Kimiko's ears perked up slightly as the radio's all went off in unison, though they didn't need them to see the sudden chaos erupting at the far end of the village. From the rooftops they could see the conflict beginning in the distance, Kimiko's blood seemingly on fire as the promise of battle called to her. Her hands rose to grip the hilt of her mother's sword behind her back. So...it was really happening... the village was really under attack...

"Attention Team Four, your deployment's been changed." Xenon frowned slightly as he looked down at the device hung at his waist, his chakra flowing into his eyes almost unconsciously as they began to give off their purely cosmetic glow. It was merely a sign of him preparing himself...his signal that he too was steeled for the coming battle...no...the coming war. "Team Captain Dash and Raine Tekkenseisei, you will fall to the center of the main way and hold your ground at ANY cost! The Tekkenseisai's abilities are paramount here, you are NOT to give them a single inch until the civilians have been taken to safety! Chuunin Momoe and Maboroshi, we could use your synergy at the front on this one, stat. Your mission is to route the enemy. No prisoners. The Otokage has declared a state of emergency...we're at war."

Xenon and Kimiko shared looks before taking a step towards the front, a moment of hesitation taking them both as they looked back at their teammates.

Xenon's farewell was a silent thing. He didn't need words to convey his meaning. As one who hardly ever showed his true emotions, hiding all behind a facade, the honesty in his eyes was enough. He wished them the best, hoped for their safety...and if they needed him, they were some of the few people in this world he would unconditionally inconvenience himself for. He gave nod, and jumped off over the rooftops towards the battle...

Kimiko was very different from her friend in many ways. But in some others, they were exactly the same. While Kimiko Momoe would go out of her way to help strangers, would fight for love and justice and all that made this world a place worth fighting for, the two people standing there were two of the people she would be selfish for, two of the people that she would protect over the greater good of others. They were two of her closest friends...and with a encouraging smile and "Good luck. Let's show these guys who they're messing with!" she said all that she needed to say. With a leap she followed alongside Maboroshi, the pair of them falling into expressions of iron. While Raine had been gone, the pair had been on many a mission together. They'd faced numerous challenges and threats along the way.

Though neither would admit it, with all the bonds that tied them together: their friendship, their status as teammates, their respect for one another as Shinobi, and all the times they'd faced danger at one another's side, they were, to each other, the person closest to them, whether either acknowledged it or not. As they charged towards the conflict it wasn't hard to see why the two would soon have a reputation all their own...

It wasn't hard to see why that day two shinobi would fight with everything they had. It wasn't hard to see why two teenagers would soon become two of the most feared Criminals under the Otobe's reign...

It wasn't hard. But arrogance and the tides of battle do much to blind one from the truth...and despite how easy it was to see...the Mercenaries of the first charge had no idea what was about to hit them...

Xenon and Kimiko, followed closely in the shadows by Xenon's Summon Spirit, made their way over the roof tops at frightening speed, their eyes all set towards the growing conflict, Xenon speaking as they drew close. "Kimiko, make your Shadow clones now, Medusa, fall back and wait for an opportune moment to strike, keep a sky convergence ready.

"Yes, Xenon-sama." Medusa gave a small bow of her head, before jumping off in another direction.

"Right!" Kimiko likewise affirmed, adrenaline rushed through her veins as the chakra within her coursed with light. This would quite possibly be the most dangerous battle they'd ever faced...there was no room for hesitation. They were fighting for their home...they're very way of life. They couldn't show weakness in this battle...they couldn't fail. For all her life she'd wanted to be a Hero...a heroine worthy of protecting the people and things she cared about...this was her moment to prove it... this was her moment to show everyone what she was capable of... "Kage Bushin no JUTSU!" the Jutsu she'd attained from Hatchi's scrolls those years ago had become second nature to her now, one of her greatest weapons, aside from her swords themselves. their a brief explosion of smoke around her, and suddenly four Kimiko's were running adjacent to Maboroshi, their eyes each as convicted as the last.

