I think that was mostly a reply to the claim that no Pagan culture approved of homosexuality.
For what it's worth, even the Norsemen were okay with homosexual sex so long as you were giving it rather than taking it. It wasn't so much a taboo about the sex itself but the implication that you were, well, female. Less of a man for it. That is, less likely to take a "manly" or leadership role in other matters. Learning is fun!
