Yu knew they liked to take a genre, rip it open, turn it inside out, grind it into a puddle, and spit it out. And yu recommended Madoka Magica to me, in which they performed the acts above to the Magical Girl genre quite literally. Complete with decapitation beforehand. This was all part of some evil convoluted plan yu had to expose me to this blatant twist of cuteness.
Not that I'm complaining, I like the show and am gonna keep watching it. The series was just like, BAM, though.

Shaft is better known for background gags (like constantly-changing chalkboard text) and general messing with series, though. They're responsible for Modoka Magica, but they also made stuff like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Hidamari Sketch.

Maybe a better comparison would be like Madoka Magica is the Magical Girl version of Evangelion.
