Little Halo accepted the apple; holding it with his front feet as if they were hands, though they clearly weren't. He sniffed the apple and after a few moments figured out how to bite it. He used the side of his mouth to bite it and as he chewed he seemed happy. It was definitely tougher than what his grandfather used to feed him, but it was also sweet and that made him like it. As he ate he calmed down and his little wings stopped stretching out. As he ate four more markings appeared on his body.

Edel smiled and continued walking as Halo ate the apple. At least he could manage to eat apples. That meant he'd be able to chew through meat if she cooked it soft enough for him. That should help keep him tide over and give his growing body what it needs. Minerals and metals though... might have to try some of her old coins. She didn't really trust modern gold and silver... too much of a chance that it's been melted down with other metals or something. As they walked, Edel reached a large, spiral staircase that led down only. She looked at the stairs, then back at Halo. She didn't want it to be too bumpy of a ride for him, so she opted for using a bit more of her magic for him. Turning her attention back to the steps, she moved one foot forward. Rather than putting pressure on the step, light crackled out from under her foot. When she moved the other beside it, more sprang from under her feet. Once she was sure that she was balanced, she let the light float her and the little one down the stairs. A much smoother ride than walking, especially for her young passenger. The further they descended, the darker it became. The basement was dimly lit with candles and torches. The less electricity she used around the den, the better it was on the animals. Some were rather attracted to it, and she had learned the hard way that they would eat her out of quite the electric bill. As... well as three towns over... Something from deep inside the large basement snorted. Like taking a metal scraper over logs in a fire place. A low grumble, faint sparks glittering around a dark door, and the unmistakable smell of smoke and heat.

Halo finished the apple rather quickly, but he didn't really finish it. He had half the apple left. He gigled in awe as they floated down the stairs and when they reached the dark basement he chad to squint his eyes to see. but by the time his eyes adjusted 10 more marks were etching themselves into his skin with red light. His eyes glowed golden in the dark. Halo sniffed the air; smelling the scent of smoke and heat. He said, "Hello? Mister Mars?" Even though he was finished with the apple he didn't let go of it. He thought Mars would like to try some of the apple too, so he kept hold of the apple in hopes he could give it as a present to the older dragon.

There was no reply to the little one. Edel continued walking through the dimly lit basement until she reached the very far end. There, they stopped before a very large stone doorway. The boarder of it was heavily sculpted and filled with gems and runes. The creases around the door seemed scorched from something very hot quite some time ago. And on the floor before them, were whisps of ash that had fallen under the door. To Edel, she could hear nothing until she began opening the door. Placing her hand on the gems located on both sides of the door, the stones began to glow. As they did, a faint chatter could be heard from behind the stone door. Birds, horses, dogs, cats... all alerted that the door was about to open, and all knowing who was on the other side. Something... much bigger between those creatures and the door though. And it wasn't letting them pass. The large creature growled to hush the others. While Edel couldn't understand them, Dragon wasn't an in-understandable language to Halo. << Quiet. >> A gruff, rather unfriendly sounding voice snapped. << She's not alone...>> << Oh, it's just a hatching. >> A female taunted back. << Surely the great guard dog can smell THAT. >><< Probably just found another one and now she's bringing it down to join the rest of us. >> another voice added.<< It's NOT like us.... >> the gruff voice growled back. << Its.... strange. I don't like it.>> << You don't like anything that isn't the Master. It's a hatchling. We all can smell it. If she trusts to bring it down, then just let it be.>><< You'll get scolded for scaring it anyway, and you know it. >>The larger dragon snorted, and an intense heat could be felt through the crack of the door.

Little Halo felt the heat and heard the voices. He listed to them and decided it was time to add his own voice to the conversation. < < My Name is Halo. I am son of Heart and Hope, grandson to Wrath, and great grandson to Seraph. Like my family before me I am a deed dragon. I am quite possibly the last of my race. > > and then little halo paused for a moment. < < I am Honored to meet you all, though I cannot see you at present. In particular I want to meet You, Mr. Mars. > > Then the hatchling growled in mimicry of the dragon of heat and flame. < < No amount of growling, threatening my safety, or mean actions is going to make me leave or make me fear you in particular. I lost my parents and grand father before I hatched. I lost my Great Grandfather this morning when age took him. You cannot frighten me away, I have nothing to lose. > > Then Halo seemed to calm. < < If miss Edel Lets me, I will Happily bask in the heat you produce. And I have a gift for you. I thought you might like the sweetness of Apple. I saved half of the one miss Edel gave me so I could give it to you. > > And then the hatchling held the half of the apple toward the crack in the door so that the older dragon could smell it. Then Seraph added his Voice to the conversation. < < Young Mars. > > He chuckled deeply. His voice raspy and wheezing, yet deep and rumbling. < < Though I am dead, even I can see how lonely my great Grandson is. He is reaching out to You and you alone Mars. I cannot Make you accept him. But I pray you do. For the simple fact that he will need your protection if he is to grow to love you as much as he cared for me. The last Deed Dragon of the world is reaching out to you. > >