Beside them Xenon gave the slightest of smirks, his own golden eyes turned ahead. The Ninja would had seen the smoke, their was no element of surprise here, there was nothing but open war...there was nothing but battle ahead. While he himself was a more skill oriented Shinobi, one bent towards assassination and Mis-direction, he was also a warrior, a soon to be Jounin of the village hidden in the sound. And he wasn't going to stop for anything...

What was the old phrase... Cry havoc, and set loose the dogs of war...

Yes. That summed up his emotions on the matter quite nicely.


BATTLE COMMENCE



The advancing Rogue ninja were amidst the frothing battalion of mercenaries as they charged down the lane of the village, following orders to only put down direct opposition. This was a take over, not an invasion. The village was to be in one piece when they finished... it was one of the highest points lined in their contracts. The three rogue ninja, far more attune then the mercenaries however, suddenly darted their gaze to the rooftops above.

"Incoming Shinobi!!!" Shouted one to the left, though he wasn't heard over the roars and cries of the other men, the three alone as they faced the new threat. The good news was they looked young, genin of two years he would guess, the worst case scenario they were fresh chuunin. This would be easy enough. The clone jutsu might fool some, but...

But... the rogue nin's eyes widened. He couldn't tell the the difference, which one was real... they were probably fresh chuunin then, still, this wouldn't pose a problem, they were outnumbered...he gave a smirk, and outmatched. the rogue nin readied their kunai, one merely jumping into the air to face them head on, as at last the soldiers all around saw the incoming attackers...even if it was too late.

Like the wind the rogue nin set loose their kunai, the blades cutting through the darkness nearly invisible to the untrained eye...but Xenon Maboroshi was far from untrained. With a mere flicker the first Kunai passed him by, the second merely whizzing passed without fear of hitting him. Even as he desended from the roof tops, near sixty opponents down on the street below, Xenon showed nothing of fear, his hands merely setting themselves rapidly through a series of hand signs, small volts of lightning coursing over the surface of his form.

Kimiko's clone evaded the barrage with equal finesse, sweeping about the first in mid air and escaping the second with a flicker of the Shunshin. Even as the third Rogue nin rose up to meet them, fists large and set to attack, his chose target merely weaved circles about him, twin flickers leaving the man bypassed he turned his head about with a small smirk. That must have been the real one then, clones couldn't use jutsu. She'd tipped her hand. Be even as he sprung himself back off a wall of the nearby building, flinging himself after the girl, Kimiko and her clones were preforming maneuvers of their own. One, the one he had attacked, spring-boarded of the back of another, the other three catching an awning with their feet and springing back up unto the walls of the buildings lining the street, sticking to them with their chakra as they all began to form hand signs...

The attack was swift, it was merciless, and it showed unequivocaly just how far the two ninja had come since their time as academy students. It had been three years now since they had truly put themselves into their craft...truly put themselves on the path to becoming warriors. Perhaps it was genius, each in their own way, that had allowed them to come so far, so quickly, perhaps it was drive...an unequaled will to become the most powerful Shinobi they could be...

Whatever the reason, the front wave of the assault that had been deployed to take this road to the center of the village was given in it's final curtain...as lightning and fire fell upon them.

Xenon's glasses seemed to sheen over in the glare of the lightning now coursing in his hand, the erratic shifting current of his chakra cutting into the earth as his hand signs finished, and his attack carved into the street. "Raiton:..." the air seemed to fall still for but a single moment, an infinitesimal piece of time. They simply weren't fast enough, they simply couldn't...get away. "Raishindou."

Lightning roared across the street below as bolts ripping across the pavement cut through every soul within their elevation. Screams and chaos were swift, but most never even had time to scream. A storm of radical chakra exploded forth, Xenon at it's epicenter, and in what seemed mere moment the cracked and seared pavement was covered in the charred corpses of the mercenaries, Xenon kneeling hand still touched to the ground as a few stray volts licked between his fingers. Xenon's face was impassive at first, a emotionless wall showing nothing but an intense regard to the sight before him...but even as he stood, his motions still moving at a pace faster then that what a normal human could keep up with, his face slowly melted into his easy going smile.

