Calacie My week was pretty good up until a major run-in with IT yesterday lol. How was yours? I'm kind of fond of chair avatars hehe. You look dynamic and dangerous as always heart Need to do some major overhaul on my sleep patterns. They were okay before since I went to bed late and woke up late, so I still got 7+ hours of sleep. Going a bit sideways now though and I've noticed my list of things to do has done nothing but increase since I'm not completing anything. xp Thank you! biggrin

Can I ask you two for your thoughts on the avatars in this contest for a different guild? You do a great job of helping me understand why certain avatars get as many votes as they do. The theme of the contest was "Be Irish" blaugh Quote: 1. _____2. _____3. 4. _____5. _____6. _____7. You've seen enough of my avatars that my submission might be pretty obvious. lol

Did number 4 win? Probably not, but it should have.
Ok, I really am not keen on 1, 6 and 7 so therefore one of those must have won I particularly do not like number 1, it's IRISH not HOBBITS.
Number 2 is lovely, but inclines me more towards nature than Irish, although I can see the Irish overtones and it probably would have stood out a lot more if it wasn't in between two cliches.
Number 3 is almost offensive lol. Let's just jam every Irish cliche there ever was in there shall we.
My favourite is number 4, it has a "walk on the moors" look to it. Runner up would be 5, which is a cultural nod but not a cliche.

Voting is still in progress though. wink Making it something of a rule not to vote for my own avatar, so I voted for #4. 3nodding

Sorry it took me a while to respond (was out with family most of the day). I will list all my favorites from greatest to least. I'm not Irish, but I can tell you why I chose this based on what I find to be aesthetically pleasing. #4 - This was a very well thought out avatar. Aside from just putting together an ensemble, the contestant also used ground items in conjunction with a background to tie the whole thing together; so the whole thing actually resembles a painting (imo). It's a very well thought out avatar that says, "I'm Irish" without screaming "F*** yeah! St. Patty's Day!!" #5 - Simple, yes--but it does resemble one of those Riverdance performers. It acknowledges the culture with the costume and color scheme, but for some reason the background throws it off a bit; a stage might've been more suitable, but I suppose not everyone would recognize it as Riverdance then. #3 - This totally would be perfect if the contestant were dressing up for a friends St. Patrick's Day barbecue, but represent the Irish culture it does not. As Calacie said, it's jam packed with Irish cliche's. #1, #7, & (especially) #6 - I'm with Calacie on that I'm not too keen on them. While Calacie pointed out the hobbit door, I have more issues with #6 using parrot and chinchilla in the mix. Chinchillas are native to South America and don't get me started on the parrot. Just how is that Irish? #2 - Disney fairies (Peter Pan, Neverland, Tinkerbell). Nuff said.

It's that you don't do cliches. And I wouldn't ever call your avatars simple. They're uncluttered and effective.

I intentionally used the backdrop for the way it clashes with the avatar - though I did attempt to find a stage background. I figured the background looks more fake, like a painted screen behind the dancer. Particularly since I wouldn't dance in the middle of a grassy field with those shoes if I were her, lol. Now I know that that effect does not work since a lot of other users clearly decided it was just a bad choice of background too. lol

Your entries are always unique and effective.
