are being made aware of that other perspective."

A web was nothing but hundreds of interconnecting strings.

"Isn't that right, Traitor?" he called out somewhat louder, opening his senses, perceiving rather than thinking. His mind remained numb, as he had been trained for so long to accomplish. "This was never about the choice. Only what it would cause. Your own game betrays your intent. You've made your point. Come on out."

[ Kyle ; Jenny : Louis' Heart : Victim's Vault ]

A hospital? Genuinely playing up that victim idea.

Kyle and Jenny walked along the sterile hallway alongside the others, slowly making their way toward the room that compelled them forward. He knew hospitals well enough to recognize this scene immediately; his mother was an emergency nurse, his aunt was an emergency nurse, his grandmother had been a nurse, his cousin and her daughter we nurses. Medicine was in his blood, if not his nature.

So when he finally set eyes on the young shard of Louis, he unconsciously, immediately gauged the boy's status, checking the wounds, watching his movements. But the pit of his stomach churned.

What kind of physician leaves wounds open?! Especially in a hospital!

Of course, he quickly remembered the situation he was in; it was all spectacle and illusion. At the very least, it wasn't genuinely physical.

Something about the boy's arms held his attention longer than the rest of his wounds. They were a grisly sight, to be sure, but he couldn't place why they intrigued him so much. He narrowed his eyes in analysis, trying to take in every detail, play through every scenario. Then an odd chill ran along the flesh of his arms--a chill that even Justice would have oddly felt--causing the small hairs to stand up straight, and instantly he recognized.

Now it was his chest that ached. He brought his arms up to cross in front of him, and he rubbed them slowly, trying to get rid of the pain as much as the chill.

"Should... I offer to heal him?" Jenny asked, cautiously looking between the other four people around her while they waited for him to respond to Yuffie. Part of her wanted to help the boy, but the other part wasn't sure--this was a shard of Louis, after all, and the others had not exactly proven kind at first.

She saw Kyle nod out of the corner of her gaze, though his voice played through the charms.

"Wait a bit. Let's gauge him for a little longer."

[ Matthew : Louis' Heart : Nightmare's... Nightmare? ]

The Phase Shift worked fantastically--moreso than intended. He'd only meant to stop feeling before he started shifting through layers, but the next thing he knew, he was popping into a giant, endless plane of white.

Oh, and John.

"Found John," Matthew spoke up over the charms; he'd missed most of what had happened due to his panic, but it seemed he hadn't been the only one. Still, his sudden shift in tone was likely comical--one moment panic, the next nonchalance. He stayed in Phase Shift just in case he was wrong. "At least, I think it's John. Hey, if you're John, do the water sprinkler dance."

[ Melisandre : Louis' Heart : Core of the Cornerstones ]

As she waited for Demyx's response, she watched Nemesis make his way back to the throne and begin to speak almost forlornly about the Earthlings' departure; though, once again, his prose was overtly eloquent. She paid attention, if only briefly, in case he dropped any more tidbits of information worth gleaming. Demyx spoke up shortly after the shard finished.

"Ah, you would fit well with the Order, then," she mused, closing her eyes and nodding somewhat, as if pleased with her simplistic deduction. "Spies, recon, that's all right up their alley."

Nemesis then spoke up again, this time specifically addressing the sorceress with his curiosity. She turned, raising a brow in his direction as well.

"Oh, I'm here to help stop this Louis fellow, but my original purpose was based on a misinterpretation," she responded, shrugging. "The Priory believed that all the events surrounding this place pointed to the great dragon, Jormag, or at least one of his champions. I sped along to gauge the situation, both to study and hopefully report back to my Vigil reinforcements. However, given what's actually going on, they wouldn't be interested in the least; so I'm sticking around mostly out of curiosity."

[[Tower of Traitor]]

"All this bloodshed, all this devastation... you've given up everything."

There was a small cracking noise as Nick made his case. A louder snap when Bobbi made her own. Then finally, Riku voiced his own perspective and the floor shook as a thunderous beat rose from beneath.

The point wasn't yours to grasp... but theirs.

The people on the opposite platform screamed as some slipped and clung to the edge when the entire disk shifted to one side... others reached out and grabbed onto them, trying to keep them from slipping into the abyss to be lost forever. Despite this, their heroic efforts could only save so many... the old, young, and unlucky hundreds plummeted into the depths screaming... only hearts returning from the void floating up before darkness devoured them once again. Many who remained on the platform called out for mercy, to be saved... pleading, begging, screaming, cursing the group for not making a choice to save their lives without hesitation. Seemingly half had vanished in the blink of an eye.

But there it was, "Why not kill Nicholas since he's an evil p***k?" There was the thoughts crossing each of their minds, stated so clearly for any to hear, If any of us are going to be sacrificed, Nick is the- it hung there, like screeching nails on a chalkboard. To take back a word- a thought... how precious an opportunity such as that would be, yet still it was there, It’s definitely Nick.

Ahh, the majority had spoken.

Shattering glass was heard as Bobbi's wall came down... yet something wasn't right. Perhaps it was clear they would sacrifice the thousand... perhaps not. Still, as her wall broke apart, it did so in a flurry of pieces flung this way and that. When all cleared, Nick stood with there sharp blades of ice protruding from his leg, arm, and abdomen.

"Was it worth it? Was all this worth resistance?"

There was a sigh of relief from the hundreds remaining, still, a bitter taste lingering on the tongues of many who resented their loss and spurned those who hesitated to save them.

"Judgment has been passed," there was a pause as the disembodied voice took count, "500 lives saved... 501 sacrificed."

As Nick collapsed to the floor and burst into shadow, while the others perceived him as dead, he himself, appeared on a platform orbiting the main, invisible to their view, but capable of observing their reactions. It would seem he never actually experienced the pain of being stabbed.

After a long pause... there was a snap another light turned on at the opposite side of the platform from the one holding the 500. another platform appeared, much smaller than the first and the platforms began orbiting the central one on which the heroes of light stood. This time on the new platform there stood one person, a girl with long brown hair cloaked in a white-mage's gown. She stared at them, eyes glazed over, "Before you stands an ally you have lost," a second snap, a 3rd platform appeared, this one revealing Nick where he stood, "And another, you yourselves put to the sword."

"To save one, you must sacrifice the other 2. Choose your fate."

"No. It wasn't."

[[Tower of Prisoner]]

As they attempted to console the panicking boy from a distance, he did seem to pause, slowly calming before looking in their general direction, limbs still trembling but voice cracking yet hopeful, "You're... not them?"

"You mean... you don't know?" Prisoner let his mouth fall agape, "You don't know them? The voices... the ones that come as whispers, shrieking in the back of your mind. They exist in all, in you and I, both. They forbid reading. They forbid music. They forbid the arts. All is forbidden... for all give what they hate. What they fear. The secrets hidden in pages of a book unopened. The message in the song. The subtle meaning behind a work of art."

The boy paused, stating the last line with a solid monotone, "To them, these are evil."
