I am all for brushing up on knitting skills! I got yarn today for the wombs. I hope everybody likes the idea. If we can help in anyway or answer any questions, let us know.
I will light some incense for your kitty in just a few. I can't believe I have 7 now!!!! They have fleas not bad, but still I cannot afford to de flea 7 cats. Does anybody have a witchy or home remedy for them that will not cost much??? Let us know ow your kitty is.

Thank you soo much for that. I like to think that all the good wishes he has gotten so far for this has helped him out. The vet called and said it wasn't an abscess, it was a swollen sore spot, I guess like a pulled muscle or something, but that there wasn't anything to drain. They gave him a mild sedative for the exam to calm him down, and after that they gave him an anti-inflammatory and sent him home with some painkillers for the next few days. If he doesn't get better within a week we have to take him back in, but I think he'll be okay. He freaked out in the carrier until I got him to the car, where he calmed down. I guess he knew he was going home, hehe.

I'd like to ask for good energy for a local stray. It's been here since we moved in, hanging around the neighborhood, and looking progressively thinner. What worries me is that now it has wounds on its face that look like a festering case of road rash, but animal control here refuses to pick up cats. Luckily though I have a cat trap so I'm gonna trap it and take it to the pound, because even if they have to put it down that's so much more humane than what it's going through right now. But I do want to ask you to send good energy to the nameless kitty so that whatever happens it doesn't suffer. I feel so bad though, because if I had known it didn't have owners I would have taken it in. sad But now I'm afraid it might be too late to help. I feel so awful for not knowing, and not being able to help kitty. *sad face*

Awww poor thing! I will light incense for it. It is waytoo hot here to light candles, even tea lights.
I have decided that the gift that is going to take me longest to finish is the toboggan hat, so I am going to try and get as much of that knocked out today as I can. Even if I can get it a fourth of the way through, that will put well beyond where I start decreasing and it should easier every time after that that I work on it. Except the mittens, because I think I want to put some Celtic knotwork in them, if not for that they would be nothing more than a couple of pair of easy socks. I will get busy on those next. I try to keep one bigger project going and then some easier smaller things to work on as well. Most of the rest are crocheted, except the wombs. But the lady who's pattern it is says they only take about an hour. I want to do 7 of them.
So the hat is easy enough to do and interesting. My friend was complaining last year about not being able to find a cool (in her weird opinion) hat. So I am making it with red heart black held together with some some kind of accent yarn. So far I have used a shiny blue, a furry burnt orange and now I am starting on some rainbow accent yarn that is more dense than the burnt orange, but as not as long. When I am done, I am going to use all the scraps to make a long scraggly tassel. I don't know how long it will be when finished, but I am hoping there is enough accent yarn to make it at least 4 feet. The body will be mostly the rainbow with another stripe of the burnt orange, and then it will finish off with the blue, that way the point of the hat will not be covered in fur and it will more easily seen. Really yucky in my opinion, but I think she will love it.

Thank you so much. Those sound like awesome, thoughtful gifts. smile I promised pics of the shawl I was working on, the red one, so here it is: I was tired when I took the picture though, and didn't realize that the shawl is backwards there. Oops. sweatdrop The eyelet pattern has a garter stitch ridge framing them, and the plain section is stockinette. The yarn also has small sequins in it, so it's a bit sparkly. My camera wasn't able to capture that though. So for another couple questions, I have approximately 360 yards of two different worsted weight yarns in two shades of purple for my Grandma's gifts. At least one I want to turn into a moebius cowl, but can't find any good patterns on ravelry in that weight. Does anyone know of a design for that weight, or a reversible stitch pattern (preferably a lacy one) that I can use? Either/or will work, but in a perfect world it would be both, heh. Also, advice for what to do with the other 360 yards. I am going to use the light purple for the cowl, but I would like ideas for the second batch of yarn which is a dark purple. I can do another cowl easily, but if possible I'd like to do something different, that's not a rectangular scarf.

OK, that is beautiful!!!!! It doesn't matter that its backwards in the pic. You really got it done fast!
I barely got my 12 inches today and I have been decreasing my stitches too much. I may not even get three feet out of the hat. I wanted 4. I like longer toboggan hats. Its also too wide at the bottom, but I am going to overlap and sew some funky buttons on, so that might have even worked out better. I should just rip it out and start over, I am usually pretty good about doing that, but I like how it looks for an ugly hat even if it is going to be short
I cannot think off hand of any mobius scarves. You prefer crochet? Am kinda surprised. I will see if I have anything.

lol oops, I meant I prefer knitting. sweatdrop But I'm sure that's only because I learned it first, so for me it is more intuitive. But having said that I still like crochet a lot. I found a way to knit a moebius cowl in the round, a method by Cat Bordhi that I really like, I just don't have the circular I'd need for it and no way to easily get my hands on one. So I'm still looking. But I did find a couple knit moebius patterns I really like, I had to buy them on Ravelry but that is okay, they are only a couple bucks and really pretty so it was worth it.

Wow! It sounds like you two have been knitting up a storm! I have four knitting projects currently...two are scarves that i've never finished, one is a square that I was meant to give to a friend so she could turn it into a huge rug and one is this ling ropey sort of thing that I've forgotten the tecnique for...

I started slacking off of knitting for a while, but visiting with my aunt re-inspired me. biggrin I usually knit a lot anyways as I'm home all the time and don't have anything else to do, heh.
I think I've decided on the Moebius cowl design. I think I'm going to do a double crochet rib stitch, because that way there is no front or back, up or down. The symmetry of most of the other patterns I found was bothering me (with the exception of Cat Bordhi's moebius knitting technique), but that I can live with, lol. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Shouldn't a mobius work well with any pattern that has no front or back? I would think if you picked any afghan pattern you like and just twist before you join the round, you would be good to go. I can't wait to see what you do do. (ha ha, do do). I have never crocheted a rib before, always knit there.
I added another 4 inches to the hat and started the other Cthulhu hat.
I had a list of all the things I wanted to get done and lost it. I am going to make another one so I can be more organized. I think I may have added another pair of socks. I found some yarn that I know someone will just love.

That's why I wanted to do crochet, as you can find more patterns that are reversible in it than knitting, the problem I was running into was up/down. It was bothering my sense of symmetry, but I figure a nice simple, straightforward stitch will work fine.

It's funny, I read what you guys just wrote and I have no idea what it means... everything has it's own set of terminology, it's amazing all these words... two of the subjects I had today at uni; Australian flora and geomorphology - both have so much weird and wonderful terminology!

WOW Geomorphology? What is that all about? It would be interesting to know how Australian flora differs from the flora here. I have lived in three different areas of the US and the flora differs from area to area. I was listening to a podcast the other day and an Australian was talking about how the deserts in the States are so flat and plain compared to the ones in the Australia. He made them sound quite beautiful.

It's funny, when my mom runs across another knitter she'll call me up and say, "I just met someone who speaks knit" lol. And yeah, geomorphology sounds really interesting.
