Yep, all the 80's stuff is coming back AGAIN. It seems to attack different generations at different times. Right now at toy stores you can find new versions of Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony, Hello Kitty (but she never really left us), Transformers, and Rainbow Brite. All updated for the young 'uns.
I guess the theory is that the kids who played with those toys are having kids of their own now. Ugh.
Where's Jem and the Holograms? Huh? That crap is expensive on eBay! Am I supposed to be satisfied with Bratz dolls and their weird hips that cant wear pants?
Oops...almost went into a retro toy rant. I'm better now.

I don't mean to darken the mood in here... but we just found out that my husband's (Malheureux on Gaia) father is dying. He has been battling cancer and now he is down to the end. Our nephew told my husband that his father keeps asking for him as he goes in and out of consciousness, it really tears him up. He is going to drop his truck (he drives OTR) and fly out to California right away and I will probibly be leaving from here tomorrow evening. I know he doesn't spend a lot of time in the Geezers Guild, but I would like to ask if anyone is willing to just give him a little comment on his profile. He has never lost anyone close to him before and I can't even be with him at this time to help him threw it.

Thank you

I can understand the toy rant... what is it with the whacked hips on those dolls? And the make-up ~ even Barbie's gotten into the ho-look. On the other hand, at least Barbie has a more realistic body than she once did.

I think Umberella was more complaining about the difficulty of putting pants ON to Bratz dolls. She buys them at garage sales and thrift stores, then fixes them, dresses them and re-sells them on e-bay. I've often seen her in the Krafty Korner of our house muttering and cursing over a pair of stylish doll jeans that Just Will Not Stay and the like.

Is that right, dear?

I used to have that problem with my Barbies. Well, only two of them were Barbies, the other five were generic knock-offs that my mom got at the dollar store.

Heh.

The forgeries were actually prettier and had more realistic body styles. Also, their clothes fit them better. Barbie's clothes wer just impossible! The dippy little velcro fasteners always tangled with her hair. The generic clothes had mini-snaps and fastened very nicely.

~~~
On a side note: I remember this little dog we used to have, Dusty (shi-tzu-westie cross). I used to dress him up in these silly little outfits I had made. He would actually just sit there and wear them--for about five minutes.
Ooh...doggies in costumes!
And, yep. It's like they either sew the dolls into their clothes so you can't undress them or the clothes are some strange Brittney Spears thing that doesn't fit.
AND don't even get me started on Barbie not being able to sit down. The nasty hard plastic jointed robot barbies can sit, but soft plastic Barbie must have her legs broken to be able to sit in a chair. And Ken needs his legs broken and melted at the back of the knees for him to be able to sit down.
I've had to sell my Barbies for rent a few times, so I'm not actually a collector anymore. crying I think I'll live though. I think Barbies are a good gauge on my financial situation. I had over 200 two years ago...now I have three.
awwwww. I was never into Barbies that much. My mom was. eek back in the day, she used to make a little money making barbie clothes,... there was even a store that would sell some her stuff. It was pretty neat. she liked to do period outfits. sigh... they are all long gone now.
It's amazing at what a young age animals can reproduce. Although it seems to me lately, that people are reproducing at younger ages, too... *mutters something about florescent lighting and the human body.*
Man. I'm tired. We just helped with a wedding and my aunt's 75th wedding anniversary. Normally, we'd drive up to Fort Logan and put a tiny bottle of liquor on my Grandpa's grave for Memorial day, but I'm dog tired. Ill do it next week (My grandpa didn't drink all that much anyway, it's just that stunts like that annoyed my grandma, and my Uncle Butch always did that 'till he died last year, so, being the family no-goodnick, I figure it's my job now.)
I remember once, at a family dinner when we flew out to Cali to visit my grandparents, Granddaddy seemingly started chocking on his food. Ruth (gran) started stammering and stuttering, trying to get my uncle's attention, when she realized that she couldn't form words, she grabbed a dinner roll and whipped it at his head.
By this point, Granddaddy was fine--the food was just too hot and he didn't want to be rude and spit it out. Ruth is still stuttering "David, oh, David! David, your father! David!!!" meanwhile, the dinner roll bounced of Uncle Dave's head and landed on the table of a nearby couple (we're at a restaurant). My daddy and I, and Jerry (family friend) are giggling. Mom is already over by Granddaddy with a glass of ice water while Uncle Dave (mom's bro) is staring wildly at Ruth and rubbing his forehead, "Mom?! What the hell?!!"
"Oh, David!"
Jerry finally pipes up, "Somebody bump Grandma, she's stuck."
~~~

True story...sad if you were there, because you'd know that's only a fraction of the dumbassery that took place that evening. I'm surprised the management didn't throw us out. xd
