At first, Brutus has been uninterested in the battle at hand, instead more curious about all the edible things he could find around him, but as it continued and Kasiya's Tropius flew up high, the little crocodile focused. His grin widened as the short-lived match reached its culmination, resulting in a victory for the larger, strange flying Pokemon. Amy watched with rapt attention, noting the confidence and experience that Kasiya exuded. Tropius was certainly an interesting Pokemon, but it had its own kind of grace. Her guesses of what might happen were confirmed when the two girls talked and then returned to the Pokecenter. She wouldn't be surprised to see them hovering by the trade machine.

"No," she agreed faintly when Riza remarked on the shortness of the battle, turning to the raven-haired girl. A small smile flickered on her face when she informed her of her departure in her very matter-of-fact tone and nodded somewhat understandingly. Most of the excitement of the eggs mysteriously appearing had worn out and it seemed time to move on to whatever everyone else had planned next. "Oh, thank you," she said when the older girl wrote down her number. "A-and you too!" Amy called after Riza as she left. As soon as she was left standing alone, her heart began to race. She knew what lay ahead of her. She had to be prepared. Amy continued into the Pokecenter, catching Karrigan stepping outside, presumably to go train. The bespectacled girl continued to the counter, recalling Brutus into his Pokeball and handing all of her team to a helpful nurse. A few minutes later and her team was all healed up. Remembering the TM she had purchased in Celadon, she checked her Pokedex to see Marshall's moves and remembered that she had already taught him Dig. She stared at the screen for a few more moments, but knew that there was nothing else to do.

Amy continued out of the Pokecenter with a determined stride, sights set on the Vermilion City Gym. It was a brisk walk there, hands nervously wringing the strap of her bag, and she paused outside the door, heart racing in the same way it had when she was about to step out onto that stage just the other night. She could do this. She could, at the very least, try. And then, steeling herself, Amy opened the door to the gym and stepped inside, searching for Surge. "E-excuse me!" She winced at her own quavering. She would not be afraid. She took a step forward, voice clearer, "My name is Amethyst Maple and I've come here to challenge you, Surge!"

A quick glance beside her told her that Jake was faring much better than she was--at least, he appeared that way, from the cool expression he wore. Whatever, he didn't even get the annoying opponent; she had that privilege. Jade's eyes narrowed as she watched what would be Cirrus' final encounter with the Glameow, knocking into her particularly violently and knocking her out. But her irksome little friend was quick to draw another Pokemon, bringing out some fire-monkey that was already moving on his trainer's behest. Cirrus snarled and, before Jade could say anything, charged head-on, determined to get some direct hit on the Monferno. He was not that lucky: the Shinx, in all of his recklessness, only began to charge for another Spark when the Mach Punch hit dead-on and he rolled back in the dirt, looking suddenly pathetic. "You did your part," Jade said, recalling the Electric-type before he moved again. She would be as quick as her friend here, drawing out Aquarius' Pokeball and commanding for a Water Gun as soon as he materialized. The little duck, detecting the vexation in Jade's voice, made a wary noise and turned upon that fast-looking monkey, spraying a jet water right at him.

The curly-haired boy paled when the seemingly-indestructible Magnemite got back up after Misdreavus' last attack. And then that blonde kid had the nerve to order another Thundershock, which, of course, did not fare well for him or his Pokemon. Misdreavus moved sluggishly and slowly, still leaving her in range of the unforgiving bolt and eliciting a sharp cry before she slowly began to drift downward. Her trainer recalled her, gnashing his teeth and producing a slug-like Pokemon that looked ecstatic to be a part of the battle. It gurgled happily, beaming at Jake and the Magnemite. "Mud Bomb!" he cried, and the Shellos complied, mouth expanding larger and larger until it spat a large ball of mud that barreled right for the floating magnet.

