"The pains of status ailments." Mike said somewhat under his breath. He hated them when they were used against him, but he understood their power in swaying the balance of matches. One well placed Toxic or Stun Spore could turn an entire battle on its back. Figuring he might as well not waste any more time, Mike nodded once again to his Pokemon. An all out offensive strategy wouldn't be too risky now. His opponent was practically frozen stiff as it is.
Portabello felt sorry for Scizor, she always tried so hard and he had reduced her to nothing more than a giant metal statue. But he knew that if she was mobile that she would give the battle nothing short of her all. Far be it from me to disrespect a fellow warrior with hesitation! The Breloom broke out into a run, holding his arms up. He brought a glowing claw down and thrust it upward, performing a Sky Uppercut on his immobilized foe.

His hands tensed. He turned his head to look away, ignoring the cry of pain his Scizor emitted. He could tell from the sound of shattering metal that it definitely was a critical hit. The crowd around him set out a small amount of applause for Portabello. "Yeah, yeah." He kept his head away as he recalled Scizor then surveyed his options. There was the chance he could obliterate Breloom with an Explosion via Weezing, but that would mean he'd lose.
"Alright. You may say brute force never works, but you haven't battled Lairon yet!" Kilik pushed the ball off his belt downward, giving it a kick as it fell. His foot pressed the button and it burst open in the sky. The Great Ball flew back to his hand, which he caught effortlessly. Kilik swore he heard someone let out a low whistle. "Take Down!" he barked. Lairon emerged from the ball midair, his eyes burning with desire to win. The behemoth came barreling down from the sky and lowered his head. He was definitely on a collision course.

The already-large Pokemon seemed to grow even larger, and its single pair of arms quickly became two. All four hands formed tight fists as its body grew more muscular. When the light faded, a rather powerful Machamp was looking down at Kasiya, grinning broadly. It was obvious that he was very pleased with his new form.
"Congratulations," she said warmly, smiling back up at the large Pokemon. It was then that she realized she didn't own any Fighting-type Pokemon of her own. The Machamp just made a noise that sounded like laughter and lifted the girl up with its four powerful limbs, hugging her and dancing around a bit. Kasiya laughed out loud, feeling quite happy with the situation. Finally, the Machamp put her down and Kasiya was able to recall him. "I look forward to battling you guys again someday," Kasiya said as she placed the Pokeball on the tray.
"Ditto," Mark said, having marveled at his Pokemon's new form. He placed Seto's Pokeball on the opposing tray and pulled the lever once again, and after a few moments the process was reversed. Kasiya took her Persian's Pokeball in her hands and held it tightly. Even though it had only been for a few moments, she had missed her Pokemon dearly. "Where are you heading now?" she asked, after clipping the Pokeball back on her belt. She had another sip of her root beer, thinking that perhaps buying a bottle this late in the evening was a bad idea.
"We're going to continue our training," Mark said quickly. "We've got a long way to go if we plan to accomplish anything, and being beaten by you again has shown me that." He finished his own soda and put the bottle in the receptacle for recyclables.
Kasiya scoffed a bit, feeling her cheeks redden. "Even I still have a lot to learn," she admitted. "I'm far from where I want to be as a trainer. Far, far, far, far away." Mark just nodded, and adjusted the belt that held his own Pokeballs. Kasiya could see a fifth Pokeball, and one empty slot. She wanted to ask what other Pokemon he had, but decided to change her mind. "Oh yeah, there's a Beach Party in Slateport on Saturday. Me and my friends will be there. You can come and join us if you want to," she said, already having forgotten just how much of a jerk he had previously been to her, but then again Kasiya held a grudge like a sieve held water.
"We'll see," was all Mark said in reply. He looked around, making sure he hadn't left anything behind before he nodded at Kasiya. "Well, I'm out of here. Take care of yourself," he said, giving a slight wave before he stepped outside.

