Well, thats what kroot & human merc shields are for, delaying a deep strike long enough to empty some heavy weapons into them, preferably crisis suits with fusion blasters or a well-stocked hammerhead with an ion cannon. In a 2300 point army, it should be easy enough to swap a railgun for an ion cannon and some Marine-cracking goodness. Also, mark your calendars fellow T'au commanders, Imperial Armor III - the Taros Campaign is set for release on the week of Aug. 15. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/QUATERMASTERS_STORE_IMPERIAL_ARMOUR_BOOKS_12.htmlNew crisis suits, and formal rules for a variety of ships, hammerhead variants and all the other FW supplements. Sadly its all we get until an eventual codex revision, but it looks good. Speaking of crazy FW variants, has anybody considered/tried fielding a Manta as a titan like one of the books suggested? Are there even rules for one?

Well if you're facing well stocked close combat deep striking squads, such as BloodLetters, you will be torn to shreds, AND of course, you can Deep Strike right into the long-ranged squads... most of the time anyways.

Are there even rules for one? Honestly, I'm more interested in the new codex we're supposed to be getting in early 2006. I hear we're getting a new ally race, and an suit that's a Stealth analog without stealth fields but has the option to take Fusion Blasters. I hope Tau get the Sharpshooters rule and the wargear drones are fixed.

Yahiko_Meogine Well if you're facing well stocked close combat deep striking squads, such as BloodLetters, you will be torn to shreds, AND of course, you can Deep Strike right into the long-ranged squads... most of the time anyways. Really, if someone gets a good deep strike and hits an important squad, theres nothing you can really do about it. As Tau, you just have to back away and get ready to obliterate the offending unit once they're done massacring whatever they hit. Or if the struck squad survives (ha ha), you can use the 2" rule and do a kroot pile-on. A full 20-kroot squad can make any offending deep striking squad roll waaaay more than they can afford to. And I definately can't wait for the 2006 revision...a sharpshooters rule would be nice, as well as new units & some minor corrections. But, a Tau-centric FW book is a decent appetizer, especially with the nice (but horribly expensive) new crisis suits and the hammerhead TL-fusion blaster turret.

What components are best suited for a Kroot mercenary force. I would like to know before I use or buy anymore Kroot, Kroot Warhounds.

The gun drines and unit versitlity needs to be expanded, moveable gunners with decent guns would help the most since its a wait until enemy is in range deal for tau. I would hope they give Tau sharpshooter rules with how the rail rifle is. It would be nice to have fire back response when theres a deep strike attack for retaliation. I've been wiped out pretty bad from deep strike units with no chance to get back. It would be nice if they made a sniper like unit for the tau 36-48 inch range, it would help against eldar units.
