"But you and your pack are going out to hunt for them and you don't know where they are and what if they break in again like the last time you might not realize it until it's to late." She spoke tearfully

Devon shook his head. "What good leader leaves hiss home unguarded. Some of the pack will stay and guard you, as well as their own families and the town." he explain. "I'm taking the majority of the pack, but at least of four of that will my staying here."

"Why are you going so far away if their not even in town and just four wolves for the entire area? That's a lot of ground between here and the town." Lark said already feeling unsafe and scared all over again at the fact that she even needed to be guarded in the first place and Devon sounded like he was going far away when she needed him the most to keep her calm and to help her feel safe

Devon felt like smacking himself for that slip. "I meant a fourth of the pack. Maybe a few extras. And even though it's out of town I have to check. This place may be my "live in" territory, but my domain is wherever there are werewolves. This is my duty. If I didn't think it was important enough for my attention I would be here." He rubbed a hand over his face.

Devon held her close. "I'm not leaving yet, Lark. I'll be here for the moment." He rested his head on hers, breathing deeply. "Perhaps, I can put off leaving for a few days. I'll could send scouting parties to see what information they can give. If it's serious I'll go." he suggested somewhat reluctantly. "I could even make a few calls to trusted Alphas." He usually went out personally to show that he was a dedicated king. That any illegal actions would be taken care of immediately. But perhaps his father was right. Maybe he needed to rely on his subordinates more and step in only when absolutely necessary.

Lark said crying a little more against him calm down some when he put his head on top of hers and began to what she thought was him taking in her scent to calm himself as well and it help even though she was still crying

Devon kissed her head, smoothing out her slightly tangles hair. "If you feel so strongly about me leaving," he said quietly. "You just say the word and I'll stay." He moved placing one hand on the side of her face so he could look her in the eyes. With it thumb he wiped some of the tears away. "I find it extremely hard to say 'no' to you." he said with an gentle smile.

Lark sniffed looking into his gentle golden eyes and she believed him. "Please stay." She said in a small voice returning his smile with a small one of her own but it didn't stop her feeling bad about keeping him from his duty and he knew it too through his connection. "Why is it so hard to say no to me."

Devon studied her face before answering. "Because I love you, My Little Lark. I can't bare to see you afraid, or to see you cry." If she concentrated, she would feel the worry, distress and fierce protectiveness that called up in him. "I want you to be happy and feel safe, not afraid." More than anything he wished for her peace of mind.

Lark did concentrate on the connection and felt all the things he was feeling and felt better, safer with Devon here with her and then she began to hug herself to him tightly. "I love you too. Please don't go if you do have to please stay." Lark said quietly Lark said listening to the protective sound rumbling through him

"I'll stay until I have no other choice." he promised. He knew anyone below could hear him. He was sure he father would have mixed feelings about this. He did to, but Lark took the highest priority right now. His pack could handle it just as well without him. It was about time he trusted others more. "How do you feel? All this must be exhausting you." he said.

Now that he'd mentioned it and after the panic subsided she was feeling very weary and plain exhausted but she had the small fear that he would leave when she was sleeping and she saw him blink at her in surprise or something like it. "I am exhausted and my chest hurts a little." She admitted

Devon looked at her with surprise at the stray fear that ran through at the bond. Then he sighed exasperated. "Sleep then." he said firmly, gently moving her so he could pull the blankets up around her. He fixed the pillows as well. "I made you a promise I would stay. I'm not leaving anytime soon." he kissed her forehead. "Trust me. You know I can't lie to you."

Lark smiled softly before yawning and wincing a little at the pain the motion caused her for the most part her fever was gone and so was the coughing but her body was still sore and weakened. "I do but will stay with me tonight to keep away the nightmare please."