"Woah woah there boy!" Mike said as Kilik not only sent out his next Pokemon, but ordered an attack. "Your Pokemon has barely left its ball and you're already attacking. Talk about reckless!" The boy once again clicked his tongue accusingly at his friend, looking to the crowd around him with a look reading: 'can you believe this guy?' Mike laughed with the audience, then looked to his Pokemon, a rush of adrenaline surging through his veins as he commanded his Pokemon. "Portabello, stop that Lairon in its tracks. Catch it!"
The Breloom swung his head back, shooting his trainer a look of utter confusion. Catch it!? He replied, his mouth uncharacteristically agape as he turned to face the charging Pokemon. Rarely was he shaken up about a battle, and against this kind of an opponent he would be cool as a cucumber, but his trainer's directions made him feel extremely vulnerable. This was ludicrous. Not only was the mere thought of putting himself in danger with a stupid maneuver like that completely irresponsible, but his trainer even broke the protocol of using the telepathy tactic to keep Kilik in the dark. He violently shook his head, hoping that the command would somehow make more sense after jarring his brain. Well, it didn't. Portabello sighed as he raised his arms and opened his hands, spreading his right leg out behind him as he closed his eyes and braced for impact.
The opposing Pokemon hit like what the Breloom could only assume like a train in the face with a steel boxing glove welded to the front would feel. The impact alone was jarring enough, and the smooth metallic plating made it very hard to maintain a grip on Lairon's head-plate. Portabello let out a pained grunt and opened his eyes, glaring at the Lairon as he practically ground his beak together. His opponent's eyes were focused, but had a sort of brutish and barbaric ferocity to them. He felt himself being pushed along the ground, his long red claws tearing apart the ground as the two Pokemon traveled along. Portabello clawed frantically, trying to keep a grip onto the Steel Pokemon while looking behind him as soon as he had a steady grip. To his horror, as soon as he looked behind him he was greeted with a wooden fence, which shattered effortlessly as the Breloom was pushed through and then slammed into a large pine tree. The tree cracked, the base of it nearly exploding into an array of splinters.
It all happened in an instant. Mike had no time to react as his Pokemon was just shoved fifty feet into a tree. "Oh my god!" He screamed, his just then pompous flair evaporating into one of genuine concern. He ran closer, breathing frantically as he berated himself for his actions. "What was I thinking!?" He smacked himself in the head, drowning out the crowd's random comments. "I was too concerned with looking cool that I made a stupid, stupid, stupid move!" He looked with terrified caution at the two long and deep parallel tracks in the dirt leading to the pile of debris where Portabello just was. A tear began to roll down his cheek as the dust began to settle. I'm so sorry Portabello... He fell to his knees.
Worry not master. A quiet and very strained voice played in the boy's mind, and to his overwhelming joy, Portabello rose from the attack, his body completely covered in splinters and bloody marks. I'm not dead yet. The Breloom looked at his trainer, clearly disoriented. At least... He laughed. You learned something. Taking a very labored step forward, Portabello faltered and fell to the ground. He weakly clawed at the ground and looked up at the Lairon. You win this round beast, but rest assured. Next time you won't be nearly be so lucky. You can...count on...that. With that, he fainted.
Mike let out a heavy sigh and recalled his Pokemon. He would beat himself up later. "Well," He began, adding in a slightly nervous chuckle. "It appears that I'm not yet in a position where I can be dishing out advice." The boy turned his head in shame. "I'm sorry for acting like an a**." He looked around at his audience, a mix of sympathy and guilt played on their faces. "I guess I just lost it in the heat of all this attention and pressure." Mike took out his last Pokemon, tossing an Ultra Ball out onto the field. Surprisingly, Beacon was released. The Light Pokemon looked around in confusion, somewhat dimly taking note of the huge path of destruction that lay no less than a few steps to his left...or was it his right?
"Let's get this train-wreck back on track. Beacon, show them your Thunderbolt!" Mike commanded, his voice still a bit weak from the lump in his throat.
Beacon looked around for the target in which he was supposed to hit, but only saw Mike's spiky friend. The Ampharos waved happily to Kilik, letting out a shrill croon. As he greeted Mr. Spiky a bright light stung his eyes. Beacon looked to his left...right, no, left and noticed a very mean looking shiny thing. "Bad!" screamed the Pokemon as he blasted a Thuderbolt towards the unknown scary thing.
Mike sighed, smiling weakly. Thank god what he attacked was Lairon and not someone's car or something.

