Hymn of the Silent

PostPosted: Wed May 02, 2007 3:39 pm

He stopped his sobbing when he felt hands hold him. He knew immediately who it was. He didn't need to open his eyes. The woman who he had vividly scorned not but two seconds ago had tried to calm him down. He didn't know what to do. Musei wiped the tears away, standing when the woman pulled away.

Before anything else, and before he changed his mind once again, he tapped the woman's shoulder. With a smaller-than-usual voice, he whispered into her ear, "I'm sorry." Then, his range of vision was filled with an old, smiling figure, who apparently wanted to entertain him. While the terminology slightly appaled him, he nodded his head. He didn't want to bring any more trouble on anyone. He sniffled a little, and tried his hardest to flash an 'I'm okay' grin.

But, regardless, he knew what that man tried to do. Is he actually coming clean to the girl who so voraciously defended him as near-saint? Whatever the case, Musei was confused. Most of all, he wanted to know why he cried. He didn't feel sorry until he began crying. Before that, he knew he was right. So why did they flow so easily?

Taizen at first didn't know what to do, but of course, he didn't have tod decide since he'd chosen to talk first and think later, which usually ended badly for him. It was true in this situation as well. When Taizen said that, he had been thinking:'perhaps on the trip to the south pole when it'll just be us three... And niima won't be able to leave us until we hit land'

... Apparently Taikai must have foreseen this and voted against such an action. (Or he just wanted the two to have it out then and there.) Eitherway, Taikai decided they had to deal with it then and there, and Taizen felt very subconscious of Niima's eyes, they were warm, and sincere. her eyes had the same feeling of energy that he had drawed upon the night before to heal her... But now, he felt guilty, and dirty. No warmth washing over him to wipe away doubts. The child was still crying... Taizen wondered when the last time he'd cried out of misery, rather than take it out on somebody. Not since he'd learned the water whip at the very least... Musei was a child that knew what was right and wrong around him. Taizen knew what was acceptable to do, and what was not, and the things that were unacceptable were only allowed when he could get away with them, without being caught.

Taizen felt he was his own god, and his religion to himself was all he had. Then Taikai came, and helped him glorify his god. Then Niima came... Creating a new palace of worship that rivaled Taizen's own... "Niima, do you remember the auditorium where I had the bending show?" Taizen asked painfully, as though speaking were sentencing him to years more of torture. he meant to say more but he was afraid to. Instead, using the scythe as a walking staff, he made his way down the hall's to the Auditorium, Niima would follow, yes...?

Once Taizen was walking off Taizen spoke to the child. "Are you hungry? Surely this is a draining experience that has upset you, and the best treatment for trouble, is a friend, and a full stomach." He waved his arm to the plates of food Niima had brought, hardly any of it had been touched as of yet. "Now, something's been bothering me..." Regardless of what the boy was going to say, Taikai had his heart set on asking this question. "Are you a bender...?"

She heard Musei's apology and she looked over to him, softly patting his shoulder as if to say 'don't worry about it'. She felt guilty for fussing at him, truly she did. But he had no right just barging in and speaking the way he did. Specially to someone older then he. It amused her somewhat the way he spoke of Fulgar though. Like someone would fend for their life model.

Hearing Taizen her attention turned quickly, her heart slowing painfully in her chest. The way he spoke..it was like he wasn't ready to speak. Her nerves where shot. What was he going to tell her? What was he afraid of telling her? It not only showed in his voice..but his eyes...those eyes she knew that if she looked into too long, she would lose herself. Like a abyss threatening to steal her soul. She had a dumbfounded look, her lips even forming a 'o' as she gave a nod. She remembered. She also remembered the heartattack he gave her that day. Tsk.

Seeing him move she paused and looked towards the child and Taikai as if silently apologizing. She quickly scooped up two sweet filled dumplings in a napkin before chasing after Taizen. Folding them up she carefully tucked them into the fold craddle of her kimono, deciding to try and get him to eat later..if..things went alright. Once catching up she followed his lead quietly, her eyes staring at the ground with a look of thought. A look that could bore a jagged line in the flooring. She was actually afraid to speak...