As Riza walked around the front of the center and then away from it, she suddenly realized that making room for her Snivy meant that she'd put away her only Pokemon capable of using Fly at the moment, which essentially meant that she was grounded unless she wanted go go back in and switch her Fearow out again. She quickly decided against it, having had more than enough of the cranky bird's attitude for the time being, and she was sure that once Faustus evolved, he'd be able to fly with her, at least she knew Clair could fly with her Dragonair. The thought of the large, slender and beautiful Pokemon the adorable Dratini would become made her heart race and she knew he'd fit in well in the contest world. She thought of her new Snivy and lightly touched the poke ball on her belt before giving a small sigh. The Snivy was different, that was for sure, but why couldn't she have been the one to get the cute Minccino, or the interesting little Elgyem?

Before long, she'd put quite a bit of distance between herself and the pokecenter, and the nearby signpost that she passed said that if she continued to go in that direction, she'd find herself at a place called Diglett's Cave. Figuring a cave full of Diglett was probably not as interesting as the sign wanted it to be, Riza pressed onward, wondering where route 11 would take her. At one point, a testy little Spearow appeared on the path, squawking something fierce at the dark haired girl. Riza considered sending Selena out to chase it off but at the last minute remembered that grass-types were weak against flying-types so she altered her choice, instead sending out her Dratini, Faustus. "Blast it away with your Dragon Rage," she said, and even though the dragon-type looked a bit hesitant, he reared back and unleashed a fierce blast of indigo coloured flames at the now terrified little bird. It squawked fearfully and hobbled away and into the cover of the tall grass, and Riza seriously hoped the little guy would think twice the next time he stepped out to challenge someone.

"Picking on helpless little Spearows now, are we, sis?" called a voice from nearby.

'Okay, this really isn't good,' Katie thought, a little bit of panic welling up inside her stomach as she watched Miles lie helplessly on the ground, a prisoner of the paralysis that held his body. "Hang in there, Miles! We still have this! Hit that stupid Pikachu with another Swift!" The Floatzel struggled to get to his feet, having a rather difficult time doing so and his body locked up on him and once again he fell heavily to the ground. Being fully paralyzed meant that he was essentially an easy target for Austin's Pikachu, and the boy, while a bit hotheaded, was definitely clever enough to take advantage of it.

"Pikachu, let's test out your new Electro Ball!" he called. The Pikachu ran forward and jumped up, its clones having vanished after the successful Thunder Wave. The mouse spun around in the air, a sparking ball of energy forming on his tail. He cried out and flung it and it sped downward like a meteor toward the paralyzed Floatzel, who was too busy being paralyzed to even cry out so all he could do was lie there as the electrical ball smashed into him.

Now Katie wasn't sure if Miles was knocked out or not, but she wasn't going to take a chance on it and she really wanted to smack the irritating mouse around a bit. She recalled the Floatzel, not even bothering to clip his poke ball back onto her belt before she was sending out her next Pokemon. "Let's fight fire with fire! Or at least, lightning with lightning. Kord, teach that mouse a lesson, smash it with your Cross Chop!" The young Elekid, still pumped from the time spent with Cable, gave a fierce cry and bolted towards the Pikachu, both arms raised high in the air as he prepared to try and crush the yellow mouse with his signature attack.

For a moment, even Jasmine was a bit stunned by the power of her Empoleon's Surf attack, but she quickly hid her surprise and instead went back to looking confident yet reserved, even if she did feel a bit relieved that Miharu's first Pokemon was looking like it was on its way out. She did feel a bit bad however, as even though she was a steel-type specialist, she did have a soft spot in her heart for Ampharos. Her Empoleon tensed up at the call for Thunderbolt and he moved to dodge, finding the bolt to be significantly weaker than he'd expected and it was rather easy to avoid.

Either the Ampharos could no longer battle or Miharu wasn't going to let her get hurt any more, but regardless, the electric-type was The next Pokemon sent out by Miharu was a bit surprising, and Jasmine narrowed her own eyes, as a Starmie may be tricky for her signature Pokemon to deal with. It launched a powerful Thunderbolt and this one could not be dodged by Empoleon, and he cried out as the electricity coursed through him.

"Counter with Shadow Claw," Jasmine called quickly, realizing that the Starmie was more dangerous than she'd initially thought. The Emperor Pokemon gave a roar and rushed forward, his razor sharp flippers glowing with an eerie dark shadow as he prepared to slash the star shaped Pokemon.