The Rogue nin caught by the attack lay twitching amongst the corpses, unable to move, their muscles and nervous systems refusing to obey. It had all happened so...fast. The sheer power of the attack overwhelmed them...this was not the jutsu of a genin...nor even a fresh Chuunin. The Element of lightning in itself was notorious difficult to control, taking far more chakra then any of the others... even in the few moments they had to think...it was impossible to conceive that a child, a boy who looked no older then 15, would be capable of something like this... the shinobi world...was truly a terrifying place...

Xenon's limber form didn't halt just yet however, his fluid change in stance taking no more then the blink of an eye to a civilian, in yet another moment his wrists and flicked. as the tell tale gleam of senbon rested between his fingers. Still, though he could easily stage a further attack, he merely stopped after single shift of his weight. Now Xenon Maboroshi was still, a rather relaxed little smile on his face as he merely turned his golden eyes upon the fallen two shinobi. The moment ended, Xenon standing unperturbed amidst the mass of enemy corpses, nearly the entire battalion wiped out in a single attack...

"Hn" he gave the smallest of subdued chuckles, something altogether unsettling about the air around him now. "...you didn't really think it was going to be that easy...did you?"

Fear shook the very insides of the rogue ninja, even the one above merely looking down at the sight he had so narrowly avoided by engaging the girl with a sort've abstract horror. There...there was no way...what...just what the hell was this kid?! It was like a second Kyojin...! One moment they'd been leading an assault and the next...nothing but bodies, charred broken forms upon the streets of the village they'd so recklessly charged...

These two...they had to be. These weren't just any kids...they had to be the infamous young prodigies of the hidden Sound...the rather often discussed Team 4. But this...this was beyond what they'd been imagining. True they'd heard the rumors...a bright young trio of kids that were said to be above their peers, fresh young ninja led by Twin blades Dash... but now, only now, was the reality before them. Even as the ninja above saw the girl spring back off one of her clones, something that would have been impossible with a normal bushin, he wondered how many before him had sorely underestimated them... He knew though, as he stared down that those bodies, as the girl in the white coat drew one of the swords strapped behind her with a flash, that they would most certainly be the last this day... word of this battle would carry across the nations no matter which way it went...and the devastation that these two were about to bring upon those who attempted to pass them by... even as the sword drew close to him, he knew that it would remembered...

Names would be forged this day. Names built upon the deaths of those below... names made amidst the violent convolutions of battle...

Kimiko's clone had spring boarded off the back of one of the other clones, leaping back up towards the attacker which she had nimbly shunshined about merely seconds before, the roar Maboroshi's Raishindou lit the street below. The girl having seen it earlier that very day during the sparring match against Raine, and many more times before that during their missions together, she knew all to well the sight that would await it's completion. The attack left very little in it's vicinity undamaged, the only viable hope to jump above before it discharged. For Maboroshi to use it on a crowd of soldiers... but she knew that was what this war meant... it was merely a show of just how far Xenon was willing to go in this battle. Their orders in wartime had been to show no quarter...and Kimiko understood. She too...was willing to go the distance in this fight. These men were trying to break the peace of the people of Otogakure...to crush the dreams of so many, merely to line their own pockets, to sate their lust for battle...

It was... nigh unforgivable. At least, in this moment. In this moment it was enough of a reason for her to show them no mercy. For the people of the village, for the sake of her dreams and the dreams of all those she cared for... her blades would be set loose...and they would not hold back...

It was over very quickly. Kimiko's Shadow clone broke the man's feeble guard with little effort, the hilt of her sword sweeping past his defense mid air before, with an eye cheating twist of her body, the steel of her katana flickered crimson.

