Wolfe made a face, genuinely thinking about it for a moment, with genuine displeasure at that. "He'll live," he decided finally, childish bitterness carrying clearly through his tone. "Bet he could live through anything."

"...you don't like him?" Roman blinked. "What did he do?" This sounded mildly like Wolf and the unicorn had gotten into a dispute which had ended with a mutual disapproval of the others' ideas and overall stand on whatever they'd been discussing. Or they simply didn't like each other-- whichever.

"He's okay as long as he's not thinking at you," Wolfe muttered irritably, "It's sort of an off and on thing... It's nicer when he isn't trying to... you know... help... or whatever it is he wants."
It was true--he couldn't really think of anything Madison had done to make him so uneasy than say... things. Like that one day he'd come back from the town and those words they'd spoken on the road... Yet he couldn't rid himself of the feeling that there was something Madison had to offer in return for the trouble he caused.
What trouble that was Wolfe wasn't entirely sure, but there was just this feeling...

It's a pity Roman had an acute memory of New York. "I see." And thus, he wasn't particularly inclined to trust Wolfe's instincts when it came to people. "Well, he'll either take care of himself or end up being kicked out of the house," Roman muttered before entering the grocery store. "What do you need to get?"

"Actually..." Pause. "No idea." Pause. "Don't know if Madison did either." Prolonged pause. "Yeesh, why were we there, anyway? You'd think he wanted to go to the Nest in the first place or... oh..."

"He was probably thinking of a subtle way to get in touch with one or more of the others living at the Nest," Roman shrugged slightly. "I wouldn't think it an uncommon event. Shall I walk you home then, Wolfe?"
A smile touched Roman's lips, delicate and gentle. No matter how much he'd tried to deny it over the years, he really did care about Wolfe-- and having the boy here again made everything seem... bearable. More than bearable-- pleasant, almost...

"Yeah... 'subtle'..." Wolfe muttered, apparently able to grasp the concept only if he didn't approve of it.
He perked up considerably at Roman's offer, however, "Didn't that use to happen... a lot a lot? It was nice. Especially when you were nearby, because then I knew you were getting home too. It's nice to know someone's home.."
Pause.
"You don't have to watch my back all the time anymore, you know. But it's nice that you do."

Roman laughed softly. "I know. This isn't the same place or time-- and you've probably learned to take better care of yourself since then, and I have no reason to be worried about your well-being here yet. But... I enjoy walking you home."
For many reasons, actually. The first and foremost was that it meant Roman got to spend more time with Wolfe. The others ranged anywhere from knowing Wolfe was safe to not being alone with his own thoughts and all the way back again.

Introduction to silence. No, quiet. Comfortable quiet.
"So what happens when you have to get back? Do I walk you home? And then... you walk me home again? And... back and forth? Because that might get repetitive, ro even feel like, you know, we're trapped in something, but not really bad because there's the whole getting to spend time together thing but walking back and forth and back and forth and never really getting to the end of anywhere..."

"You don't have to walk me home," Roman laughed quietly, his voice free from the usual tinge of darkness for that moment. "After all, that would get repetitive."

"Repetition's not bad..." Wolfe felt the need to point out. Maybe sometimes it was--well, not bad but unproductive--but that wasn't really the important thing, right?

"Perhaps not bad, but rather... not useful," Roman smiled. "So I'll walk you home, and then I'll go home, and we won't be repetitive today."

Balin sighed as Cayden flew back in unhappily with the note still tied to him. "Don't be so upset, little one," the Alpha sighed as he gently pulled the note away from the bat. "I'm sure by now he already knows."
Balin resented his beta for several reasons-- the first and foremost being the way Atticus had so violently defied the laws of Nature. But he did have reason to look after the boy at the same time. They were supposed to be a team, even if they weren't on the best of terms.
"Find Asteil then, Cayden-- and bring him back here safely," Balin instructed the bat after a moment of consideration.
A smile crossed Sajar's lips as he listened at the doorway. Something amiss between the red-headed demon and the Alpha? How perfect...
Time to send Rae after the demon then-- and deal with that bat if it got in the way.

Sage knocked on his brother's door and entered, not bothering to wait for a response. "Rae, get up. It's time--"
"What time is it?" Rae asked without opening his eyes, enjoying his rest on the soft bed.
"That's irrelevant-- the Alpha's done something--"
"It's too early, Sajar," Rae muttered softly. "Too early..."
Kicking his brother out of the bed unceremoniously, Sage glared at him and received a glare back. "Go."
"For now we'll play your game, Sajar-- but just remember, you can only lead for so long," the younger brother smiled before rising, dressing and leaving the Nest.
Sajar glared after his younger brother-- he knew that something was going on. Rae knew what had happened before Sage said anything...

((Sorry if you didn't want me to do this now, Raven-sama. xp ))
Gazali growled to himself, walking down a very unfamiliar road. "I can't believe this..." he glared at nothing, feeling an annoyance well up in his stomach. Annoyance that he'd managed to get himself lost whilst doing something as trivial as getting cndy for Carlos, and milk for Illis. And this definately was not the way he was supposed to be going. The demon stopped and kicked at a stone lying a few inches from his right foot, "Dammit!" And he had that date in an hour. Ah well, I'm sure they wouldn't mind if he just didn't show up without calling or anything. Hands came up and rubbed his temples. "Ok, all you need to do, is turn around and go back the way you came, then take that turn."