Musei slowly walked around to the bed next to the old man, and waved at Niima as she left. Once she was gone, he sat down, again slowly. Almost as if he was going about it all ritualistically. Once he was comfortably placed on the bed, he spoke. "Thank you, but I'm fine." His stomach betrayed him, however. The smell of the food made his stomach growl. He just...didn't want to eat. He didn't feel like it. Again, his stomach rumbled at him, sounding it's defiance. He blushed a little, but continued regardless. "I'm okay. It was just...kinda shocking. All of it happening at once." He was referring to his 'welcome wagon', Cain trying to kill him and Taizen trying to kill Cain.

Musei shifted uncomfortably when presented with the bending question. "Uh, yeah. I'm a bender." He curled his legs up to his chest and set his head on his knees. "I think I'm an...I guess you call it Air Bending? Yeah. I'm an Air Bender. I'm horrible at it, though."

((Im very sorry for the wait... Please forgive me...))

Niima... Would you not let Taizen find solace in the momentary silence? Must you intensify the aura around them? Walking the path to the river styx was how he felt perhaps? Even if he mentally chose to not tell Niima, his stupid body, of which he beleived to have trained for years- Would disobey him. It was even disobeying him now, his mind felt the weight of his guilt and it felt as though it should have cripple him, but did not. He continued walking... Walking... He was vaguely aware that they had reached the destination, it was dark, and dank. Few torches were lit, since there didn't seem to be any need for the auditorium as of yet. He felt his head come back under his control, and he looked to Niima's eyes, those Eyes... They would help him speak, and thus free himself of this guilt... But, if what he said was something irrepentable, would Niima's eyes be enough to motionlessly kill him?

“Niima… You’ve known that I was never an innocent person… Right…?” This was a bad beginning, it almost seemed like an excuse, it felt like one… Was he saying that Niima should have expected it? There was no way she could have expected it, she wouldn’t be fool enough to let someone- something as Taizen felt at the moment- so closely to her. “’The moment someone makes up a decision in his mind to kill someone, that person is a murder.’” He recited the line monotonously, a tribute to his hours buried in scrolls. “It’s a law… That I’ve broken…” Taizen’s face was intent on staying emotionless; he despised emotion in moments where strength was the only answer.

“Fulgar… He Threatened to…!” He began, but stopped, he couldn’t recite the words, despite his own rule, a look of emotion crossed his face: Disgust. As though the fact that he were about to recount the words Fulgar had threatened were slimy and venomous, and speaking them would mean death. But the look of Disgust was only partly for the words, there was also the disgust he felt at this. This was indeed, an excuse. He could fool himself about the other things. But this was indeed an excuse that he would not bear himself to utter.

((Sorry Zaraki-san ;.; I have to sleep… Please forgive me!! I will post for you very soon!! Otaku-Honor!!))

Not like she knew what she was doing! Her mind was reeling with what would soon be said. Unable to contain her worry to just herself. As they entered the auditorium she idly left Taizen's side at one point to sit on the edge of the dias. Her eyes rose to him, meeting his gaze as he saught solice in her own eyes. Her gaze was tender though held her worry quite freely. Even as his words came out. She listened and waited until he finished..but without actually finishing. In fact he looked like he suddenly had a bad taste in his mouth. She thought a moment before speaking..slowly..

"Taizen. I do not agree with this law you speak of. Murder is tearing the soul from someone with malice intentions. To rival in spilling the vital of another. If what you speak of..was true. Then I too have commited murder. So have those who saught to protect those they love and care for in times of war.."

She spoke nothing of his innocences. She didn't know..but she also knew..he was not a murderer. There had to be something.. The word 'threatened' came to focus. Her mind went to Taikai. His wounds. Lightbulb! Cain threatened to kill Taikai! Considering that Taikai was not in the spars to start...It explained the wounds..and Taizen's rage. After all..she seen Taizen and Taikai as more then student and teacher. They where..in some sense of feeling..family.

She decided to speak on the thought. "Cain.." She lightly corrected. "Threatened to kill Taikai is that it?" She tilted her head curiously as she observed that distasteful look of his. She went to say more but decided to wait until Taizen corrected or confirmed her words.

Kazuki's polar bear and his earth bender friend arvived at the base of the mountain. Kazuki got off the bear and looked at the snow under his feet, "I go first, follow behind me." he said as he moved his arms in a circle motion and then the snow rised and turned into water and created a buble around his body that started to fly in the air.

Kazuki reached the temple moments latter and waved down to the earth bender to tell him the close was clear.

