Maia looked up, sighing. "I hate seeing this," She said. She stood and went to sit on Dari's other side. She'd have liked to tell Dari that the people he'd come across had been the rare few, but she couldn't. Humans tended to fear people who were different than they were. Even other humans. "I hope they're locked up."

"I hope so too," Dari said, "Not for me, but for him." He made no indication, but it was clear he was speaking about Cody. Their first attacker's face was beginning to take shape.
"They will be," Toby assured him. "Even if we have to get the FBI involved, they will be."

The sun was starting to shine in through the Windows, and Cody was becoming restless. He'd slept a good seven hours, but however much he tried to pretend, he wasn't asleep. He stretched and looked to Dari. "Hey Love," he said.
The nurse wandered in with a set of papers. "Here you are," she said, giving Dari a small smile. "He's got some cracked ribs. But nothing too serious. I printed these off for you."

Dari woke at Cody's words and smiled. Then the nurse arrived and he pushed his sleepy self up to take the proffered papers. Well she wasn't being snotty any more... wow, she was still here? He respected nurses. Really he did.
"Thank you," he said and turned to Cody. "That's not so bad. Not even broken. Those'll heal up easy." And painfully, but he wasn't going to tell Cody that.
"How long, do you think, before he can go back to work?"
In the couch by the window, Toby heard conversation. His eyes popped open to watch even as he held a sleeping Maia.

"Can't feel em, anyway," Cody muttered. He yawned and reached for Dari's "He should be able to go back next week," the nurse said, smiling at Dari.
"A week?" Cody protested.

"Alright, thank you," Dari said, "and I'm sorry for speaking to you in such a way earlier. I was a bit upset..." He did feel honestly remorseful there, but Toby and Maia's company had helped him come down from the high of anger and annoyance.

"It's alright," the nurse said. "You're entitled to be upset after what happened to you." She looked to Cody. "You're lucky it isn't more. You could've died. Both of you could've."
Cody sighed. "I don't want to miss work," he complained.

"I know," Dari said to the nurse, and then turned to Cody, giving him The Look. "I'm sure your students will understand. We could have died." Cody might have, if he hadn't fallen over him. He couldn't imagine losing such an amazing person.

"Will you spend the week with me?" Cody asked. He took his hand and gave it a squeeze. "I hate missing work, though." He'd already missed work due to the flu.
The nurse shook her head and smiled. "I'll be back tomorrow night," she said.

"Thank you!" Dari said to the nurse before turning back to Cody. He smiled.
"I can try. I might have to go in a few days, just to get some work done. I'll always come back here, though."

"Can't I go home?" Cody asked. "She said there's nothing wrong with me..." He shook his head and sighed. "I hate hospitals."

"I think so, yeah. Tomorrow, maybe? Or, uh..." He looked to the clock, "Later today." He smiled softly. "I think she just means you can't go back to work for a week. I bet Toby would let you stay with us..."
"Mmhm. If you want to," Toby said sleepily and then cuddled back in to Maia. He mumbled the second half. "Can make yourself at home."

"Today," Cody smiled slightly. He'd get to go home later today. He paused. "Really?" and laughed at Toby's response. "Go to sleep, Toby."
"Alright, I'll come stay."

"Immalightsleeper," Toby responded as his breathing began to even out.
Dari smiled. "I'm glad. It'll be nice to have you spend the night, and to not have to worry about you being alone."

"What about you? You're just as bad," Cody said, studying Dari. "You're hurt too. You could be the newest monster in a horror movie." He kissed Dari's hand. "I'll be your co-monster."