Kilik watched the attack happen completely silent. Once Breloom had come into contact with Lairon, he crossed his arms and kept watching. His eyes followed the two Pokemon as the battle escalated to a point that he was starting to feel slightly uncomfortable. He shifted a bit in his shoes and looked away as Mike recalled Portabello. Lairon unleashed a mighty roar at his felled foe, though he did take heed to the Breloom's warning. However, he was certain that the next time they'd face, he'd be much stronger. The moment of victory was short lived, for as he began to turn around, he came face to face with a Thunderbolt. Electricity surged his body and he loosed a roar of pain. He planted his paws into the ground and roared once more, the lightning practically shattering off his body.
Fighting against Beacon is risky, Kilik thought, glancing from one Pokemon to the other. He's so topsy-turvy that I can't read him. Let's hope a bit of strategy will go a long way. A toothy smirk appeared on his lips. "I hope you brought your Go-Goggles, ladies and gents! I certainly forgot mine!" In a flash, he swept his arm to his backpack and pulled out his old white coat and wrapped it around his neck. "Lairon, whip up a Sandstorm! Let's utilize your new attack!" With the command issued, Kilik raised the coat over his nose and mouth to make somewhat of a mask.
Lairon buckled down and dug his claws into the soil. Large clumps of dirt began to float up around him and slowly began to break apart. With an almost hissing noise, Lairon moved forward towards Beacon. Activating this new move was going to take a little bit. His body shook and his pupils seemed smaller than normal. The Pokemon grit it's teeth and sand began to seep out of the holes in his head piece. A roar echoed through the city, and in a flash all of the dirt, sand and soil erupted from around Lairon in a violent sandstorm. Beneath his mask, Kilik smirked.

Kasiya watched him leave, then sat down on one of the plush chairs nearby. "That was interesting," she murmured, taking Ada's Pokeball from her belt and releasing the little Larvitar. She materialized in front of her trainer, looking incredibly sleepy. "Oh, I woke you up, I'm sorry," Kasiya cried, dropping to the floor to hug the exhausted little Pokemon. Ada shrugged it off though, happy to receive the attention from her trainer. "I wanted to give you this before I forgot," she said, taking the Hard Stone and placing it around the Larvitar's neck. "It'll make your Rock-type attacks stronger," she explained after Ada looked up at her in confusion. Ada gave a toothy grin at this, examining the item she now held. Somehow she understood just how it worked, like it had been made just for her. Kasiya gave her Pokemon one more hug before recalling her and heading back outside. It was very late now, and Kasiya yawned and stretched as she walked back towards Keegan's house.
As she approached she could see a single light on in the house upstairs, and she wondered if it were coming from Keegan's room. Was he still awake, and waiting for her to come back safely? She smiled at the thought as she slipped inside and carefully removed her shoes. After placing them on the shoe rack so they wouldn't be tripped over later, she quietly moved though the house, wondering if this is how other kids felt when they snuck back home after sneaking out of the house earlier in the night. At one point she tripped over a chair and nearly went head-first into the kitchen counter, but she recovered and managed to find the stairs. She crept up them as quietly as she could (although she knew by now that someone had to know she was there) and found the bathroom, where she cleaned up and slipped into a cool nightgown. Lavaridge was still stifling, even at night and she was thankful she had packed it before leaving Vermilion earlier that day.

Hm, so this is the move that Kilik bought at the store. Mike thought, a bit worried. Beacon's attacks were already lacking in the accuracy department, and this would certainly complicate things. Not to mention, Sandstorm was just a tricky tactic in general. Mike took in a deep somewhat sigh-like breath and closed his eyes as the initial rush of sand crashed into him. Once again his friend had managed to completely mess him up, his recently wet body now covered in a thick layer of dust. "I hate you Kilik." Mike said, his voice swallowed by the loud hiss of the Sandstorm.
Mike heard a loud cry from inside the raging whirlwind of sand. "Beacon!" He cried out. He could only imagine what his easily spooked Ampharos was feeling at the sudden change in surroundings.
True enough, Beacon was in the eye of the storm, infrequently peeking out in a panic when he wasn't huddled down and cowering at the loud noises. He felt as if the sandy walls were closing in to swallow him whole, and he didn't want to be eaten! The Ampharos screamed, holding his head between his flippers. Then he heard something, something familiar, his trainer's voice! The sandstorm causing Mike's voice to swirl around the Ampharos. This made Beacon feel safe, like his trainer was all around him, making sure he was safe. The Light Pokemon stood up, a sudden surge of confidence swelling up inside of him. Looking around, he noticed a little rift in the sandstorm, something that could very well be the mean shiny that made this attack. With a high pitched cry, Beacon practically exploded in electrical energy, sending a tremendous shockwave of thunderbolts that flared out in all directions.