Taizen kept his eyes focused where they had fallen. If he didn't look at her, then somehow he would be able to stay whole... His attachment to Niima would not allow him to stay whole. He looked back into Niima's eyes; nodding slowly. "Yes, he threatened to kill Taikai... And anyone else that I held in value..." Taizen clenched his fist's and he seemed to be shaking. "Cain..." He began, apparently he was still bent upon the beleif of Cain and Fulgar being two different entities. "Threatened... to torture you, in the worst possible ways... And he would have me watch...!" Too vague Taizen, you should speak more in detail if you did indeed plan on telling her everything. Well, the conversation was hardly anywhere near over, there was time.

Taikai listened intently and nodded to Musei approvingly, Or perhaps in a way to agree to Musei’s statement. "As you should be, I'd be worried if you were un-shook by the encounter. However with everything going on, I beleive I should expect the unexpected." Taikai seemed to have suddenly learned what Taizen had learned a while ago. "Ah, I thought so! You seemed so very old for your age! You would have to be a bender!" The old man smiled and clapped his hands at his successful guess. "I would think you'd be an excellent bender if you honed your skills. You are certainly 'old' enough." By 'old' Taikai seemed to have meant that he was wise beyond his years. apparently this was a 'senior' moment...

Moments later the door opened a crack and a meek looking female nomad poked her headinto the doorway.
"Excuse me, M-master Taikai? A returning Airbison and bender noticed a waterbender ascending the mountain, we wondered if you knew him... The waterbender that you brought to the exhibition seemed too wounded to bend his way up a mountain..." Taikai seemed thoughtful, a waterbender that could ascend a mountain? A strong waterbender no doubt... Kazuki. "Ah, Thank you, I will go to greet him immediately." The air nomad nodded, and exited quickly. Taikai turned to Musei, waving to the food on the table. I ate enough, and I beleive a water tribe noble is here... we can continue our conversation if you'd like, the problem is that we'd have to talk while we walk." Taikai laughed, heartily, and then stood up slowly, standing to his tallest, with dignity. He gave Musei a smile, and then headed to the door, to search for Kazuki, follow if you’d like Musei’. Heh, water bender’s were such bad hosts. No wonder they were usually thought of as barbarians, they were intelligent people, they’re etiquette just needed to be polished occasionally.

She sat quietly for a few moments, thinking his words over. Cain threatened her too? And it angered Taizen so? For a moment she felt her heart flutter but she swallowed the feeling quickly as she watched him, seeing the anger visibly rise. His anger spoke volumes. Standing, she moved over so that she could reach out to grasp his arm, a few inches below his elbow. Softly she moved her hands to his closed fist and tried to uncurl his fingers. While doing so, she kept her head down casted somewhat so that her hair could hide her features from view. Mostly because..she was still blushing from the inital thought that she meant more to him then just a project or a traveling companion. Not only that but he actually kept his promise to protect her. Something she had thought he had promised just to make her feel better.

She released a heavy sigh as she attempted to flatten his fingers so she could see his palm. It was mostly done to calm him from his growing fury but part of her felt guilty for not trusting in his words of protecting her. "Taizen..Thank you. For keeping your word of protecting me. That..means so much to me. You where doing like any person would when protecting those they care for." As she spoke she would look up to him, her eyes seeking his to show she meant every word. "The only thing you did wrong was allowing Cain to use his words as promises to destroy what you care for. He used your anger against you..it could of gotten you killed. And if you where a murderer I am pretty sure Fulgar would not of left the note to express his apologizes for what happened."

She tilted her head to the side as to judge a thought in her mind. If he was driven to such rage..to protect me..maybe I shouldn't go with him. Her heart tightened at the thought. She didn't like it one bit. She started to speak but found her voice cracked immediately. Her gaze probably reflected her feelings the thought conjoured up. Sorrow. Fear. Worry. But her eyes quickly lowered to his hand as she collected herself to continue speaking. "So you see Taizen, I stand by my words. You are not a murderer. Though you disagree and think your hands are soiled, you have not committed the act. One's thoughts are just that. A thought of anger. Though you attempted, it was just that. In the heat of rage. To protect. Not out of sheer malice and cold blood. I just do not see you as someone who would kill another for no justly reason."

