Best: Lester - to be specific the AdeanxMidayle Lester. This Lester gets all the bows passed down that Midayle had, which means pretty much every bow besides the Ichival. On top of that, he gets the Minor Ulir blood so he gets a bonus to his HP growth and Luck growth. But overall, I just end up finding him to grow lovely for me. He gets Pursuit passed down to him, which allows him to attack twice.
Worst: His father Midayle wasn't so useful for me though. While one can make him a good unit by leveling him decently, and Elite Ring abusing, he just doesn't do well for me. While he does have pursuit, which allows him to attack twice, there is always Jamka to upstage him with his Pursuit and continue combo.

Best: PoR Astrid. Oh my GOSH, why didn't I put her on my team my first two play throughs of this game? I didn't know what I was missing until I actually raised her up my third run! She's a beast and far surpasses Rolf AND Shinon, plus the horse utility (along with Canto) is pretty rockin'.
Honorable mention goes to Shin, who's got some pretty solid growths despite FE 6's terrible RNG.
Worst: Going with RD Astrid because apparently she forgot how to be awesome in the sequel.

Best: Robert- The only bow user in FE5 that is actually GOOD. To start, he has awesome stats and stat growth, has a mount to escape from scary things easier, re-movement to do hit-and-run tactics, and for the icing, PC of 3, 3! Finally, although he only has one movement star, but Tanya has zero. In short, he's awesome. Worst: FE3!Zagaro. Yup, there was a time when the invincible Zagaro and Wolf were mere Jeigans. Granted, they were an exclusive class in FE1, but since the Hunter and Horsemen (who can't use swords like in FE11 therefore being essential Bow Knights) merged come FE3, they lost their ability to shine and got overpowered by Kashim. Even Wolf has marginally higher growth rates. Unit HP ST SK SP LK WL DF RS
Zagaro 90 30 20 10 10 30 20 03 Wolf 70 40 10 20 50 60 20 03 Kashim 70 60 40 40 20 20 20 03
As seen, Zagaro comes last place in everything, minus HP, but can't really put that HP to use if you're just going to get crap level ups 3/10 of the time, eh, Zagaro? His later Sedgar incarnation is awesome, and I'd totally run s**t over with Sedgar over and over again, but in the end poor older incarnation Zagaro still stinks.

Best: FE9 Astrid
Paragon, Canto, and an additional weapon type at promotion - all combined - are what really make this such a winning combination. One of the biggest disappointments about bow units is their inability to attack at close range, but Canto and not being mono-bow take care of that together really well. Canto alone is the single most redeeming factor a bow user can have, quite frequently (not always, but frequently). And it's worth noting that if skills worked in FE9 like they do at FE10, Astrid wouldn't be keeping that Paragon and probably wouldn't be as good as she is.
Worst: FE10 Astrid
Holy s**t. The only other unit who has ever arguably been this nerfed is Leaf. And at least he's around for every chapter and worked with through the entire game to make up for how he got nerfed. Astrid? Well, her terrible availability is already a major inhibition to begin with, Paragon can be plucked off of her and put to use on anyone else, and her class tree happened to be nerfed quite a bit anyway. At least she's so awesome in FE9.

Best: Astrid (FE 9). For reasons already stated and because she is WONDERFULLY AWESOME in FE 9.
Worst: Astrid (FE 10). I still do not understand how such a wonderful unit could go so wrong, but she did. A sad and unfortunate end to such an amazing unit.

Best: FE11- quick, painless, don't have to piss around for 50+ turns looking for trivial treasure, Garnef is there for challenge, and so on, I quite like this one. Worst: FE4 Ch. 5- METEORS, METEORS EVERYWHEREEEEE! And half your units are horseback, so not only is it slower than it should be, but you're being pelted by Meteors, Thracians and high, boring turn counts. Credits to ChinaFE and Serenes Forest for the maps.

Best: Fire Emblem 7. Why? It's got two "interesting" bosses and a side chapter associated with it, so I guess i'll give it to good old 7.
Worst: Fire Emblem 8's. Now, normally I'd be complaining about how easy Sacred Stones is, but since I usually go the Ephraim route (******** Eirika), I often find the only challenge in this game is reaching Eirika, Saleh, and Innes at the top of the map.

I may get killed for this... >>;
Best: FE 8. I have to agree with Legault that the map is easy. However, it gives some challenges for you to use your strategy. You don't need to reach to the top to meet Eirika, Selah, and Innes. Just have them go down to you in order to regroup. Not to mention, you have to think of how to play defense in the beginning before becoming offense when the enemy's number is lower. Not to mention, it's easy to find the treasures in the desert than FE7 and FE9.
Worst: FE7. As much as I love FE7, the desert is not easy to level up. You have your units on one side while you have Pent on the other side, making you have to use a flying unit to rescue him (that is not only risky but also suicidal mission too.) And not only that, but you also have Pent as an Other unit, killing off the enemies with his Elfire, taking away your EXP. The treasures are somewhat hard to find, but you have one treasure that is in one of the bosses' attack range. If you don't strategize your tactic, that boss will move and attack you. Not to mention, it's hard to travel on desert if you don't have flying, archers, and magic users to get to the bosses in FE7 than in FE8 where there's a path that makes it easier to travel across to the bosses.