The Rogue Ninja's eyes widened as his guard was broken, scrambling to fight back, but the girl was simply to fast. Another stroke fell across his chest as blood spilled forth, his guard raising again to block a third stroke, only for a turning kick, the girl's free arm gripping his as their chakra enhanced jumps kept them in the air, gravity only now just slowly returning to them. The twist about behind him was skillful, dancing about him so...effortlessly... another slash gored his back, but even as he felt the pain, he felt the finishing move run through him from behind. Kimiko's clone was crouched atop the man's back now as they fell back towards the street below, the many bodies left in the wake of Xen's Jutsu awaiting them, with her her sword running him straight through. The man was dead even as they fell, his form limp as Kimiko jumped off using his own back, joining the others on the walls of the buildings around the street, the body of the deceased Rogue Nin hitting the already corpse riddle pavement with sickening slap.

The other Kimikos were hardly idle however, Kimiko's two other clones beside her having finished the hand signs they'd been running through, one of the clones bringing their fingers up to their lips as they took a deep breath, the chakra building within them until, with a mighty exhale, a massive ball of flame spewed forth from the girl's breath, tearing through the air, down below, and right towards the the still twitching forms of the rogue nin below.

Like a cleansing fire of judgement, the ball of fire crashing the pavement around them, the twitching stunned forms of the down nin joining the rest as they burned under the wrath of the jutsu, leaving nothing a blackened fallen battalion as the street feel silent...


Xenon merely raised a hand, keeping the senbon elegantly between his fingers as he adjusted his glasses with the face of his palm, his eyes still locked ahead of them, and the further on approaching adversaries washing into the village... this was nothing more then the first wave...furthermore, merely one small facet in a much larger seige to pressinto the center of the village. The radio at his waist was alive with com chatter, the Shinobi on the adjoining avenues and all across the various districts struggling to maintain a presentable defense. This invasion was nothing short of the word... they had not yet even begun to fight...

This is a basic technique taught to ninja at an academy. Bunshin no Jutsu creates one or more clones of the user, which can be used as a means to create a diversion, distraction, or cause confusion. These illusory clones will simply disappear if come into contact, and cannot do anything to damage the opponent.
Cp cost: 1 pt. per clone.

Training: 1 stage
Stage I: Chakra Control DC 10 Use your chakra to create a model of yourself. Pay special attention to details so that your clone and yourself will be hard to distinguish apart.
Special: Can create 1 per 5 ranks in Chakra Control. The user numbers each of their clones individually. The attacker does a random number check to see what they hit.
To See Through Clones: d20 + 1/2 the user's int mod + half the user's chk mod vs. d20 + opponent's int. mod. Opponent will target the real ninja among the clones.

Henge no Jutsu (Transformation Technique)

The user utilizes the sheep hand seal or the tiger hand seal and concentrates their chakra to assume the appearance of another person, an animal, or even any object. This is one of the required basic jutsu taught at the Ninja Academy.

The Otobe were a clan of power...a clan of pride... a clan of conviction. As the armies they had spent so long to build up and secure laid seige to the place they had so long known to theirs, the Otobe themselves led the siege. They acted as the officers, the orchestrators, and the wrathful drivers of this engine of revenge. Yet as the second wave washed through the empty outskirts of the village, the sounds of war and battle raging all around them, the battlion ahead of them mean to clear the way and act as cannon fodder while they swept in a finished off the skillful with the hired Rogue nin, had gone silent. As the sight ahead of them at last became clear, the Otobe officers hearing it long before their subordinates, they couldn't quite be sure what they were looking at.

Xenon Maboroshi stood seemingly alone in the middle of the street ahead of them, surrounded by the corpses of their advance troops, looking, for all the world, completely untouched. He looked nothing like one who had just taken part in a battle... even his expression was one of a rather casual regard, as though he'd had an awaited appointment with them, and was merely pleased that they had arrived on time.