Kazuki walked around in a circle then sat down in the snow on the edge of the mountain. "Man, whats taking him so long to get here. I really don't want to stand here by myself I could be the one attacked this time. Plus bending up the mountain the way I just did too a ton of energy. I should just meditate to regain my strength." Kazuki said as he closed his eyes and crossed his legs and started to meditate. The large gourd of water on his back sat beside him the top off of the gourd just incase he needed to use extra water other then the snow.

Rajin followed Kazuki up the mountain by bending a small platform on which he could push himself up the mountain just as he did before. He thought it wouldn't have been as difficult the second time around. But it was and once he made it to the top he collapsed beside Kazuki. And took a moment to catch his breath.

"Well, lets get to looking for some air benders and also that fire bender I told you about." Kazuki said puting to top back on the gourd and standing up, his energy had retured to him after his meditation. Kazuki smirked as he turned his head and through his long hair his birth mark of a long snake could be seen on his neck, the mark travled from his left ancle all the way to his right half of his chest. "Lets go." he said as he started to walk towards the temples.

Taizen’s fist slowly unclenched itself under Niima's delicate fingers. If it was anyone else, he would have hardened his fist more sheerly out of spite that anyone would think that they could calm his anger. "Niima, when I'm with you, I’m in turmoil..." Niima's hand was soothing; however, this was again in contrast with his other emotions of anger, and frustration. He wanted no calming touch... He wanted to be strong... Was that not what he told himself? In order to be strong, you must be solid, and unwavering. Now he was going on an emotional roller coaster at the snap of a finger… He couldn’t even bear the thought of her leaving him…But, though he knew his understanding was small, he anticipated Niima’s thoughts: ‘I am causing you to go crazy, maybe I should stay here.’ Would that work out? Maybe if she stayed there, she’d be safe… And Taizen could come back every so often…? His heart ached at that thought. Adding sorrow to the already turbulent sea of emotions he was trying to silence.

“Niima… Thank you…” He wanted to seem strong, and incontrol, but his words shook with effort; to keep Niima was his ultimate goal now, He loved her acceptance, her ability to forgive. “Niima… Please don’t leave me…” He wrapped his stiff arm around her in an embrace that begged his words. He could have collapsed weeping with joy that she still accepted him, could have worried himself into a coma that despite his plea she would still leave. But all those Emotion-driven actions became dull sounding, and his body no longer felt the need to tremble. That warm feeling… That warm feeling of Healing… Did it come from Niima? Either way, he wasn’t afraid anymore, not now that he had Niima, everything could end perfectly…

Taizen! Kazuki is here! ...Why is it so dark in here? Anyway, hurry up! We don’t want to worry our host’s! The last people that came helped us destroy half of they’re court, and Kazuki ahs a history of freezing animals..!” The old man didn’t seem to have noticed the embrace in the dark room, nor did he seem to care altogether that much about Musei at the moment, in a few moment’s he was gone, leaving Taizen to digest this information. “We-We’d better go before Kazuki freezes another animal…” Taizen said slowly, thanking the moon and ocean respectively for keeping te room darkly lit so that his embarrassment would not be apparent on his cheek’s, well… Atleast he still had Niima…?

“Kazuki! KaaaZZUuuKKiiiII!!” The old man called randomly out into the air. “Where is that… Kazukiii!!!” Taikai seemed to have lapses of sensibility…

Musei nodded to the old man, Takai, and grabbed a roll before padding his way to the door. He took a small nibble of the edge, judging it edible. "Whaddya mean I'm 'old' enough? Is there an age limit or something?" He of course not understanding what Takai meant. Another small nibble of the roll. He didn't trust most foods, so he ate slowly. "It wouldn't make sense to have an age limit, would it?"

Musei walked next to the tall man, studying the roll intently. He couldn't quite understand what it was made of. He knew rolls were made from wheat...but this had a different taste; a different texture. He didn't like that. It made the food odd and suspicious. It was far better to stay in the norm and not risk getting poisoned.

"Great. They already know I am here and I bet they are coming to attack me, but that old guy is to nice to attack, lets wait here for him, Ok." Kazuki said as he saw the old man and waved. "Hey, Master Taikai, sorry about leaving with out a word I could swear I over stayed my welcome so I went travling. How is everyone?" he asked walking towards the old man and looking around. "Did I miss something?"
