Yeah, we have some schools here who are on 2 hour delay because of that forecast of snow that I mentioned earlier in a post somewhere.

I used to wait for the School Bus on my front porch in whatever weather that was happening as well.

I dont know but kids sure arnt as tough as we used to be.

Yeah kids nowadays are a buncha wimps. Omg we sound like our parents. Or maybe our grandparents. lol

That's nice you have a porch. At least it keeps you dry when it rains.

I know I had one of those OMG moments when I posted that as well. ^8^

Its a fairly small concrete porch that was part of the house back when it was a small little General Store for our area. (The House) has one side for Living Arrangements for the Man and Wife that ran it and the other side was the store and Gas Pumps in front.

I managed to find an old pic of our house way back.

I'm so glad you found tht photo. What a great house. I love that kind of country architecture. It looks like somebody's home. Unlike some of the urban or suburban modern ones I see around.

Thx, it took a little while to find it in the middle of all the old pics we have over the years.

It has changed a bit though, the place where the car is is still a parking place, but the yeard in front of the house is grass now (Front Yard) they crushed up the concrete/asphalt and digged new water lines to at the time when they changed it.

Nice that you got some grass out front. It's nice to walk in. And absorbs excess rain better than concrete. But then there's mowing... not so nice when the temps are in the 90s. Fortunately my landlord takes care of that for me
PostPosted: Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:25 am

Yup, only bad thing is the concrete/asphalt was poured rather deep and we still have to dig very hard when we plant things in our yard.

We still get gravel and rocks from the concrete/asphalt when we dig in the yard as well.

Otherwise it does okay, mowing is a pain it is nice your Landlord does that sounds like a nice person.

I wish I had grass in my yard
PostPosted: Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:39 pm

Well grass is both good and bad.

It is nice during summer and spring for barefoot but get to be a pain when it come to mowing (We have hickory nuts fall from the trees into our yard and they are like little bullets when they get run-over by a lawnmower.)

Of course the grass dies down during winter but them its no fun because no Barefoot-ing. crying

Whoa those hickory nut bullets sound painful. Kinda like pebbles that get thrown by a mower. I know about those. Ow my shins.

Could you rake up the nuts before you mow, shell them and eat them? I hate to sound ignorant, but are hickory nuts even edible?
PostPosted: Sun Jan 10, 2010 12:05 pm

Yup, the are they get shot everywhere when they get mowed.

Yup, but I am never home enough now and my parents are just way to lazy to do the raking.

They are edible they are good to eat just have to catch them at the right time when they are dryed out and not rotten yet. Then all you have to do is have something to take the nut out of the shell, perhaps a good knife blade with a sharp point.

Interesting. I never ate a hickory nut. Since y'all aren't interested in gathering them, maybe you need more squirrels (and less hunters) in the area. Squirels are such industrious creatures.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 11, 2010 1:50 pm

They are okay, they tend to dry a person out if you dont have something to drink when you eat them. Do not eat a rotten one either there are worms and grubs in the rotten ones.

We have some of those sgurrils, they sometimes eat them but the trees are so close to the road that they often dont get out to the Hickory trees but every now and again and still 3 or 4 in thier cheecks.

That's so cute that squirrels stuff their cheeks with the hickory nuts.

Um, photobucket has devoured your house. How rude!