"W-what the..." the Rogue nin's eyes were wide, he and his fellows frozen where they stood at the sight before them. "This...one guy did all this?"

The Otobe officer's feel alert with their senses, the first quieting his breath as he picked up the surrounding presences as well. But...but only five of them? He twitched slightly as he leveled his gaze towards the Shinobi in the open, the coat tails of of his uniform flapping in the same wind as the silver haired boy's own long coat.

"Be warned!" The officer called clearly alert "He's not alone." But informing the others of an enemy they couldn't see was perhaps only worsening the situation. The otobe's eyes narrowed bitterly "A young man with silver hair, a stitched shirt, and a white coat... the Last Laugh spoke of you." associating him with the rather unsettling name of Kyojin did nothing to improve morale as the looks toward him became all the more alarmed. "Xenon Maboroshi, isn't it?"

"My reputation proceeds me," Xenon said in an almost airy voice. "I'm flattered. I know of you, of course...the infamous Otobe Clan. So long ago banished from your home for the mere crime of claiming your birth right...isn't that so?"

The officer seemed slightly surprised. "Hm...you're knowledge is more...informed, then expected." his guard was still up, but he indicated the symbol of the Otobe Clan upon his chest. "If you are truly as strong as you seem, and understand that much of us, then there's no reason for you to die this day. We have not come to destroy Otogakure, this is merely a reclamation of what is ours to begin with. We would reward the loyalty of one as...apparently skilled, as yourself. Stand down, and I'm sure you will find US a far more worthy master then the coward who governs your village now."

"Hn hn hn," Xenon merely adjusted his glasses again, his senbon still resting between his fingers. "Oh that's just adorable." the officer twitched slightly, an unsettling feeling in the air as the Maboroshi's glasses flashed over from the angle of the light. "I have to admit, I admire your tenacity, however, your assumption that I would so easily back down from weaklings like you is a bit...insulting." a chilling sensation worked their way down their spines. "Do you really think that your "cause" would sway me to just sit back and let you past? Hn hn hn," his smile had slowly melted into a rather disturbing leer, the very same he often wore whenever he was attempting to scare those around him. Unlike Kyojin, he wasn't naturally predisposed towards it, but he could certainly put own the show of a mad scientist when the occasion called. "I couldn't care less if you're cause is righteous or not. Quite honestly, it's irrelevant at this point. Both sides have a righteous cause and valid reasons for why their fighting, so picking one over the other would merely be an act of futility. I will merely continue to follow my own prerogatives, and at present, said prerogatives are to protect the village to whom I owe a debt from invaders. As someone who seems so attached to their home even after so many years, surely you can understand...?" his leer grew slightly. "And anyway, you've shown me no sign that you have even close to what it takes to succeed in this little war you've started." Xenon wrist flicked as it was broguth out in front of him. "But I'll tell you what. Maybe if you manage to last more then a minute, unlike the last bunch, I'll listen to what you have to say."

"L-less than a minute...?"

"What is this kid...?"

"H-his eyes...he's...not bluffing!"

"SILENCE." The Otobe Officer's voice brought what he asked for, but the fearless smirk upon their opponents face, and the staggering killer intent radiating from him...even he, even he was shaken. "WE FIGHT FOR THE OTOBE! WE FIGHT FOR JUSTICE! CHARGE!!"

Xenon merely chuckled silently, the Rogue Nin and the two officers advancing...right into what amounted as a killing field.

Behind the his front of swagger and leers, Xenon's attitude was completely impassive. Justice...? There were as many meanings for that word as there were people alive. Did the Otobe truly think themselves special for following their sense of justice? Did they believe that their way alone was the only way? Even if he tended to be rather accepting of personal philosophies, that was just something he couldn't understand. To be so blinded by one's ego that they failed to realize that they were, in base and principal, no different from anyone.