Edel looked down at Halo as he began to... well what Edel usually defined as "chatter". When her dragons all began clicking and emitting a low grumble from the back of their throats that wasn't a growl so much as "chattering" to one another. She looked down at the little on in her arms as she moved her hands around to the other jewels surrounding the door. When he moved the apple to the crack of the door, she smiled at him. Well... maybe she wouldn't have to worry about Mars being so defensive after all. Inside, the chattering had become silent. Even the other creatures stopped and stood still at the unfamiliar voices. Mars stared at the unopened door, and the two other dragons who had been conversing with him looked from the door to him. Then one finally broke the silence with a hearty laugh. << Well now... not JUST a new hatchling... but YOUR new hatchling, guard dog! >>Mars turned his head away from the door and let out another snort of smoke and ash. << Oh, leave him alone. This is serious. >><< I can't help it. Just the thought of the great guard dog watching over a hatchling. >><< Oh, leave him be... >> the female scolded. Mars snorted again, but did not say anything to the others, or to the strangers. Not an uncommon thing for the molten dragon. He was the more serious of the other dragons that roamed about the den. He didn't like being the butt of a joke, and he was... less than inexperienced when it came to caring for a young dragon.

As The Door came closer and closer to being opened little halo began to flap his wings again because of how good it felt to flap them every now and then. << Don't make fun of mister Mars! It's not very nice. >> innocent little Rosie 55 markings left to go before first judgment. With halo, just like in the story I'm writing about him, he is lucky in that he is given a second accumulation period after his Judgment. the reason being that he is the last of his kind and because of how many of his markings were earned through muscle twitches. He is given asecond chance so to speak to earn more traits. and after the judgment, Edel won't be carrying him anymore.

Wire_Colossus If he'll have the wingspan the grandfather said he would, I imagine she won't be carrying him around. XD She'll just have to enjoy it while she can. Once Halo had said that, the door itself began to glow. The stone door became bright, and the jewels around the door began to glitter. The light engulfed the door, and slowly the entire doorway faded away. A large set of clawed black feet were the first things to become visible. Then a massive form full of black and red scales that nearly blocked the entire doorway. Past him, a very large, dark cave could be seen. Farther back, it looked as though the cave opened up into a large grassy field. Visibility was difficult with the towering dragon sitting right in front of the doorway though. He was even taller than the door itself. His head and neck somewhere above the door. As the door fully opened, the large dragon stood and began to back away. His footsteps leaving low rumbling echoes bouncing off the cave walls. As he backed away, more of the cave could be seen. There was a small, serpent-like creature full of green and gold scales slithering around on the floor. Feathers covered the tip of it's tail and around the back of it's head. Standing next to the opposite wall of the cave was slim, pure white dragon. Not nearly as large as Mars, but big enough to be rode by a human. The sleekness of her body suggested that she was female. Her scales were reflective and shiny like glass, and her claws and horns were ivory. Also, unlike Mars, this dragon had wings. As Edel stepped through the magical doorway, the large black and red dragon moved his neck back to bring his head down to see the tiny creature in Edel's arms. His eyes were fiery and seemed to glow with the internal heat that burned inside him. His horns were black, as most of his body was. His face was more of a red color, and stretched down over his torso and stomach. Because he was being non-aggressive, his scales were cool and plane. Had he not been so docile, his scales would have been cracked and glowing like lava that was beginning to cool and turn hard and black. Fully angry, and he would have been fully molten and fiery. /// Until I can get something other than their basic design sketches up, you can view my journal for "close" pictures of the other dragons. Edel has a LOT of pets, and I've only gotten to sketch out a few of them in the comic so far. sweatdrop ////

<< Nice to meet you Mister Mars. My Name is Halo. >> The hatchling giggled as he looked up at Mars. He was big too. as he looked up at the older dragon he was completely unafraid. He was in awe of him, but not afraid. Not in the slightest. As he looked at Mars he continued to flap his wings. as he did, More and more markings apeared on his skin. His body was rapidly running out of space for markings. There was only room for one more as his wings finally stopped flapping. The only blank spot on his body that could be seen was a white spot on his horehead. And Then He Bared His teeth at Mars in a mock threat display. And the final spot was taken as red light etched the marking into his skin. Then he leaped out of Edels arms and his etire body began to glow with such an intense red light that what was happening within could barely be seen even by the dragons. Halo was growing. His body was evolving. His body grew considerably larger than it had been. After a moment the light faded and the young ddeed dragon began visible again. His front legs were very large bat like wings with opposable thumbs and two clawed fingers on each wing while the wings on his back were the same way. The two pairs of wings were connected by a wing membrane and it seemed the arms of the four front limbs made up the aactual frame work of the wings with the hands free to be used as such. Each of of the secondary hands had a fourth digit that was hyper enlongated and formed additional frame work for the wings. The wing membranes of the second pair of arms involved in the wings stretched from the tipps of the wings all the way to the base of the tail. There were eye spots on the undersides of the wing membranes but not on the backs. The tail was long with a good reach and a slightly developed boneclub at the tip. The tail was heavy and strong, which helped the hind legs stay balanced with the front limbs off the ground. Halo's neck was still long and lean, but his head had an almost square shape to it, and his jaws were filled with teeth like a T-rex, railroad spike shaped teeth meant for crushing through bone and armor. His eyes were still quite large; indicating how young he still was, and that was another thing, the pupils of his eye gave off actual light. He had strong looking flight muscles around all four of his shoulders and around his chest and ribcage. The most remarkable trait however was his defenses. His body save for his wing membraves was completely covered in heavily armored bone plates. He looked like he could withstand immense abounts of damage. He stood tall as miss Edel and likely weighed two or three times as much if not more. He was 13 ft long, and judging from his wings, he had a max wingspan at present of 33 feet. Over all, even with the armor on his body he looked lean and athletically built. His skin was no longer white, but instead it was pitch black, making his golden glowing eyes stand out even more. He stood there and looked at Mars before he looked at himself. and before their eyes his wing membrane receded, literally retracting in on itself until it could only be seen as a small flap of skin close to the surface of his four arms and body. And then, as if just to show off, he reversed that by rapidly extending his wing membranes again. Then he receded his wing membranes once more and rested his three of his four hands on the ground; holding up the half eaten apple with his fourth hand in offering. innocent little Rosie Enjoy the judgment. I shall be editing this into halo's Profile later today.

