Few things in this world matched the depths of Vanni's patience. She waited and watched the Trubbish, doing her best to hold his gaze (although she did have to blink occasionally, making her a failure at the staring contest). The long scene suddenly broke at the Trubbish's indigiant wail. She opened her mouth to speak, perhaps to mollify him, but found herself at an impasse. For a moment, the confusing sensation of déjà vu over came her... a strange round poison-type, potential energy slowly building...
And it suddenly hit her. The Koffing back on during the incident in the Aether that had used Selfdestruct! And this time, there wasn't a Culann to take the hit for her. (not that she wanted him to, but...) "This is not the panel-certified way to get your groove back!" she yelped, before desperately twirling out of the way. Twirling as though her very life depended on it.

Technically speaking her life did depending on it, so it was a good thing she performed an expert twirl. Within moments the Trubbish was simply gone.

Under such a panic that she was, Vanni nearly slipped and fell right into the sewage line. Fortunately, she managed to halt herself, ballet flats catching hard friction on the concrete. She yelped again, arms spiraling and she wobbled precariously for a moment, before landing backwards away from the sludge. She sighed with relief, breathing filtered air through the mask. Vanni had neither drowned in sewage nor been blown up by a not-funky-at-heart Trubbish. Not too shabby for an encounter. Finally gathering her bearings and wits, she continued forward through sewers beneath the power plant.
What Vanni would encounter this time around was more then likely a less then welcoming sight. At first it would appear like a large soft pile of mould which had grown upon the pathway floor; but as she drew nearer it would slowly rise up, revealing itself as a voluminous mushroom cap. The creature beneath it was a Foongus, one with an oddly intense gaze. For a moment or two it would merely stare at Vanni, but as a glint came into it's eye one arm would fling forward ">You there!<" It declared ">From the state of your dress, the east tunnel scum on your left shoe, and that particular crinkle on your nose I can surmise you're not from around here!<" For a moment the Foongus would pause ">Additionally you appear to be human! Based on these facts I can conclude that you are...an intruder!<" She declared, dropping one tiny into the other as she nodded her head ">Yes another brilliant deduction by yours truly. Fufufufu.<" Evidently she was neither aware of the glaring obviousness of her declaration, or the fact that a human couldn't understand her anyway.

Vanni, of course, understood exactly nothing that the Foognus said, and therefore missed her impressive logical skills. At least the trainer could guess the mushroom was attempting to communicate, but she had no idea what the thing was saying. For all she knew, it was attempting to discuss tax fraud. If only she had that item she'd acquired temporarily on the Island! Or some other kind of translator. She'd have to ask Professor Stratton when she returned. But until then, she'd have to work with diplomats. She reached in her pocket, and pulled out the Pokeball of the monster she trusted the most. "Dear, could you field this one for me?" she requested, nodding to her small poison rabbit.
Phoebe appeared in a burst of light, landing in front of her trainer. She shook her spines out. When was the last time she'd been out of her Pokeball? The Nidoran wasn't sure. Either way, she had be called out for a reason, and she'd look after her trainer regardless of what oddities she'd face. [There a problem, miss?] she remarked shortly, eyebrow cocked. She wasn't particularly interested in picking a fight with a weird mushroom that chose to live in a sewer, but if it came to pass...
Though she may not have been interested in the Foongus, the little sewer shroom was more then a little interested in her! Within a few seconds the Poison-Type was in Phoebe's face, inspecting her closely. ">I deduce by the palor of your skin, accompanied by those whiskers and that poison secreting horn that you....ARE A NIDORAN!<" The Pokemon declared, before promptly, and rather rudely lifting up Phoebe's back end by the tail and inspecting her hindquarters ">...and a female one no less!<" This was however not to be the end of the Foongus's detective show ">Now then given your sudden appearance from that strange little sphere, and the familiar way by which the intruder addresses you, I can ascertain that you two are in cahoots!<" Yet another brilliant deduction by a truly mind boggling detective.

The female Nidoran sat back on her haunches, blinking in a befuddled manner as the sewer shroom fluttered around her. Well, she hadn't be expecting any analysis this... actually what time of day was it? Eh, it didn't matter. Phoebe rolled her eyes at the little show. [Brilliant deduction, you-- YWARHG!] She couldn't help yelping with surprise and annoyance when the Foongus violated her personal space bubble in a very obnoxious manner. She kicked out with her hind legs, suddenly glaring at the mushroom with a glint of fury. [You going to harass me some more, or are you going to let us pass?] He spines shook with frustration, wishing she had some way to access her natural poison, even if it wouldn't be too useful against this Pokemon.
Vanni stood back, smiling vacantly. Oh good, Phoebe had made a friend.
In response the Foongus would remain absolutely still, holding the same dynamic pose for more then a minute, possibly even three. Then, and only then would she clearly state ">Well of course not<" Perhaps not the most dramatic or unpredicted response, but it was the truth. ">Criminals such as yourselves cannot be allowed to roam free in our quiet little tunnel! No no, you must be defeated and locked away from the safety of others<" The Foongus declared ">Clearly violence is the only solution to this problem! And if that fails we'll just use more!<" Well one had to give the Poison-Type one thing, she certainly didn't hesitate.

