Treecko crawled along the walls. It was sad and lonely at the moment... "Rex, return soon..." Treecko sighed. (I'm back! Sorta...In a few weeks things should return to normal...in other words, Rex will be back!)

A curious Zubat hung from the rafters, silently "watching" the Treeko. Upon hearing its lament, she flew over to her master's room, squeezed through the door, and picked up a Caterpie candy (her personal favorite). Zero watched his Zubat fly out of his room, wondering what she was up to.
The Zubat hovered next to the Treeko, offering the candy in hopes of making it feel better.

A Shuckle shuffles out into the main room of the HQ, checking to see if anyone was there. It peered at the clock, deciding that now is a good time for it to sit in front of the teleporter. The rock/bug Pokémon plopped down in front of the machine and promptly fell asleep. About twenty seconds later, a Lucario runs out of the teleporter and, like a Magikarp on a greasy floor, trips and falls flat on the floor. He sits there for a moment, pondering how this happens every single time he comes in. Eventually, he lifts his head in time to see the Shuckle laugh and shuffle away. The Lucario lays his head back down on the cold tile floor, trying to convince himself to get up...

The Zubat dropped the candy at the Treeko's head and quickly hid in the rafters, surprised at the sudden entrance of the strange Lucario. Confused, she flew back to Zero to report what she heard. Moments later, the old wooden door creaked open, and the cloaked Aqua member walked to the main room, to see what the commotion was about.

Shaydas' ears twitched at the sound of footsteps nearby. He looked up, effectively snapped out of his trance. Another Aquan was walking up to him. Before the newcomer could say anything, Shaydas fixed his purple eyes on him and said, "Save yourself a Pokéball. I've already been caught." He got up slowly and brushed some dust out of his fur before introducing himself. "My name's Shaydas," he announced, extending a paw to the newcomer.

Zero blinked. The Lucario talked; the Countess didn't mention that. He shook Shaydas' hand and nodded.
"I'm Zero. Last I checked, thievery was illegal in Aqua HQ; I don't plan on catching any Pokémon in here." The Countess poked her head out from within the shade of Zero's hood, fixing her ears on this Pokémon.

Shaydas rubbed the back of his head, a little embarrassed. "Sorry," he chuckled. "I'm used to every Magikarp-brained grunt that walks by me trying to catch me. Force of habit, I guess. Can't be too careful." He looks over Zero for a moment. "Looks like everybody's coming out of the woodwork now, huh?" the Lucario joked.

Unused to the idiom, the joke sailed past him. He shrugged, figuring the joke to not have a malicious intent; the Lucario seemed kind enough. "I don't think I've seen you before. Are you new here?" he asked, always intrigued by new faces.

Shaydas nodded. "As far as I know, I'm the newest member here," he confirmed. "I guess you're one of the many members who've been hiding out?"

Zero smiled at Shaydas' comment. "I guess you could say that. From what the Countess has told me, this place has been a little quiet recently, so I can see why you think everyone here's so secretive." He gestured to himself. "Well, in my case, I've been doing a bit too much research to notice much of anything going on at the moment. My Zubat convinced me to get out a bit. Something about getting better social skills."
The Countess pulled another candy out from Zero's cloak and silently observed the two Trainers in conversation, smiling at the idea of a new friend.

The Lucario laughed. "I can imagine," he joked. "Seems I came in at a lull in activity, so I figured most people were keeping to themselves." Shaydas looked at the Zubat and noted, "Quite a friendly pal you've got there. What's its name?"

Zero turned to look at his Zubat. "She titled herself 'the Countess,' after some vampire book I read to her," he recalled, laughing slightly at the memory.

"The name fits her," the Lucario smiled. "Seems I'm not the only Pokémon who loves a good story." Shaydas' tail began swaying back and forth in tune with a song that began playing on his P*DA. He looked at the device. "I didn't know this thing had a music player," he said aloud.

"Is that where that music is coming from?" Zero asked. "Huh, I didn't know that, either." He thought for a moment. He hadn't used his TADS for much of anything, except mission updates. After a few moments in silence, he turned back to Shaydas. "I'm off to the mess hall. You're welcome to join."

The Lucario smiled. "The T.A.D.S. doesn't actually have a media player from what I've seen so far," he explained. "I don't really use my T.A.D.S. though, so I don't know all of its features. I prefer my P*DA." Shaydas followed Zero to the mess hall, as he'd never actually been there before.
