"Those agents aren't per se better, but I wouldn't be surprised if when you next encounter them, there are Level Twos mucking about. They have a higher level of technology.
"I suppose at this point I need to issue a fair warning: when next you draw them out, you are not going to be coming home for some time, if things go well. I should have mentioned this before, but..." Hades paused. "I can't expect you to do these sorts of things. You people have lives, and you're volunteers. You're just the most ironically abnormal normal people I've got." The explanation was a bit unclear, but a moment of thinking would point out that most of the other agents were indeed a bit... too normal to be normal. Not in this day and age.
"So... who wants in?" Hades asked after a moment longer.

"I'm not even sure what's going on..." Shae murmured.

"Honestly, neither are we. That's why we're asking you to find out," Hades replied.

"If my brain hadn't been rewired to prevent such things, I'd probably have pissed myself from fear twelve times today. I... I have to think about it," Cado replied sincerely. "I can't help but feel that I am - that we are - in way over our heads."

Hades suddenly burst into laughter. "You assume you're the only ones over your head?" he asked, his wavering voice interrupted by laughing and gasping for air. "Oh, heavens. That's pretty funny," he finished, gaining control of himself.
"I think I've done a pretty well job of keeping the fact that we are almost certainly doomed to failure a darned good secret, something I've carried over from our previous leaders. But that's taxing me. Controlling this place is taxing me. Controlling the war is taxing me. I haven't been to the doctor's in ages largely out of fear for what they'd tell me about my blood pressure.
"I've spent a lot of time keeping you in the dark. I've spent this last little while judging your character and considering your competence, and now I intend to allow you people to really understand. The thing is... it won't be easy. There's a good reason I hide the truth., and that's because the truth is painful, demotivating. I think you can handle it, though." Hades leaned in. "I don't want to make you think you're obligated. Everything we've done so far has been completely based on choice. Do you want to learn the truth, or do you want me to keep it to myself?"

"I have not assumed we're the only ones in over our head... sir," Cado replied, drawing himself up to his full height. "We're less coordinated than over Syndicates' agents because we're the only ones with free will instead of a collective control system. We're outnumbered, outgunned. Every other syndicate on this damned planet could crush us if they thought it was worth it."
He went silent for a moment.
"But if I can do something that can help us... that can help our fight... that can bring this world closer to change from the ******** polluted hellhole that it is.... sir, I can do no less. We became agents because we wanted to, for whatever our reasons were, and... I guess what I'm trying to get is...." He took a deep breath and bit his lip.
"I'm in."

Hades nodded, and he could be seen to relax. "Anyone else?"
Alyx began to nod slowly. Cado's decision had given her strength. And it wasn't like she had that much left to be attached to.

Some time before…
Ivan’s bike had pulled up to a rather vacant building. It was in shambles and it didn’t seem like anyone had been there in quite some time. He got off the bike and turned the key in the ignition to off. He walked rather slowly over to another vehicle as two men in the shadows stepped out and walked over to the front of the car. They were not visible, only their silhouettes.
“And the data?”
“It’s here, the money?”
Ivan procured a something small out of his pocket and placed it into the man’s hand. The man turned to another figure in the darkness that had a laptop running and after a few seconds letter and numbers flashed across the screen. He the man gave a nod and the man on the left pulled out a briefcase, opening the latches and showing the currency to Ivan.
“Good, then I’m off.”
“Contact us again when you have the next set. Until then, cling to the shadows, never show mortal men your true face.”
The present…
Ivan stepped out of the darkness, he was back already it seemed. He was a crafty one, always showing up out of nowhere when something sparked his interest. He walked forward towards the back of the group, a slight hint of blood dripping from his nose.
“I don’t care what the truth is, you know I’m in. the fact that I even showed up should tell you I’m dying to hear about this mission.”

Shae regarded Hades steadily as the others nodded or spoke. After Ivan's input, Shae was silent as they looked at him. Finally, he shrugged slightly. "You can count me in, although I prefer my reasons to remain with me."
