LQ XanatosGray "Well, I am twenty-four. That's a good ten years older than a lot of you...but that doesn't matter." He realized he was being defensive, something he had caught himself doing all to often with other teachers, teachers that had more experience. "In any case, let's hear what you have. I'm sure I have all the instruments that we need, so line up and I'll check them out to you and you can start warming up a bit, so I can see where you are." "You are correct. Age doesn't matter much. My best teacher was someone a year older than myself. Skill is what counts." Moving with a grace so fluid it seemed he was made of water, Akkan untangled himself and rose from his seat. Walking easily over to the instruments, he selected a flute, blue a few trills on it then nodded. "This will do till mine gets here." Tobias blinked at the gracefull, almost over-confident child and handed him some sheet music and continued checking the instruments out.

Akkan thanked him quietly as he took his music. One again folding himself up into what was apaprently a comfortable position for him in his chair, he laid the music out, studying it carefully while waiting for everyone else to get their instruments.

Oresti reached under his desk to pull out a small-ish black case, undoing the two small silver clasps in the front. He stuck a reed in his mouth to moisten it as he began to assemble his clarinet. Bell, the two midsections, barrel, mouthpiece.. There we go. He took the reed and pressed it against the opening in the mouthpeice, slipping on the ligature to hold it in place. Reaching under his desk again, he produced a music folder, setting it aside on his stand in case he should need it later. He began playing a few notes-- Concert B-flat, F, G. Unsatisfied, he pulled out on the barrel just a bit to modify the tone, and repeated this process until he found the ideal tuning.

Saiki began warming up his voice as quietly as he could, embaraced to be the highest range. 'Am I unatural?' ((He means is he weird. As soon as this period's over, I'ma teach the next class (home ec.) with my other character,,, or as soon as Ceres gets my teacher posted up. He will be much more fun than Saiki. =D))

After handing out what instruments he needed Tobias stood and tapped his stand for attention, "Ok, lets get everyone arranged into the right sections and we'll do some warm up excorsizes together so we can get a feeling for eachother. Everyone stand up," he continued on, arranging the students into the right sections and what not.

Oresti stood, clarinet in one hand and stand in another. He glanced around; there didn't seem to be any other clarinets..? Then he would have to look for the flute section, he supposed, or some other woodwind.

Getting the brasses in order he went to the woodwinds and noticed Oresti looking puzzled and put his hand on his shoulder and said, "Oresti, isn't it? It seems our other clarinets aren't feeling well today...there should be three. In any case, we'll put you next to the oboes for now, ok?"

He did a few simple stretches to limber up. Of course, simple for him was bending forward so his nose was touching his knees and then bending backward till he was almost double followed by grabbing his foot and pulling backwards until it was amost touching his shoulder. One he felt loose and limber, he picked up his flute and set about tuning it again as he waited for more instructions.

Saiki was at a loss for what to do. "Umm... excuse me..." He made his way over to Tobias. "Sensei... should I play the piano, piccalo or sing...?" He blushed, feeling stupid.

Tobias looked at Saiki and thought for a moment, "The piccolo, I think. Do you have one already, or will you need one from me?"

He didn't mention that he had stayed up late last night tuning his piccalo to pefection so that he wouldn't make a fool of himself. He made his way over to where all the other wood wind players were.

Ceres_3LD Sasu looked unbelievably confused. He walked over to Tobias and waited until Saiki was finished, then silently got his attention. "I'm assuming I should play the piano for now?" He smiled meekly, his head tilted a bit. "Yes, we won't really have much need for a guitar, really. But, really, why does everyone default to the piano?" He muttered, shaking his head. He had a vendetta against the piano most of the time and liked very few pieces written for it. "Anyway, are we all settled down? After we do a few warm ups I'll need you to come and make appointments with me so I can see where you all are without the pressure of being watched by your peers. I assume most of you have had private lessons with very little experience in an actual orchestral situation, and I promise you it will be far different from anything you've ever done. But, I'll try and make it go as smoothly as possible. How many of you are familiar with conducting techniques?"

"Mm-hm." Conducting was easy enough to pick up on, anyways, so even if this particular teacher had a different technique than what he was used to, he figured he could adapt. Really, though, his situation was quite the opposite of what had been said. The schools he had been attending through his elementary and junior-high years had been public schools from which he had gotten quite a bit of experience playing in a band. On the other hand, he never expressed any interest in taking private lessons-- Not that his mother would have let him, anyways. A waste of money, she would have said, and so outside of school, he was self-taught on sheet music he purchased with what money he could earn.
