Somehow she had the feeling she was going to get turned down. As much as she wanted to insist that the priestess take the robe, part of her also wanted to see the Captain, and she knew from experience that it was better not to question a person of high authority. "...I understand. It was a selfish request." Coline said, bringing the robe back against her chest. "Thank you, Priestess." With a brief bow she turned heel and made for the door, halting in her tracks hesitantly for a few moments before stepping outside.

Her steps were slow, she was well aware, tracks suggesting she was headed southeast. Just as Lorika had instructed.

The walk to the cabin was a difficult one. She'd found herself constantly stopping, turning to take a few steps back to the Temple, only to turn back around to resume her walk. She almost couldn't believe she was now standing in front of the door. Fighting off the last urge to turn and walk away, the young recruit let out a deep sigh.

This was it. No turning back now.

Shakily, Coline rose the back of her hand up to the door. Then, lowering her head, knocked mindlessly. If the drow were to listen intently he would be able to tell that the knocking was unnaturally light and recurrent.

Jessie's head snapped around from the washbasin to the bathroom door, which was open and led out into the main living room. His home had only three rooms - the two already mentioned and the bedroom, which was off to the other side of the living room - which, believe me, was more than ample for him. He could hear a small, timid tapping noise coming from the front door. It was a foreign sound, to say the least. In all of the weeks at the island base, he'd never once received a visitor. And now, they chose the most opportune moment - when he was halfway through washing his hair. It was Sod's Law at its finest.

Cursing lightly under his breath, he quickly finished rinsing his snowy hair and hurriedly wrung it out. The tapping came again. "I'm coming!" he barked, in the general direction of the door, but more like the bath. Thinking, as such, that they wouldn't have heard, he took a few quick steps to the door and repeated his cry. Having grabbed a towel, he hurriedly ruffled it around his hair, trying to get the worst of the water off so that he didn't look like a melting iceberg. Slinging the towel about his neck, he strode out into the living room, picking up his discarded under and overrobe and pulling them on, almost in the wrong order. It was surprising the effect the layers of clothing had on his appearance. While his robes were light and meant for mobility in combat, he wore them like armour, and they made him appear like something of an ominous dark cloud. The effect of seeing him shirtless, as he had been, was rather startling. The layers of clothing added a substantial amount of bulk to his, in actual fact, very lithe form. Being lean, however, is not the same as being weak, and nobody could say his body was not lethally powerful. Only human males need to be gargantuan to be strong.

The windows in the room were not visible; covered completely by thick, dark curtains that blocked out every inch of sunlight. Jessie, of course, could see perfectly, but the same had not applied for the Overseer. Jessie had come back to find many of his things scattered and knocked over, as the Overseer had obviously tripped his way around the room, without the sense to actually draw one of the curtains open. The rooms were a respite for the Captain, who still sometimes developed headaches from staying in the sun too long. The darkness was soothing and natural to him.

The tapping came at his door again. "I'm coming!" he growled, tugging the robes into better array. In despair, he glanced around, noting bits of the room which he hadn't put back together after yesterday's invasion - some stacks of books knocked over, a couple of spindly endtables fallen to the ground. Really, there couldn't have been more damage if an elephant had traipsed through the room. Sighing, he tousled his hair once more and headed to the door, stopping to pick up one of the many weapons that lined the room - a small, ornate dagger, in this case - and shoving it down his bootleg. He reached for the handle of the door, and then stopped in shock. His eye patch! He couldn't be seen without it! Even though his eye was often covered by hair anyway, the thought of leaving the healed wound uncovered was mortifying; as revealing as stepping outside naked.

He performed a small spin, trying to remember exactly where he'd carelessly set it down. The tapping came again. He could hear it closely now - erratic, as if the person outside was nervous. Maybe he'd frightened them with his shouting.

Groaning with frustration, he reached up and quickly arranged his wet hair as best he could so that it reassuringly covered the left side of his face. Then, he spun around and flung open the door.

"What do you want?!" he demanded at the person outside.

Then he saw who it was, and straightened up as if he'd been stung, expression shifting from annoyance to shock in a second. "Coline!"

Coline allowed her mind to drift for a while as she tried to think of how to best approach him once the door had opened. "Sir, does this belong you? No, that sounds too cheeky..." she whispered, so absorbed with herself and her dialogue that she barely noticed that she'd still been knocking all this time. "Then how about... I'm-- no, I apologize for intruding but the Overseer asked me to--"

Her thoughts were cut short when the Captain finally swung the door open and bellowed. Coline's stance wilted. Taking the robe with both her hands she shoved it into the drow's arms, head still lowered. "Ha--" she began, choking on her own words in fear. "I-- I'm sorry!" Then with a sharp turn she found herself pacing hastily away from the cabin, biting her lip in shame. She knew this was a bad idea. She never should have bothered.

Mouth agape, Jessie found himself staring at Coline's retreating form, a robe shoved into his arms. After several seconds where reality seemed to flip onto its head and back again, his body gave a sudden jerk, as if all of his muscles wanted him to move but his brain hadn't gotten there yet.

