"It would take quite a lifetime," Aragost replied softly, slowing his pace so that the children could keep up. "There is no end to the possibility of experiences one might have in this world ... or any, I am certain. Even I, old as I am, am continually experiencing new things, and expect to continue to do so for as long as I live."

Lin wondered if she found another partner in crime, she always did enjoy talking with Shiro. When she could understand his words that is.

"But it would be very interesting," she added.

An interesting lifetime of experience.

Suddenly, Ura tugged on Shiro's hand and pointed up the slope a bit, drawing the neko's attention to something that he had seen.

Shiro's sharp eyes followed the demon's finger, and he grinned cattily up at Adan and Aragost.

"Is that the cave, up there?" he asked, pointing alongside Ura now.

It was nothing more than a very dark - darker than normal - spot between some rocks and trees, nearly hidden by leaves and branches.

"Good eyes!" Adan grinned. "Yup, that's it! It's more seeable now than it was when me and Ahren found it, we opened it up a bit since we kept going in there so much."

"Ahren and I," Aragost corrected Adan automatically, his tone soft and patient, as though he had gone through the same thing many times already.

"Aye," Adan grinned, climbing up the slope and using his hands for support.

Lin copied Adan, knowing the drill at this point, she hadn't spotted the cave until Ura pointed it out. She could kind of make it out, but her focus was more climbing up without tripping first.

Shiro and Ura had no trouble at all with lowering themselves to their hands and feet and shimmying up the mountainside like animals. Shiro, after all, was part cat, and though his feline instincts were not nearly as strong as his brother Kaito's, that didn't mean that he couldn't be catty when he needed to be.

Ura on the other hand was just plain ... Shiro-like. Frighteningly so. He hopped from rock to log to round as nimbly as any cat that might have lived in the area its entire life.

At long last, Adan scrambled up over the top of the tiny ledge and turned and looked at the others triumphantly.

"Come on!" he urged them. "You're almost here, you can do it!"

And without waiting for the others, he turned and headed into the cave, disappearing from sight almost immediately in the blackness.

Aragost was right behind him, and he sighed, then held out one hand and murmured softly to himself. A glowing ball of light appeared over his hand, and, holding it out in front of himself, he crawled into the opening in the mountainside.

"Hey!" Lin called out as she heaved herself up.

She peered into the cave, it would have been pitched black if it weren't for the light that Aragost had created. Which she couldn't help but look at in interest for a moment before looking back into the cave.

A few steps into the cave, Adan mimicked Aragost's actions, and within seconds there was a glowing ball of light resting lightly in his own hand. It illuminated the cave around him, showing a wide tunnel - wide enough for ten people to walk side-by-side, and twice Aragost's height - with light gray rock fading into the distance.

"Come on," he grinned at the others behind him. "But don't be too noisy, you might scare the bats."

"Bats?" Shiro repeated curiously, climbing up with Ura and poking his head into the cave.

He had read up on bats since discovering that his wings were most like bats' wings of any natural creature, and he had since been anxious to see one for real.

"Be careful, Shiro," Ura warned softly, his yellow eyes turning seriously towards his older brother.

Curious, Lin looked up for a moment to see if she could spot a bat. Though in truth she had never seen one, she only knew of them since that was how Shiro's and any demon's wings were describe like. After a moment she looked back ahead of her, so she wouldn't run into something.

"Are they sleeping?"

Adan nodded and stepped aside to wait for everyone to come into the cave - because while the inside was quite large, the entrance was very small indeed. Aragost had to get down on his hands and knees to crawl through it.

"They sleep during the day, I don't know about at night," he admitted. "But they come out when the sun starts going down for eating ... it's not fun to be here then."

He shuddered slightly, then held his light up and beckoned for the others to come closer. "Come on."

Shiro and Ura had no trouble looking up and seeing the bats that were hanging from the roof of the cave: with their cat eyes, the small lights in Adan and Aragost's hands were more than sufficient to light up the entire area for them to see.

And what they saw was impressive.

"There has to be millions of them!" Shiro exclaimed softly, his tone filled with awe. "They're everywhere!"

"Everywhere ..." Ura echoed in a murmur.

Thinking about how many bats could possibily in this cave she would imagine not. It was a wonder in how they, the bats could see at all in this dark cave. She wasn't well read on animals as some people. She followed closely, wondering if Adan had been in the cave when they woke up.

Adan peered past Shiro and Ura at Lin, then stretched out his arm and held the glowing orb out to her.

"Here, take it," he smiled at her. "I can make another one, and it's dangerous in here if you can't see what's around you."