As interesting as the book was, Keegan found himself rereading the same few lines over and over, and finally he gave up and let the book come to rest on his chest. He stared up at the white ceiling of his room and sighed, unable to figure out why he was wide awake. Sure, he was tired, but sleep was one of those things that never did come easily to him. He cast a lazy glance towards the soundly sleeping Vulpix and shook his head. "Show-off," he mumbled. He lay like that for some time, just staring up at the ceiling and trying to figure out why he couldn't sleep.
Sometime later he heard the distinctive sound of a crash coming from downstairs and at once he knew Kasiya had returned (How did he know for sure? Anyone else in his family would have known to avoid that chair). He wasn't sure just how much time had passed but he hadn't been expecting her back so quickly. For some strange reason, he lied back and shut his eyes, pretending to be asleep. He heard the sounds of her coming up the stairs and then going into the bathroom, yet he kept his eyes squeezed shut. He didn't have any real idea why he was pretending to be asleep, but now that he'd started, it seemed stupid to stop right away.

Kasiya peeked into Keegan's room, not wanting to wake him if he had fallen asleep. It seemed as if he had fallen asleep while reading, and she smiled a bit and sighed. She carefully made her way into the room and picked up the book, finding a small slip of paper she could use as a bookmark and placed it inside. She set the book on the night table near the bed. I guess he really did mean for me to have the bed, she thought, feeling a little flutter in her heart as she looked down at him. "Who said chivalry is dead?" she asked quietly, leaning down and gently kissing him on the cheek. She paused as she went to pull back and smirked - she'd seen him start to smile, and she realized then he wasn't really sleeping. His breathing wasn't rhythmic enough for him to be asleep, and before she could stop herself, she gently poked him in the ribs, trying to stifle a giggle.

Serenity and George continued down route 102. Both were keeping a rather slow pace. Serenity didn't want to miss anything on her way, and the mudkip shared it's trainer's enthusiasm for things and areas that were new. The two of them kept a close eye on grass that was around to see if there was any shuffling to indicate a wild pokemon in the vacinity.
"Maybe we can catch a friend or two before we get to the gym." Serenity said to George. "I'd hate to have you take on the whole gym all by yourself."
George really hadn't given much thought about taking other pokemon into the gym. If he was completely honest he wouldn't mind trying to take out the gym leader all by himself. It would be wonderful to brag about to the other pokemon when they returned home. He had to admit though a few more pokemon on the trip would be nice. He had gotten so used to having so many different friends to talk to and play with. George thought the world of his trainer but she was a bit loopy.
"Who is that over there?" The two of them heard a voice coming from the left of them.
"Over where exactly?" Serenity called out. She was looking around trying to find where the voice was coming from. A young man came out of the grass with a large smile on his face.
"Oh good I was starting to get a bit board." He said. He looked her and the mudkip up and down with his dark brown eyes. "One pokemon eh? Must be a new trainer like me. Anyway, it looks like we're evenly matched would you care to battle?"
Serenity looked down at George who was with out a doubt ready to try out this whole battling thing. He started bouncing excitedly. "Sure." Sere said quietly. She tried to make her cheeks stop blushing. 'People are so scary sometimes!'

"Well are you ready to go here George? First battle." Sere was down on her knees whispering to her pokemon. George himself let out a high pitched "KIP KIP!" to let her know that he was more than ready to get the party started.
"We're ready to go when you are." She said to the nice young man that had approaced her. Sere hoped that her words hadn't all run together like they sometimes do when she talked to new people.
"I'm ready and set." He said. He removed the pokeball from the notch on his belt and pressed the button on the top. There was a flash of bright light and from the light appeared a small rock type pokemon which Sere instantly recognized as a Geodude. 'Well we have type advantage at least.' She thought. The Geodude flexed and let out a growl to show that it was ready for battle. George's response was to let out a tiny chirp.
"Alright Tony lets start out with your defence curl." The trainer said to his Geodude. The rock pulled its arms in and curled it's self into a tight little ball, which then started to glow. When the glow faded it returned to it's normal stance, still emitting some sort of shininess to it. Or so Serenity thought anyway.
"Okay George lets get this started, see if you can go take a bite out of that defence of his." She said to the mudkip which looked back at her as though she had gone completely nuts. How was he suposed to bit something that was as hard as that? Either way he took off in the direction of the rock.
While the Geodude had managed to miss most of the oncoming attack George managed to sink his teeth into the bicep of the pokemon. The pokemon growled a new high pitched growl and struggled to shake George free. After a few shakes the mudkip finally let go and then put himself back into place for the next attack.

