Gaius' brows bounced up. "Well, I had the plans worked out already, but sure, if you have some suggestions... Let's see what you've got! Maybe it'll be better than what I have, eh?" He grinned, then looked at the notebook, likely where Richard had the plans.

"Oh hey, looks like people've been using the board we put together! Nice to see huh?" he broke into a grin again, proud of the work the two of them had put into that thing.

Richard glanced up into the tree, looking for cameras. He didn't see any but that didn't mean much, he'd only found one in his duplex and was pretty sure there were more. Still his sketching were pretty small and in pencil. It be tough for a camera to pick it up. He flipped open the notebook and motioned Gaius closer. "Just a couple hold overs from the garden design."

On the page was the garden design he had showed Gaius a month ago but the logs had some odd cuts in them. Gaius might notice that none of the logs were actually nailed into the structure.

Gaius shifted to his feet, teetering a bit as he did so, and moved to lean over Richard's shoulder, looking down at what the man had planned. It was the same garden structure... Gaius raised an eyebrow. "No nails? That can't be sturdy... I dunno how I could use that in the theater, exactly... maybe it'd be good for a later, private project, to build a garden?"

Richard gave a little smile and turned the page. In the middle was a very small diagram. All eight logs in a row, their odd holes lined up with dowel rods. If fitted it together the logs would make a raft. Richard has leaned over the notebook a bit, shielding it from any cameras with his body.

"Well without power tools, no nails make the entire thing much easier to build."

Gaius' other brow bounced up to meet the other, and his body tensed as he looked over the plans, clearly fascinated. Ingenius... Yes, if the dowel rods were thick enough to not break... The holes would have to be pretty tight to keep the logs from wobbling to much around the rod.

"Yeah... definitely easier..." he muttered, though it was clear his mind was on other aspects of the plans. He lifted his blue eyes to meet Richard's, clearly asking 'how?'

"The... ocean is pretty..." he said suddenly, a forced casualness to the statement, "But that reef out there makes it choppy, don't you think...?" How was he planning to get past it?

Richard actually had no idea. He had never intended to use the raft himself. That was for a younger man, perferably one who actually knew how to sail. "Oh its just ideas for me Gaius. Big ideas for younger men to refine and use. " He gave Gaius look with a bit of a sad smile. Then put the notebook in Gaius' lap. "I just want those ideas out there if there is ever a situation where they would be useful." Richard's tone was even. As if he was a grandfather telling a story about the good old days.

Gaius took the notebook with a look of surprise, holding it gingerly in his hands and looked at Richard. "A-Are you sure? I mean, don't you need it for writing?"

To the disguised message, Gaius' face fell a bit, frowning. Younger, and probably more human. It didn't occur to him that the chips might prove an obstacle.

"Maybe I can use the wood for beneath some of the benches... towards the back. And posts outside the perimeter of the seats?"

"Its all pressure treated wood, it should stand up to anything you throw at it." Richard nodded and almost clapped Gaius on the back but stopped to avoid crushing a wing. He shrugged, "I'm sure you'll figure it out. Who you building this threater for anyway and where you building it? Richard was quite curious who Gaius had gotten in trouble.

"Ah, well..." Gaius' smile turned sheepish and he glanced away. His voice dropped to a hushed whisper as he spoke, not wanting anyone, particularly labs, to overhear. "It's... for this guy named Billy. Back when I was... still human, he convinced me to smuggle vodka to him, and in exchange, he hid the glass bottles in the lake for me. You see, bottles, with... things," he stressed the word, "inside them... have a way of traveling far in the ocean..."

He sighed and straightened his neck up from the hunched position it had been holding. "But, I think he got caught and that's why that metal thing is around his neck... He even said so at the Halloween party, but it seems he's gotten better since then..."

"Billy? Metal thing..." Richard looked confused for a moment, then his eyes lit up as it hit him. "You mean William? The octopus!" Richard laughed. "Well I suppose he could put on a mean puppet show." The image of the sullen and angry octopus on stage was amusing as it was unlikely.

Gaius snickered at the suggestion of a puppet show. "I doubt that... I think he has other plans for the stage, though maybe in a talent show...?" He raised his eyebrow, amused by the thought. "Not sure, but I think he has someone writing a script for him. Anyways, my job is to just get the thing built, which I hope to get on later this week! Once it opens up, I'm sure word will get out!"

He glanced back down at the notebook, then at Richard. "...Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be put to good use someday. It's not hopeless."

Richard's face sobers some. "I've seen alot in my time Gaius. I've seen worse situations than this get better." He thought of his time in the congo and the horrors he heard about, and seen the aftermath off. His eyes grew somewhat haunted. Yes he had seen isolated pockets of the place improve while he had been there. But it was a rare event and who knew how well those people fared now. He shook himself and nodded encouragingly.

"Well let me know when you build the thing. I can lend a hand."

"Yeah..." Gaius said noncommitally. Life was going okay for him, sure... it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad... Somehow he'd grown used to his new body, strange as it was... but then, he was still a 'lucky' one, for all the good that was.

He shook his head, shooing away the thoughts that threatened to pull down his mood.

A smirk crossed his face as he looked back at Richard. "Ha! I don't think so... don't worry, you just leave this to the 'younger men,' we don't want you throwing out your back or something!" Getting up, he made a shooing gesture to Richard and teased, "Shouldn't you be taking a nap or drinking prune juice or something?" Dropping the goofy expression, he grew more serious, though his lips still curled in a smile. A hand extended, offered to Richard to shake. "Thanks. You take care, okay?"

"Damn Whippersnapper." He grinned as he pulled himself off the ground.

He took Gaius's offered hand with his own iron grip. "You too Gaius. I'll see you around."

Gaius grinned at the jab. "Don't worry, I'll stay off your lawn!"

With a wave, he turned to head to his duplex, not about to leave the notebook lying about outside while he napped. "See you!"
