Zombies. Everywhere. Running toward them like mad. They banged on the doors and windows, trying to get inside, looking for anyway to get inside. Apparently, they had been chasing them the entire time.

Joseph was still driving. He'd make it to the east gate in a few minutes.

His head was leaned back against the blade of his sword. Ruffled dark blue hair blowing in the gentle night breeze. He could see the shambling hordes from here, he could smell the rot off their bones dominating the air, making it a putrid mess.

It had been hours since this battle started. Bodies were in full rigormortis, the stench was enough to make a weaker man gag. Having seen and caused his fair share of carnage, he had a resistance to the stink of slaughter, Maximos was satisfied with simply cringing his nose for a bit.

It wasnt a resistance he was proud of. Owle's voice was like a wake up call, it had just enough concern to warm the Shadow, his job wasnt done just yet. The sight of a dead body reminding him that he was fighting to keep that from happening.

Good...gather all the living that you can...

His back popped thrice as he turned, placing his right hand on the hilt of the sword and forcing his legs to carry him. His body was like a child that just did not want to get up to go to school and in every way and for that it could, it protested.

But he stood, right hand sliding up the edge of the hilt grabbing the obsidian shaft and yanking it from the ground with and audible "Shink!". His rolled his shoulders, and then rolled his head along his shoulders letting out a myriad of pops and cracks. His left hand reached up, slipping the life leaf tea bag from his mouth and sliding it back into his pocket.

His face was worn, but from his eyes 6ft perch he could see exactly how much work was left, and it soon tightened. There was no time to rest, no time to relax, not now...not yet.

We're going to have to strike as a unit...

The first step is the toughest, he shook off the pain, the wear and tear. It would take a few more minutes before the leaf gave him his second wind. But he forced that first step, and the next...and the next. Bullets were never a good thing.

...I'm on my way...

Grace stomped out of the ragged slash that appeared in another alley, her eyes almost brimming with tears as she saw the destruction that had befallen the city. "Why? Why didn't you stop this?"

'Andi closed the gate behind her and looked sadly at the city. "It was not my place to interfeer... as I was reminded... There are rules that need to be followed." 'Andi looked as bright and shiney as she had before, even if there was a slightly sad look to her, whereas Grace was dirty and smudged from her little roll the last time they had been here. "You can do a lot more for this place than I can dear... I will watch you back and see if I can't help the survivors in my own way..."

Grace blinked a few times and scowled at the other woman as she looked out onto the road ahead of them, the place was littered with rubble and dead bodies, signs that the fight had moved on... "I thought you said that you never bothered with the rules anymore..." With a sigh she checked the closest body for vital signs, and then to see if the soal was still lingering in the area, shaking her head and moving on to the next body.

Verdandi, misted out to nothing more than a slightly tall glimps of light drifting along behind the healer, doing what little she could to keep her friend out of trouble... I try not to follow the rules anymore, all they do is complicate things and limit what I can do... She would lend Grace her strength when the healer started to slow down, it was a temporary fix but it was all 'Andi was willing to risk at the moment.

Grace would heal anyone that she found who was not already dead, she had retreated from the fight, but she was a much better healer than she was a fighter!

Except, it wasn't like Kchain was stumbling backwards due to the impact or anything. The ball fazed him, and he retreated, that was all there was to it. If this were a fighting game, the attack would have done zero damage. Hoping to slam his head into the concrete or whatever absurd maneuver the man had in mind was ridiculous, because he wasn't off-balance enough to fall. All he had to do was keep moving backwards and Rain would fall all by himself.

Going to the ground in an attempt to score a free hit on someone with a sword was never a good idea, and Rain was about to find out why. Kchain swung the sword downwards, aimed at Rains neck. Any attempt to move at ultraspeeds would be negated due to their close proximity, and it wasn't like Rain was in a good position to move all that quickly anyway.

Very few blades could cut straight through someones neck, and this was no exception, although it could certainly come close, definetely hacking into his spine at the bare minimum. If Rain were miraculous, he'd only be partially paralyzed, doomed to a wheelchair or crutches for the rest of his life though.

Well, that was until Kchain carefully aimed and fired, holding Rain's body in place with the sword deep in his neck, presumably splattering his brains all over the concrete.

"Blitzkrieg."

As Rain bounced around from his initial assault and came in again without a pause, Kalis was a bit late to react. That is to say, he was busy stepping away from where the man had been and checking for Owle, which put him outside striking distance, though rounding back toward Kchain's right as Rain came at him again.