"Coline!" he choked, the robe sliding from his arms "Coline, wait!"

Once he started moving, he was away in a flash - within moments, he'd caught her up, and in another he was in front of her, both hands on her shoulders to halt her progress.

"I'm sorry, little one," he said, pleadingly "I didn't realise it was you. Please, don't run away."

Eyes shutting close upon feeling the pressure upon her shoulders, Coline pushed the drow's arms away and staggered back a few steps, her arms crossing in front of her face as if to shield herself from an impending attack. "I'm sorry! I promise, I won't do it again! I promise!" she cried out all in one breath.

Coline's eyes shot open in shock. It took her a few moments to realize what she'd done. She lowered her arms slowly, straightening her posture, and cleared her throat. "My apologies, Captain. You... startled me." she said, eyes directed anywhere near his.

Jessie stared at her, horror and sadness creasing his face as she pushed him away. Though her tirade didn't make sense to him, he could tell afterwards that it was some instinctive reaction to something she feared tremendously. That something, at the moment at least, was him. The thought felt as if someone had turned his heart to paper and then torn it in two.

He stepped forward, reaching out to cup her face in his hands, as he had done earlier to comfort her. "Coline," he said, gently lifting her face up towards his "Look at me."

Coline no longer showed any signs of protest when the Captain cupped her cheeks, raising her head. He asked for her to look at him and she did, holding the gaze for a few seconds before forcing her head back down with a sigh. "I'm fine, sir. It's nothing important." she reassured, massaging her right temple with her fingers. "Speaking of important, your robe-- Hm?"

Looking down at her hands she furrowed her brow, clearly perplexed. "Where is it...? I could have sworn I brought it with me when I came here..."

The Captain watched her speak in a kind of awe. She was beautiful. The perplexity in her wide eyes, and the soft curve of her cheek... How could he have found her innocence, her frailty - two things which served only to heighten her appeal - repulsive only two hours or so ago?

"Don't fret, my lotha'uss, it's back there," he soothed. Then, however, the oddness of the situation suddenly prickled. His smooth, intent expression was marred by a slight frown. "But... just how did you come about one of my robes?"

As soon as he said it, he remembered - hadn't Lorika fished out one of his underrobes for the Overseer to wear? He'd seen him wearing it earlier, and not thought anything of it. As the thought came to him, he smiled "Oh. The Overseer sent you with it, did he?"

"Huh?" she muttered, looking over her shoulder to see the neglected robe on the floor just by the door. How did that get there? Turning back as the Captain spoke again, still quite disoriented, Coline narrowed her eyes as she pieced things together in her mind. "Ah!" she exclaimed, bringing a hand up to scratch the back of her head. "Yes, yes. The Overseer asked me to--"

Freezing suddenly as she noticed the bareness of the Captain's... surprisingly lean figure, heat rose up to her cheeks yet again. Only to simmer down when she noticed the presence of clothing in the lower region. "Ahah... you have pants on. That's good." Coline mumbled sheepishly, not aware of how horribly wrong she may have sounded.

Evelyn had spent the past two days in heavy mourning over her losing the Overseer, during which she had stumbled to Barton. She had changed her outward appearance to reflect her inner turmoil, slightly from mourning and to fit in with the S.I.N.ners she was now amongst.

She walked past where the Barton Boutique used to stand, and while the building was still there, no one was inside. Ian, as a B.O.O. supporter, had been run out of town. This thought nearly launched her into tears again. So many lives that were ruined by the Overseer’s disappearance—and Evelyn had had him. But she lost him. And now nothing would return to normal. And it was all her fault…

Blinking, Jessie looked down and realised that the robe he had hastily pulled on had somehow come undone while chasing Coline. The material was now gathered like a shawl around his arms, and trailing on the floor. Fortunately, yes, he was wearing trousers.

A flush creeping up his neck, he smoothly lifted the heavy material and wrapped it around himself, saying nothing more about it. The feel of the wet hair against his face suddenly pressed upon him uncomfortably, and the lack of eye patch made him feel exposed and vulnerable.

"Let's go inside, shall we?" he said, trying to keep his voice as even as possible. After a few moments of seeming indecision, he ducked his head and swept past Coline, making to pick up the robe. Once he had done so, he looked back at Coline and gestured reassuringly for her to come with him.

Straightening up and noting her hesitation, he smiled warmly at her, ignoring his discomfort. "Please. I'd be honoured if you'd join me. You know by now that I don't bite."

Appearing to have snapped out of her dazed state Coline regarded the drow's offer with a hesitant stare. She had only planned on giving the robe back and, well, maybe talking a little, but she hadn't anticipated to be invited inside. Needless to say she wasn't prepared for this.

The recruit had intended to politely decline but upon seeing that warm smile, especially after the events that unfolded that morning, how could she possibly say no? She answered with a curt nod and walked over slowly, rubbing the side of her arm to somehow ease herself.
