The stage is set.
No one really knows for sure, I'm guessing that it's just a way to hype up football games to students who are usually too busy drinking or doing drugs to care. I mean, who actually is coming home to a homecoming? Nobody, that's who. So why do they even exist? Anyone with even a remotely vague idea tell us please!

Basically, an excuse for the school jocks to feel that they are superior to anyone who doesn't play school sports.
As for why it happens, I haven't the slightest. I believe it started in a few universities, and spread from there.