At that point, Kalis would dart in toward the combat, as Rain assumably fell.

Following that line of thought, he'd move in and flick his wrist at the blow that would come if Rain fell onto his face, parrying with a crunch.

A crunch, because he was parrying the blow up just above the wrist, not down the length of the blade.

Still held in a single hand, he sacrificed the straight up power and complex twists of a two hand grip for the simple speed and reach of the one hand grip. Leaning the right shoulder forward as he stepped in near the two, he'd be able to use that speed and extra reach to intercept the swing, saving Rain's neck, though it was a close thing. In a single hand, the blade was more than capable of biting through a thin metal or heavy leather protection, if either was on Kchain's sword wrist, and biting into the first bone of the forearm and breaking it, but leaving the second and the majority of tendons and major blood flows in there intact. Still, it was a wound deep enough to disable any real use of the hand until the bone was fixed, and the gash closed.

That being the case, he'd follow through by continuing to push on the wrist, taking it in reverse of the arc it'd followed down toward Rain, sharply jerking his sword free of the man's arm and flinging whatever single handed sword the crippled hand held to the ground, assumably. That would still leave a gun he'd have to cope with, and the easiest course of action would be to fling himself bodily into the man, knocking him away from Rain, and grasping for the gun arm with his free'd hand while he kept the right hand with the sword out of the way to avoid cutting himself, probably along with the other man.

If Rain didn't go down, probably thanks to that foot he was putting in with his lunge to try and support himself, and provoke the short-notice coup-de-grace though, the man would probably still have his sword open to respond to the threat of the swordsman closing on him, and Kalis would start with a lunge at Kchain's stomach instead, using the superior reach of his larger blade to his advantage.

"I'll try..." Owle sent back to Maximos. It was a bit of a tall order, considering she hadn't seen a single living person in the city besides the murderer and his victim. But the woman was determined to save every last person she possibly could without herself or her friends dying.

"Do you know anyone else who's here?" she asked over the telepathic channel as her body readied itself to strike.

It was safe to say, that, while trying to gut and blow Rains brains out of his skull, Kchain was not, in fact, watching the black cat coming out from underneath the car behind him. Even if by some crazy supersense he decided to turn around and see the cat running towards his back at this moment, he would do so at the expense of taking his eyes off Rain and Kalis, leaving them an opening in which to strike, or making his own strikes more clumsy. And, even on Gaia, small black kittens were generally not considered threatening enough to rate taking your eyes off two fully grown muscular men who were trying to split your head open and slice you in two.

All of which added up to Owle being able to get right behind Kchain, unchallenged.

What happened next, and exactly where it happened, depended on just how big this magic negation field was, and whether or not it affected Owle's power to shapeshift.

The black cat would run as close as it could to Kchain, shifting back into Owle's almost human form at the last moment possible. The woman would lunge forward, fingers of her right hand curled as if they were holding a dagger, and drive that hand forward towards his back. Suddenly, the woman was holding a dagger in that hand, and if left unchecked it would slam into his back just below his right lung, buried into his flesh as far as Owle could jam the four inch blade.

In case that wasn't enough, her left hand was coming forward in a similar fashion. If he didn't do something to stop her, she'd have two knives buried in him.

When Rain had smashed the Magic 8-ball into the side of Kchain's head, he never reeled back and tried again. His attempt to follow through was all part of the same smashing swing; however, the broken sphere knocked Kchain's head back far enough where Rain's hand would have missed a sure grip on the cranium, and thus reeling forward from the momentum, as pointed out. The shards of broken plastic would probably do a number on Kchain's cheek, though.

However, this was all pivoted upon his left foot, not a full-body tackle or something. Think of a pitcher's swing, the person's body continuing their limbs' paths of travel. Since he had been intending to have a head in his hand, smashing into the ground, he still had his hand there to catch his upper body, preventing him from falling forward, or any direction. His left arm was curled to his side, his right leg kicking up into the air as he paused in that stance.

It was obvious once his hand slipped free from Kchain that he didn't actually snag him as planned, so he wouldn't let his eyes wander, let alone focus on the ground; he continued to observe his opponent as best as he was able. Though being parallel to the ground by about two feet didn't allow much to be taken in visually, he would see Kchain's right arm pull back and up with the sword, an obvious intention to slash it downwards at him. It didn't take a rocket surgeon to know what the intended target was going to be.