There was a time when Xenon would have thought them no different from himself after a fashion. He did, after all, follow his own will without exception, fully admitting himself to be a rather seflish individual...but it was that awareness that seperated him from people like the Otobe. The fact that he knew and admitted that he followed his own will without regard to some higher power, the fact that he admitted that everyone could only follow their own wills... it stopped him from being to eager to put himself over others...to use the power he attained to unnecessarily infringe upon the wills of others. This may have seemed altruistic, but in reality in Xenon's eyes it was merely common courtesy. As he was equal to them, cheapening their will was cheapening his own. Likewise, when others came at him with the intent to kill, or his will was forced into a position where no compromise could be made, he didn't hesitate to inflict his will...but that was a fine line between believing he was backed by some absolute morality to inflict his will.

These Otobe...the self righteous way they held their will, their justice, above the wills of others...as though power wasn't the only thing that supported that will... it rubbed him the wrong way. Normally when he fought, or even killed, it wasn't personal. He didn't really get riled up at much and it wasn't a simple task to make him genuinely angry...

But right now, at this moment, something was prickling at the surface of his temper. Maybe it was because even now he knew that Raine and Dash would likely be fighting for their lives, maybe it was because he knew that Senkyo was somewhere on this battlefield fighting on the other side... maybe it was merely because he was still a little irritable from learning the truth about his mother...

Either way... whatever the reason. Xenon Maboroshi's normally rather passive mental state, was tinged with a hint of wrath.


Kimiko and her clones lay hidden behind on the nearby rooftops as the next group of soldiers came down the way, heading straight for Maboroshi. They were fewer in number, which was lucky, but even at a glance Kimiko could tell they were greater in skill level, her own emerald eyes narrowing as they gripped the hilt of her Mother's katana. All four of her. She couldn't help a small grin as Maboroshi laid it on thick down there, the killer intent he was emitting lost on her. For some reason she'd lost any and all ability to find her rival scary a long time ago. Now all she could think as she looked down at him was 'Honestly, what a ham.' With Maboroshi she was surprised he was staying to form with his usual leer, he generally tended to mix it up enough that she wouldn't have been surprised if he'd set up and table and had some tea ready for when they arrived. And that wasn't a random guess either, he'd actually done that on one of the mission they'd down together over the passed year. For a ninja near jounin level he could be such a drama-king sometimes.

The call for a charge went up, and Kimiko and her clones swept down...

They'd never even had a chance. Kimiko upon them her katana drawn, the white coated maiden's skill with blade purely a thing of a art as she swept through their defenses, the Otobe officer at the front of the charge apparently the only one who'd detected her presence. His partner, had not been so fortunate. Perhaps if he'd had his Kekke genkai active, perhaps he'd seen in coming, heard it coming, but even then, as the steel danced through him with all the finesse of a dance, he honestly doubted if he'd been able to avoid it regardless. Two of the girl swept past him in a storm of steel, the real Kimiko goring the man through the chest as the clone moved on after a single strike to the rogue nin nearest him. In the heat of battle it had been only an instant... a moment in time... and yet he'd been overwhelmed...defeated...by a child. A child not even of the Otobe... even as life left him...he cursed his disgrace...

The rogue nin's thoughts were not so elegant. One moment they'd been charging the white coated youth, fear already clutching at their hearts, then, the very next moment, a storm of blades was cutting through them. Two of their number fell immediately, but the third, one of the Otobe that had been supposed to lead them, the Otobe who had shown themselves to extremely skilled and almost maddeningly driven shinobi, was purely cut to riddance.

It didn't matter that the one responsible was an otherwise attractive young teenager, it didn't matter in the slightest that Kimiko Momoe was an often kind, if abrasive, individual. In that moment as she and her clones initiated their attack, she had become a thing of unknown terror in the eyes of these rogue nin. A vengeful Valkyrie of war wielding her blade as a master artist might his brush.... the ringing of the steel as it sang with each slash, seemed a song of death...

A requiem, for the departed.
