Amanda listened, watching the man and judging him, his posture, his every word. Things went bad, things got a little better, then they got worse and here they were. "You sound sincere and honest." TImothy nodded. "Mother everything he's saying is true. I have medication for my pain to prove it." "Well now," Rachel said before Amanda could snap something rude "Lunch is in the kitchen and it's almost done. I'm glad you both are safe, really. It means a lot to me. And thank you, Daren, for taking good care of him. Until then, help me set the table, all right?"

Was that really it? That was all they had to say and it was done? he'd let their son fall down the stairs! true, he didn't tell them everything, if he had he'd be lunch, but still- "yes, ma'm." he hurried to help Rachel, making sure James sat down at the table first so that he could rest. it didn't take long to set the table so he decided to make juice to go with their lunch. "James? i'm out of cranberry juice, but i have apple, orange and grape. which would you rather?"

Amanda wasn't pleased, not at all. Why did Rachel keep on interfering? This man had made nothing but mistakes the past two days and Rachel expected her to keep quiet? "My poor baby." Amanda said as Timothy sat down, kissing his head. "Aomine has been just awful to you." Timothy shook his head. "He's doing his best, Mother. it was my own mistake I... I thought he was Andrew for a moment." "What did he do to you?!" "He accused me of lying." Amanda looked confused at this. She wouldn't understand why this was bad for him so he kissed her cheek. "I'm fine, Mother, trust me." and the table was soon set, Rachel filling their plates with steak strips and what appeared to be slop but it was really a flour and water mixed n with partially mashed potatoes, peas and carrots. "this will fill everyone right up. I added lots of salt for flavor. Didn't have any shrimp." She explained, placing the meat strips on top of the bland colored food. "It's fine, Mom." but at the notice of no cranberry juice he thought. "apple juice is fine, Aomine. You get to sit across from Mother."

Hearing her name, Apple jumped up onto the top of a chair and from there to Daren's shoulder, settling down across his shoulders and purring happily to welcome him home. she'd been napping, having been calmed by Rachel after the two women bursting in sent her into a terrified tizzy. Daren gave her a little scratch before he made the juice and brought it out. at the direction of where to sit, he felt his stomach drop. though he was grateful to not have to sit next to her, sitting across from Amanda would almost be worse. it meant she could stare straight at him the entire meal. this was going to be fun. he sat down and looked over the food, smiling, "thank you for the meal. i don't normally have shrimp, though. don't eat it all that much, but if you like it, James i can keep it in stock in the freezer."

"It's fine." Timothy said. "I don't eat it much." "Nonsense, he loves seafood." Rachel said, "but we only ate it on special ocassions so it's like a treat to him." the man blushed, silencing himself with the food. Amanda was doing exactly what Aomine suspected, staring at him. But she was timing his bites carefully before swinging her foto directly into his shin, hoping he'd bit onto the fork. Never a fun feeling. she took another bite and caught Rachel's look, looking away like she'd done nothing.

Daren smiled, "alright, i'll be sure to remember that." he'd make sure to get some sea food the next time they went to the store for James. his bites were accompanied by a kick to the shin, but it only made him more careful rather than bite down harder. every movement, every bite was done in complete control of his face and body. he didn't want to give any indication of what Amanda was doing, even though he could feel the bruises forming on his poor abused shins. thankfully the dinner was finished quickly enough and he got up to gather dishes. "i do have ice cream if anyone is interested?" he refused to limp, cal him stubborn, but he didn't want to give Amanda that satisfaction.

"Let me help!" Timothy said, standing as well. "I can't get used to walking if I don't walk." he said with a smile. "We'll be in the kitchen." "have fun you two." Rachel said with a smile, waiting for their backs to be turned before shooting a glare at Amanda. "That is rude." "He's just fine." "His knuckles were white as snow." "He's tan, his knuckles just turn yellow."

"thank you, James." Apple had long ago abandoned him to his abuse and was now curled in the corner of the kitchen where her bed was laid out. "how about you wash and i put away? sound good?" at least washing meant that James didn't have to move around the kitchen. "that was really good, your moms' are great cooks, James. i might have to get her recipe for that so we can make it later with shrimp in it too. i bet that would be really good as well." he was trying to keep a smile up, to keep a good conversation flowing. then he wouldn't think about his aching shins. it was ok, though. he'd gotten good at pretending like it didn't hurt years ago, he just was a bit out of practice. Apple sat up and looked at Daren for a little while, studying him. she blinked before standing up and walking to the kitchen. she crept under the table and with one quick swipe, scratched the little one's shin before running to jump into the lap of the bigger one, purring happily. she'd obtained revenge for her master and was more than ready for scratches now.