No ultraspeed was needed for the next action. He fell. Not straight down, mind you, but to his left. Pushing off with his braced right hand and his foot, he would roll outside of the arc of the swing, since Kchain had never truly turned to face Rain; what, with not being the bigger of the two threats and all. If Kalis was unable to parry the blow, the blade would graze the edge of the side of his neck, drawing blood from a very thin, fine slice against the skin, but no vital damage done. 'Tis but a flesh wound.

As he would fall, he would throw his body weight to his left, rolling across the ground and landing in a crouch. Looking up, he would see the pistol aimed at him, and would roll to the side again as the trigger was pulled, in an attempt to avoid the attack. It wouldn't be too terribly hard to follow Rain's path of travel, but it would take a second or so longer to adjust to the wily man's movements, a second he probably would not have with a man swinging a sword in his face. Otherwise, it would miss, the bullet ricocheting off of the pavement.

If Kchain was hell bent on taking careful aim at Rain and shooting him with a second shot, there would be little he could do to avoid getting shot. But that would involve focusing purely on Rain, who was now flanking the gunman with Kalis, on opposite sides of the assassin. Dare he turn his back to the swordsman? Stay tuned to find out!

Special Ability: Blade Negation

If any sort of cut, slash, stab, or anything else involving an edged weapon is attempted, negate all damage until an offensive move is made by the caster.

A simple enough spell, it would seem. The drawback of the spell was now he was essentially turtled for an undisclosed amount of time. The blades seemed to just dip into him, and as a consequence of the spell, Rain would suffer no damage. Kchain growled, there was no way he could fight three different people.

He dropped both weapons and moved his arms behind himself, wrapping his arms around Owle's wrists, and then...

...poof. They were gone in a rather stereotypical puff of black smoke, much like a Vegas magician might use.

Although, maybe not in the shapes that Kchain had used.

CUNTS

Apparenty, Kchain was a very crude person when annoyed. In any case, Owle and Kchain were gone, disappeared into thin air, it would seem.

Chris Custard

He dropped both weapons and moved his arms behind himself...

At which point Owle would step backwards, pulling her arms away from him quickly. She was still staring in mild shock at the place where her knives should have left bloody holes, but she wasn't going to just stand stock still with his arms coming at her. The knives would vanish into her flesh, and Owle would continue to back away fast.

Considering how awkward it was to try and grab a target behind you, and a target you couldn't quite see even if you twisted your head around funny, it wasn't going to be hard for Owle to evade the grab.

She would just continue to back up, her mind racing, trying to figure out what to do.

He was still gone though, in the same way.

And with reality once again twisted for a moment into inexplicable events and then set straight again, Kalis was to be left looking at Owle sitting in the middle of a very crude cloud of gas, simply begging a certain question be made in jest.

Kalis blinked a few times, looked around for the man, and then let the force around him dissipate, taking a deep breath now that breathing was easy again. A quick twist to look behind him to make sure the man wasn't in fact behind him, and he'd turn forward at Owle again, sheathing the blade, and then crossing his arms over his chest.

"Owle,"

He sniffed, and made a face.

"Was that you?"

And thus to celebrate the foes retreat our brave heroes... Were defened by what sounded like one of the largest horns they have ever heard. Rounding the corner at purley unsafe speeds was Joseph Brown and his sixteen wheels of fury. Of course you couldn't see who was driving from that distance; maybe you could catch a glimpse of the A~E logo on the trailer but that's about it. For all intents and purposes there was a very large truck barreling down on the group.

At least they could hear the breaks activating fairly fast. They too were loud.

Thus after the screech of tires, the hiss of hydraulics, and the blasts of air, the beast of a machine came to a slow and debatedly graceful stop nearby the three. It would be about then they could see the man in the driver seat. One hand on the wheel, one arm rested on the rolled down window, and every so slightly leaned back in a well made trucker's seat.

A hand darted from the wheel to a radio type thing, switches were flipped and the receiver was brought up to that man's mouth. Out from a bullhorn like amplifier mounted on the roof of the cab came a voice:

"Didja really think that would work Rain?"

((One thread is easier, so meh.))

Since the doors to the Deity Office both are without a lock and swing inward, the zombies interested wouldn't have a hard time flooding in. Except they'd find a lobby dark and empty, with no more doors for them to charge through.

Those pooling outside would be free to pound against the outside of the office until their arms were worn to nubs. There also wasn't any windows to be zombied open.

"Schult." One soldier waved another over to the chest-high wall ringing the roof of the office. The two then methodically began taking aimed shots down at the thrashing mass of undead flesh. Aiming for the heads, naturally.

Of the six there was a man on outlook at each corner of the building with the two, making four soldiers facing the street, culling the horde at the doors down below.