Best: Unlike what Lolwhut said, I will place FE4 chapter 5 as my best. It gives you the challenge of meteor, which could kill your units off. You also need to choose the units you want to send out to the desert to take down the final bad guy in this section of the game. It's a strategic thing for me and a bit of a challenge.
Worst: FE8 considering the map doesn't exactly have that much of a challenge to it. You go on Eirika's route and you get Duessel to tank down below when he comes with Ephraim. With Eirika's path you get both Innes and Saleh to take down enemies and protect Eirika. It was just too easy to get everything on that map

Best:
FE 8
I'm going with Isadora on this one. As I stated before I really love the idea of the dual-bosses (Being generals we knew ahead of time instead of random, creepy bandits... >.> ) and the added excitement of the whole "Rescue your brother/sister." Sure it's not that challenging and the desert really is limited on this map, but it's still pretty fun and there is the whole building a strong defense before going on the offensive strategy as Isadora said, which adds depth to the map. FE 10's was all about "Omg, frickin wyvern lord came out of nowhere and killed my sniper! Screw this!" after slowly (and agonizingly, that adverb itself is agonizing to the extreme) making it toward the boss...
Worst:
FE 10 Desert Chapter Part 4 (Spoilers for those who have not played FE 10)
Oh. My. God. I HATED this chapter!!! Not just because it involved Micaiah and running around with under-leveled units, but also because there are a crap ton of enemies everywhere! The sand is everywhere as opposed to other desert chapters where there are at least some grass or freebie spaces like FE7 and FE8 and it basically makes units like Nolan or Edward useless and makes players rely on their weaker fliers (Oh, Tanith what happened to you? D: Sigrun -angry face-) and not so stunning mages. But that's not all. The worst part about this is the fact that at the very beginning (Especially if you're playing hard mode) there are two stupid bishops that are constantly "el" silencing and "el" sleeping your units.
Plus there are wyvern lords flying about to one-hit KO your mages, archers with crossbows walking about to snipe your flyers and at some point even the BK comes in to steal experience (Far worse then Pent when the BK can literally own everything in one second and refuses to be rescued!). The other issue is the fact that Stefan is located relatively close to the boss and he is a must have with Micaiah...That and the wyvern lords that spawn in the beginning and cause you to freak out when they can easily catch up to anyone and own them are a real pain in the arse oh and add the ugly, golden enemies that have become a real nuisance at this point in the game and this map just plain sucks. Typically all of my good units are also in Ike or Elincia/Tibarn's group so Naesala and Skrimir get a real work out in this map. (Not fun having only two overpowered units do all the work fyi.) FE8 desert chapter may be easy, but at least it isn't stupidly hard/annoying like this map. Inching characters along the sand just isn't fun and it's way too fussy.

Actually, you can use Mordecai or Lethe for recruiting Stefan in FE 10 if you have an FE 9 transfer.

Plus, you assign who goes to that army. It should be all of your fliers and and a good deal of magic users and Laguz (why are no Laguz slowed down in the desert transformed anyway? Makes no sense). And you get Naesala who can handle the vast majority of opponents by himself if absolutely necessary.
And Tanith is STILL turning it in FE10. Still has that fabulous earth affinity and actually outperforms Marcia offensively with her stat growths this time around. I take her to Endgame regularly and if Nephenee isn't getting the Wishblade, Tanith is.
Best: Torn between FE6 and FE8, actually. Giving it to FE6... yeah, definitely FE6.
They both have a lot going on in them. The FE6 one is obviously more difficult, adding in a Fog of War element FE8 lacks, but they're both fun chapters. I'm going to give it to FE6. Anyone who thinks having two groups of enemies to engage with makes FE8 fun, here's a list of what FE6 throws at you: A very large amount of bandit reinforcements which produces a second boss for the chapter that moves across the desert and comes from the rear (the fact that Valter and Caellach don't move is kind of disappointing - numerous Desert chapters have moving bosses), a time limit if you want that gaiden chapter and access to the real ending of the game, a piece-of-s**t unit you're responsible for defending (having to reach Eirika or Ephraim, far more competent units, is cake by comparison) the entire chapter, manakete enemies scattered about, and as mentioned before a Fog-of-War element. In the desert. Just because. And, as per usual, there are treasures to be had, and you'll need to bring two thieves with you if you hope to get it all and still finish the chapter fast enough for the gaiden.
Oh, and you actually start ON the desert and have to treck to the non desert territory where you'd presumably finish the chapter. And it's a pretty big desert. s**t be real. FE8's is a really fun chapter (especially for FE8 - actually FE8 has a lot of good ideas for chapters, they just aren't as well executed as they possibly could be), but it isn't an awfully large desert. It's a surprisingly small amount of actual relevent desert area, actually. You have to earn your keep in FE6's desert chapter in a way you don't have to for FE8. FE6 is keeping it real
Worst: FE4's Chapter 5.
I find this chapter stupid. Desert chapters can be quirky and quite memorable, but for my last chapter with Sigurd to be a desert chapter? Not appreciated. And I find those meteors obnoxious as well. We all know the only real way to deal with it is by sending Fury out to deal with them one at a time. I appreciate how having Sigurd have to march through the desert and become exhausted before his homecoming makes what happens at his homecoming all the more... you know if you've played it, not going to spoil it, but I found making this a desert chapter at all inappropriate and unenjoyable.

Best: Sacred Stones' desert chapter. The reinforcements are there to pick off when the turns are right, you get two bosses to beat to get twice as much boss exp, and you get the treasures as a bonus (although I always have to look at an online map to find 'em all.)
Worst: Goes to FE 6 for a newbie shaman, a valkyrie in a movement-restricted map for horses, and the need to turn-rush.
