Flush with her recent success, Laurus felt perfectly prepared to snag the fragment zigzagging lazily within arm's reach. However, it showed a sudden of speed when she moved toward it. Her hand missed it by a couple of inches.

Another orb drifted past Laurus to bump up against a crumbling pillar. Spreading her hands to keep it from escaping like the others, she captured it neatly within a cage of fingers.
The sound this time was a howl. No doubt it would be spine-chilling to some, but it sounded comforting to Laurus. Or was the comfort simply an effect of the warmth that each fragment seemed to give off?
Brushing aside the question, she sighted around for another bright orb.

Viae placed her hands carefully on her hips, frowning out over the rushing falls and fog beyond the waters. This was... the place she sought? Beautiful though it was, she couldn't help but puff up a little in... well. She wasn't overly happy, she at least knew that much.
A bright light glinted beside her, and she stiffened. What.... was it? Reaching out, her hand closed over the strange... fragment. How interesting. Peering down at it, and then glancing about her, Viae realized there were... quite a few more out there. Huh. Well... while she had a moment...

Brandished with a new sense of purpose and name, Niche wandered out of the pillared room and into outside world.
..or, what was left of it.
Crumbled pillars and fog was all that could be made out except for veil of light orbs strewn across the land. The light from the orbs reminded him of the glowing blue core in his chest.
Wandering out into the bleak landscape he joined the other shadows in trying to catch the orbs of light. He reached out to touch one but just as he formed a gasp upon it it flew upward, far beyond his reach.

When Laurus darted toward a cloud of glowing fragments, many scattered and escaped. But one remained in her hand, with the words, "Don't run off without telling someone, hear?"
She didn't dwell on the words. Who would she tell here, anyway? She stood still a moment to look at the other shadowy figures in the area, but another luminous cloud of orbs sent her chasing after it, thoughts of socializing deferred for now.

While her first attempt had been easy enough, and still the fragment glowed warm and safe in one of her hands.... her second attempt was not so successful. She glared as the next fragment she reached for slipped through her fingers. This... was going to be harder than she'd assumed, wasn't it?

By the time Laurus caught up that luminous cloud of orbs, most had dispersed. Of the two that remained, they seemed determined to head in separate directions. If she got to them before they were too far apart, maybe...

Another reach, another fail. A low sound rumbled in her chest, but Viae ignored the odd vibrations. The fragments were slicker than she'd assumed.

Laurus walked on, but the orbs ahead of her kept zipping away before she could even get within range to attempt a capture.
Finally she turned right, hoping that a change of direction would also bring a change in luck. Her hopes were not disappointed; she had just turned when she found herself face to face with a hovering orb. Reflexively, her hands clapped around it.
"You should speak up more," she heard. The voice was very certain of itself, but she remained unconvinced. Shrugging off the message, she set the fragment beside the others she had already gathered before walking toward the shrine.

Searching for another low lying orb within his reach, Niche wandered into a path of fallen pillars. Through the rubble he could see a faint light and brushing the stone and dirt aside he held a fragment in his hand for the first time. His chest tingled with warmth. He wanted more.

Lifting his head from the rubble where his last fragment was found, he caught a glimpse of light above him, this time on top of a still standing pillar.
Thinking for a moment, he climbed on top the piles of rubble around him until he was close to the top of the erect pillar. With the fragment in sight he leapt off the rubble in hopes of grabbing the orb floating just a few feet in front of him...
Grey matter met earth with a thud. With only fog left in his fingers he stood up again and with slightly more resolve went off in search of more light.
