I think of heard of that one. And yeah I kinda sorta have to agree.
The main problem about American entertainment is that either:
A: The people in charge don't want to put money in a "risky" show/movie and instead want to go with the safe ones. This is why Micheal Bay is so popular. Yeah he spends a lot of money making his movies, but he usually gains them back despite the fact they're only good because they're big and loud and full of explosions and stuff instead of actually having character devolopment or a stable plot.
B: When they do put money into it either the rest of the network doesn't like it and does everything they can to kill it. Also known as
Screwed By the Network . Firefly is usually falls under this. Episodes where shown out of order, delayed, put into "dead" time slots where people can't or won't uusally watch it at.
C: When they do put money into it any and all people who would be interested in it actually stay away because "It's just going to be canceled." Once again Firefly is an example. People saw it went "This is awesome! But it's going to get cancled" This means that if people actually gave it a chance while it first started it might have had a chance of still being on the air.
Or in terms of movies because one of the more "safe" movies is on. Example this time? Scott Pilgrim Vs The World against The Expendables.
Indy rock, comic book based, anime and game inspired love story versus THE BIGGEST NAMES in ACTION movie history. It's not really surpising that The Expendable was a Blockbuster, but most people who saw both tends to agree that Scott Pilgrim was a better movie all around.
As for why Hollywood tends to rip off stories from other countries? Because somebody either liked it or they found out a group of Americans likes it and decide to bring it over here. But we can't just leave the story alone Oh No can't have that. If the book hasn't been made into a movie you can't blame them too much, except for Americanizing it. Now if they're remaking a movie you can blame them if it sucks. Granted, the remakes look better then the originals, but once again we have to Americaniz everything. We can't show a forigen film! No we have to pay them the rights so we can make it and get more money that way! Because to show the orginal version with subtitles or dubed , which is more expensive then making a whole movie and people wouldn't see it anyways because they hate to read during a movie (sarcasm), would me most of the royalties would have to go to the orignal actors and directors and stuff instead of us.
I went on a rant....