[Yay. Violence.] The female Nidoran simply stared at the Foongus without even a hint of emotion. Well, she probably could have handled the situation better... but, to be fair, that last act probably counted as harassment, and Phoebe was already a little tetchy from having been stuck in the ball for so long. She scratched her claws against the concrete, both as to sharpen them and as a simple pre-battle warm-up.
Oh dear. Vanni titled her head to the side, green eyes thoughtful. Seemed she was once again in another unavoidable battle. Once again, she wished for some kind of device that would allow for communication with Pokemon; if she could have just talked to the Pokemon... well, you could reason your way out of everything, but it couldn't have hurt. She heaved a slight sigh, then gave her starter Pokemon a light nod. "As you will, dearest. Scratch."
That was all she'd been waiting for. Phoebe dragged her claws one last time over the pavement before lunging at the mushroom with a Scratch. It seemed they were evenly matched when it came to speed, so for the moment, it was anyone's game.
">Why do they always resist...<" The Foongus muttered, waving one arm about as if she were rolling her shoulder. Well she supposed it could be worse, at least these two weren't simply making a run for it. That was always a pain in the a** when you didn't have legs yourself....or come to think of it an a** to actually speak of. Hyping herself up the Foongus would begin releasing a series of small yellow spores from the top of her head and into a three foot span around her >Stop in the name of lo....no no...STOP IN THE NAME OF THE LAW!<" The Foongus demanded, verbally stumbling there for a moment as her Stun Spore filled the immediate area!

Phoebe yelped as she overshoot her leap, which sent her tumbling to the side. Bright yellow spores rained down over her, lightly coating her purple hide. Well, just grand. She could already feel the strange plant taking affect in her body, the paralyzing component activating. Well, she couldn't rest now-- even if her trainer had something to cure this status, would stop the Foongus from simply trying it again? So instead of giving Vanni the chance to try and coddle her, the Nidoran was on her feet mere seconds after she'd fallen. With a hiss, she struck forward with a Scratch-- if her last attack hadn't worked, perhaps this one would.
In response to the oncoming Nidoran the Foongus would merely stand there, eyes focused on her target....after all, one of the inconvenient things about having no legs was the inability to move around with any sort of swiftness. That didn't mean however that was lacked the ability to dodge! ">OBJECTION!<" The Foongus exclaimed as if the word had significance, swinging one arm outward in attempt to bat away Pheobe's arms. She wasn't without the ability to dodge...but that didn't mean she was so inclined as to use it.
It was roughly at this same instance Vanni would find something rather odd floating down the sewer canal within her reach. At first it appeared to simply be a large rock, but closer inspection would reveal what looked like bones....a Fossil?

( 11-9 )+ (8-8 ) = 2! 2 damage to the Foongus The Nidoran's claws hit their mark, though with less force than she would have like. She pulled back, red eyes light up despite her status ailment. [Sore wa chigau yo,] she remarked sardonically. Her whole body tensed as she prepared-- hopefully-- to dodge whatever attack this insane blabbering mushroom decided to throw are her.
Vanni, meanwhile, would find herself distracted from the battle by a strange floating object. Carefully, she fished it out of the canal with her cane. She blinked, staring. A fossil? What on earth was a fossil doing down here? The small trainer slipped it into her pocket, resolving to think about it later.
">OVERULED! GEH!<" The Foongus cried dramatically, flopping over on to her back. Something she only realized in hindsight was an utter mistake. With a large mushroom cap topping her head, and tiny little arms, pushing herself back up would prove a feat grander than winning this confrontation...thus she'd opt to simply lay there as if she'd been that way from the beginning. ">Based on the way you speak, and further more your mannerisms one can reach only a single conclusion...<" The so called detective would begin anew ">...you....ARE NOT NATIVE TO THIS REGION!<" Genius! So certain of her incredible deductive skills the Foongus was in fact feeling much better, as if the damage she'd taken hadn't even happened at all; the entire time failing to realize a stream of small green bubbles had begun to traverse the distance between herself and the Nidoran. Absorb in all it's simplicity.