Edel watched as Halo transformed before her. When his transformation was complete, she blinked and carefully looked over his new form. "Well... that was... unexpected." she said. "I expected you to remain young for at least a week or two. If this is your adult form, shouldn't be much special care needed for you now." she said. The Grandfather HAD said that he would reach adult hood once his markings covered his body. So it was safe to assume Halo had his adult body now. The two other dragons who were close by watched in awe. The serpent ruffled it's feathers and shook his tail. << Well now... that's certainly impressive. Wish I could turn into a lightbulb and grow legs. >>
Mars remained silent. Now he felt even more out of his element. A hatchling was one thing... the Master could care for the hatchling most of the time. This creature aged within a moment's notice. This was.... strange to him. He didn't like strange. The large black dragon looked down at the apple Halo was still offering him. He didn't quite feel it was right to tell the kid that he didn't like fruit... not usually. He preferred bitter over sweet. But.... it was only half of a single apple. Such a tiny little thing wouldn't hurt. After another moment, Mars lowered his head and took the top of the apple with his teeth. Accepting Halo's offer.

There was a gasp from Seraphs Spirit, "I'd Agree with you Edel if that were the case... I could be mistaken, but If I'm not then Halo has been given a second accumulation period. He has not transformed into adult form. He's much too small. His adult form would be larger than Mars. At best he's what you would call a yearling as far as size and development goes. But One thing confuses me...his color should be white, not black..."Halo Giggled as Mars accepted the apple. His voice was still as soft as it had been before. He moved forward with his wings off the ground and he rubbed up against Mars' leg. He seemed to be snuggling. And he was still without fear. He stayed standing on his hindlegs as he snuggled; and though barely visible, silent tears fell down his cheeks. He was crying. He hadn't been near such a large dragon since before his great grandfather's death and It was a sensation he missed dearly.

"Has this ever happened before?" Edel asked, watching Halo. "A second accumulation period I mean. It could either be a result of his "middle age".... or heredity if he had a darker colored blood relative." she said. She wasn't sure why he would have changed colors otherwise. Mars looked down at the now-yearling and watched as he cuddled close against him. Being such a warm-bodied creature, he easily felt the cold wet tears touch his skin. The large dragon frowned, and moved his head a bit lower to inspect the young dragon. Make sure he wasn't injured or anything. He didn't see anything wrong, and he wasn't sure why the child was crying. Going simply on instinct, Mars moved his long tail around to the side. Carefully wrapping around himself, and thereby wrapping around the side of Halo with the spikes of his tail aimed towards the ground. Wasn't much of a hug... but it was the most he ever really gave.

"It has happened only twice in our races' entire history. The first time was one of my ancestors. He was given a second accumulation period because he had wasted most of his markings on muscle twitches. Halo's transformation is the second time. As for the coloration being inherited... Impossible. All Deed dragons are as pale as albino humans. There has never been a deed dragon of a different color. Not once in all our history." Seraph answered. Halo slowly calmed. << I'm sorry Mister Mars. I miss my grandpa. and because you are almost as big as grandpa, I couldn't stop myself. I'm sorry... >>

Edel frowned lightly. "That is a problem then..."Mars looked down at the young dragon, then raised his head back up towards the ceiling of the cave. His tail tightened around Halo, momentarily holding him a little closer to his leg. Mars jerked his head back, letting the apple slide into his mouth. It only took him one chomp to break the apple in half, then swallow the whole thing. << It's alright... >> He finally replied. << It will take time.... >>

Halo looked up at Mars with a sad look, but after a short moment he cheered up and snuggled against the bigger dragon again. << Thank you... >> and then he looked around. He looked at the other creatures and made a respectful bow. After a moment he looked at miss Edel and asked, "Could I maybe try something tougher than an apple? Something like what Mr. Mars Likes?"