"I could dry." He offered, but Aomine did know where everything was so he obediently washed the dishes, rinsing the food particles and cleaning it with the soft part of the sponge. "Mom is the great cook. Mother likes to pretend she can cook but she's not very good at it." he explained, placing another dish on the rack. "But we don't need to get seafood if you don't want too. Seafood is really expensive you know. Especially lobster tail." and tried to remember the last time he had lobster tail. Timothy was rather positive it was around the time he graduated high school. The one and only time he ever had lobster tail. "But I didn't think you liked it, Aomine. You were eating sort of slow. Amanda gave a squeak as three sharp claws dug into her skin before removing themselves. She looked under the table angrily, the cat in Rachel's lap. "Rachel!" "You deserved it." the woman said, lightly scratching at the cat with her nails. "You were abusing Aomine all through lunch."

Daren flinched a little and the mention of how slowly he had been eating. "W-well, you know what they say about taking your time when you enjoy something!" he said quickly, laughing thinly, "so i guess i just enjoyed it that much." he didn't want James to find out just why he'd had to eat so slowly. "so lobster tail, huh? i haven't ever had that, but i've heard it's good. tell you what, how about we go to red lobster for dinner? it'll be my apology for being such a failure this morning, deal?" Apple arched her back and lifted her chin, angling her body so the scratches were in just the right places. she liked this one, she scratched her and was nice to Daren. the little one was mean like the little kids that would throw things at her when she was in the park.

"I suppose that's true, but I thought you were supposed to eat slowly so your stomach could process when it's full?" and placed the last dish on the rack and turned the water off, drying his hands and the counter around the sink. "Lobster tail is really expensive but it's so delicious and juicy and ugh. Oh my goodness my mouth is watering just thinking about it." he said. But the option to go to Red Lobster? "Aomine, it's really expensive, lobster tail. You don't need to apologize for my outcry this morning. Trust me, you're fine." and pat his shoulder with less awkwardness than with Taki. "And, and I'm going to try using your first name from now on." and looked at the man, gaining the courage to say it. "D-D-Daren! Daren! Daren! Daren! D-Daren Aomine!" Rachel heard TImothy frequently repeat the officer's name, continuing to give love and affection to the cat. "They're becoming friendlier." "They're not having sex." "That's not what I said, Amanda."

Daren smiled widely when James used his name for the first time. "thank you," he whispered softly when James finally managed to get it out. "Thank you James." he gave the man a hug, a very light, loose one that he stepped away from quickly. "i'll keep calling you James until you say it's ok for me to call you something else, deal? but you can call me whatever you want." he slipped his hand into James' and gave it a light squeeze before letting go. "would you like some ice cream for dessert?"

"Oh, uh, you're welcome." he said, accepting and returning the hug before letting go. "Y-You can call me Timothy as well since I'm calling you by your first name, Ao-Daren! Th-That's what normal people do! Wh-Who take care of each other and are kind of friends, right?" That is what they did? And everyone was offering a first name that it seemed sort of weird not to call them by it if they called each other by it. "Yes please, I'd like some ice cream." "Us too!" Rachel called. The man suddenly became as red as his hair, realizing his parents could hear him. "Th-They'd like ice cream too."

As he recalled, calling James by his full name was a bad thing, and Givens only called him Timmy. "Can i can you Tim for short? or would you rather just go by Timothy?" at the cry for ice cream, he gathered the three different types and took them to the table along with bowls and spoons. "I wasn't sure which you would like the best so i just brought them all. pumpkin pie, vanilla bean and cookie dough. you're choice."

"Tim?" He stared at the completely unheard of name before nodding, not really sure why Aomine would ignore his full name. "Tim is fine if you'd like that." and helped the man by bringing the bowls and spoons. "How thoughtful of you." Rachel said, taking the cookie dough for her and Amanda, pouring it. Lucky for Aomine for having this flavor, Amanda might be nicer. "Pumpkin pie flavored?" Timothy asked, looking at the carton before looking over at the ingredients. His eyes landed on the calories and he was sure he felt his heart implode. All that for just that much ice cream? he looked at his mothers who had enough for more than one serving and decided to swallow his small fear of gaining weight (another thanks to Andrew for that) and made his own bowl.