Miharu couldn't help but feel a bit better as Starrie's Thunderbolt was successful, as it looked as though it had did a decent amount of damage to the Empoleon. It wasn't enough to bring it down, however, and Jasmine didn't waste any time in ordering a counterattack. Miharu wasn't sure what kind of a move Shadow Claw was, but judging by the ghostly aura now engulfing the Empoleon's already dangerous-looking flippers, she knew it couldn't be good for her dual Water/Psychic-type.

"Use Camouflage!" she shouted suddenly, knowing it was the only way to protect the Mysterious Pokemon from taking a super-effective hit. Starrie's core gem twinkled again, and it took on a silver sheen, effectively temporarily switching its type from Water and Psychic to Normal. The timing was spot-on, too, as just as the sheen died down, the Shadow Claw hit, or at least it would have if the Shadow Claw wasn't totally useless now.

Both of the pokemon picked themselves up though, the Aipom's smile was a little strained and oddly enough Ace looked more happy as the battle went on. Maybe because it was like he was sort of fighting Robin's starter? If he had been on the team earlier maybe he could have had fights like this all along? That would have been fun. Even if he was having fun though this battle still had a ways to go. He had to keep training anyway for another gym battle he heard was coming up. Two of them so close together? Plus the fact that he had barely made it through the last one to. A lot of training was going to have to happen if he wanted to catch up, he was so far behind the rest of Robin's team it wasn't even funny, at least not to him.

"I knew you wouldn't go down that easy Ace! All right let's see... Flame Wheel! Let's do that!" Robin cheered from the side. In her arms the little fire bug perked up. This is what he wanted to see, those fire moves that seemed to call to him somehow.

"Aipom use Scratch!" The breeder across from Robin shouted as Ace spun around into a flaming ball of fury headed her way. The Aipom stood it's ground a determined look on it's face as it stared down the spinning Monferno. At the last moment though it jumped to the side and slashed it's tail hand across his side with a perfectly executed Scratch attack.

"If you need something to do why don't you visit old friends? They probably want to know how you are doing. Plus they might be able to give you a helping hand in teaching that 'little monster' of yours from eating you alive while you sleep."

"Thanks, that's comforting." Dante muttered to the last part. Still she had a good idea, visit old friends, or maybe make new ones? Well he had some good luck recently making new friends. Even if they did want to meet his non-existent boyfriend right now. Rolling his eyes at that he sighed and kicked the dirt a little. "So that means another boat right yeah?"

"A boat ride would be best. It will be a contained environment for you to try to get a leash on your Deino."

"Well all right. I guess I should tell them I am leaving Sinnoh for a bit." He paused before glancing up at the gentle purple pokemon that had helped him. "Thank you for coming to help me out. It really did help." Getting up he thought about it for a moment before doing something he rarely ever did, he gave the large crescent pokemon a hug. "If you need anything just ask." He muttered before getting up and heading back into the main street.

Popping out of his Flame Wheel Ace stopped and looked down at the perfect Scratch marks on his side. They stung a bit, and he figured they would sting even more if he started to touch them. Growling slightly Ace narrowed bright blue eyes at the Aipom. The Long Tail pokemon just grinned back at him the smile seemingly pasted on his face, and maybe it was? Luffy never seemed to not smile. Still that smile seemed a little smug right now and that was kinda pissing him off, just a little.

"Aipom let's finish this battle off! Use Bounce again!" The breeder was a little smug looking. This battle was going her way though, Robin had just been thrown by that bounce move was all.