Probably the last thing in the world Keegan was expecting then was to get poked in the ribs, so naturally it came as a bit of a shock. Making some sort of strange yelping noise he bolted upright, twitching and flailing. "Is that any way to treat someone when they're sleeping?" he asked a bit sheepishly, rubbing the offending spot. Helios had been woken up quite abruptly and he shot the two a dirty look before standing up, stretching, turning around and going back to sleep. Keegan just laughed at the Vulpix and sighed, stretching a bit as he looked at Kasiya. For some reason, he hadn't been expecting to see her wearing a nightgown and he smiled a bit, deciding to keep his comments to himself for now. "So you're in for the night then?" he asked, lying back and trying to get comfortable. It was odd, but now that she was back safe and sound he felt a lot more like he could actually go to sleep this time.

"You were not sleeping," Kasiya said accusingly, but quickly burst into a fit of giggles. "Oh, sorry, Helios," she added, a little sorry they had disturbed the Vulpix. "We'll try to be quieter." She turned her attention back to Keegan and suddenly she realized he was shirtless. Blushing a little she turned away, recalling the last time he'd been without a shirt was at the hospital, back after he'd been burned by Mitsu's Houndoom, Sapphire. He'd been very shy and modest then, but she figured it may have been because they weren't quite as close as they are now. Out of the corner of her eye, she studied the scar on his arm, and winced. It still looked kind of red and somewhat fresh, and she found herself somehow unable to look away from it. "Yeah, I'm pretty tired now," she said, nodding slowly. She sighed, and glanced at Helios for a second before looking back at Keegan. "Your arm, it never really did heal, did it?" she asked, shifting a bit closer to him, yet refraining from reaching out to touch the mark. Her expression was twisted into a bit of a frown, and she sighed, closing her eyes. The last thing she ever wanted was to see her friends get hurt.

Kilik squinted into the storm, then closed his eyes. For just a moment, he figured out where Lairon was before cutting off his link. A sharp pain went through his chest. To do that without getting exhausted would be nice... he thought. He wanted to get this over with, but the only move Lairon knew that would be super effective against Beacon was the less-than-stellar Mud Slap. However, he bit his tongue and went for it. "Attack using Mud Slap! Aim for the eye of the storm!"
Sure, it was easy for him to say. He wasn't the one being zapped halfway to kingdom come. The beast roared into the storm, causing the echo to swirl around his 'caged' foe. His body tensed up from the unknown Electric attack, but he managed to stave off the Paralysis and smash his foot into the ground. A massive amount of dirt, mud, and rocks shot forward into the storm, aimed for the frightened Ampharos.

The heavy deep chested roar from Lairon circled around Beacon, drowning out the familiar and calming voice of his trainer and replacing it with monstrous noise. The Ampharos ducked down, whimpering at all the loud echoing sounds around him. Obviously, all the cowering made it impossible for him to dodge the large clump of mud that sprayed all over him. It hurt. Beacon yelled out again and rubbed his eyes, he couldn't see!
The Lavaridge boy ordered another Thunderbolt, but watched as he heard a loud holler, and saw a large bolt of electricity shoot skyward, almost blasting a flock of Spearow. "Oh boy," Mike said with a sigh. "Looks like I won't be winning this one." He glanced over at the closest member of the crowd, a little girl of no less than 8 years and just shrugged. "Win some, lose some." The boy said with a laugh, the turnout was to be expected, but it didn't stop him from feeling a bit sour. He's so lucky I didn't embarrass him by sending out Nitro or Shiver. He scoffed and crossed his arms, next time he'd really cream him. He had a reputation to build after all.