"Umm! Ace don't let it go up!" Robin yelled not even sure if that would work. Was her Monferno even strong enough to stop a leap that sent that pokemon that high up? As it turned out as Robin, Zuko, and Luffy found out that Ace was not strong enough. He managed to leap and grab onto the Aipom just as it launched itself up off the ground. The two of them were now doing some sort of flying pokemon imitation. "Um, huh..." Robin wasn't quite sure what to do in this situation. "Roll to pin Ace!" She finally called out. If they could at least be the ones landing on top that might help.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Standing out in the street Dante did feel a bit better, now he had a sort of direction to travel in to. Plus a sort of idea on what to do. Cresselia was right, he did need to use pokemon that were not just Kenny and Apollo. Sure he had used Turn A some, that was mostly just because of the fact that he refused to be put back if Kenny was still out though. Well his strongest pokemon were just going to have to wait while he trained up the others, or in Kali's case to just not attack him on sight. With that goal in mind he stretched a bit before looking into the pokemon center with a frown. He had left his egg in there and he wasn't allowed back at the moment. He probably wouldn't be allowed back in a little while either. Which meant leaving town. Of course since he was going to be looking for old friends anyway he was going to do that anyway.
One problem though ended up solving itself. "You forgot your egg when you got in that fight!" Angelic scolded as she came over to him said egg in her arms. "I understand why you were upset though." She mentioned as she handed the egg over.
"He was drawing on Apollo." Dante muttered before giving her a thankful glance. "Anyway, I got some advice from someone. They said I needed to go to another region that I am familiar with." He paused for a moment, there was a lot of other things Cresselia had said to that he should probably take into consideration. "Want to come?" He muttered after a moment of thought. If he was going to do this he wasn't going to do it in some half assed way.
At the invitation the pretty blond in front of him seemed to brighten up. "Oh of course! Are you going to see your boyfriend." She said slyly as she nudged him.
Oh right they were still on about his imaginary boyfriend, seriously why did he have to be in any relationship. "Maybe." Was all he muttered a bit irritated again.
"Well! If you are you should totally get some gym badges from here before you head off! Come on there is a gym in town and you can totally win!" Angelic was practically bursting with some sort of romantic energy as she proceeded to grab Dante and drag him along behind her.
Even though Kasiya knew that it was probably best if she just left, she found that she couldn't look away from the girl trainer and her Pikachu. They had gone over to one of the vacant couches, and Kasiya couldn't help but feel a tug at her heart when she saw the happy Pikachu perched carefully on the girl's shoulder. She hopped down to the arm of the couch as the girl sat next to her, now saying something but Kasiya couldn't quite hear her. Despite her better judgement, she began to inch closer, stopping only when she heard the girl say the world evolve. Pepper was still resting comfortably in her trainer's arms, though the Minccino didn't understand why her new trainer suddenly looked so very sad.
"We've had this Thunderstone for a long time now, and I think we're ready to use it," the girl said, holding a small pouch in her hand. She dumped its contents into her other hand, revealing a glimmering, greenish stone that Kasiya easily recognized. It was indeed a Thunderstone, and she smiled a bit, feeling both sad and jealous. She'd never had a chance to use her Thunderstone on Shocker, as at the time, the Pikachu had gone through a series of hard losses and was feeling pretty down on herself. When Kasiya was occupied by a battle, she stole the Thunderstone and used it on herself. Kasiya gave a weak smile at the memory, still unable to tear her gaze away from the girl and her Pikachu. How sweet, she thought, studying the Pikachu's reaction. It seemed very excited at the thought of evolving, as sparks were coming from its cheeks and its tail was quivering in anticipation. "Okay then, here we go," the girl said, taking a deep breath. She gently touched the stone to the Pikachu's forehead.
Something about the slug Pokemon the boy had released made Jake feel uneasy. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Jade's Shinx take out the annoying girl's Glameow, only to subsequently knocked out by its replacement Monferno, a Pokemon Jake only recognized due to his brief travels with Robin. Unsurprisingly, Jade had sent out her Psyduck in retaliation, and Jake smiled a bit. They had this. He looked back at the slug as it had been told to use Mud Bomb and his smile faltered a bit as the hard-packed ball of mud sped through the air and smashed into Magnemite, scoring a massive amount of damage and once again sending it into the dirt. This time, however, Magnemite was not getting back up again and Jake had no choice but to recall it. "You did well," he told the Magnet Pokemon, smile returning as he placed the Pokeball back on his belt. He had a feeling that this could end quickly if he were to send out Grotle, but he wanted to save the Grass-type in case he were needed later. "Your turn, Bibarel! Let's try a Hyper Fang," he called, the Beaver Pokemon appearing in a flash of light. The always battle-ready Normal/Water-type didn't hesitate to spring into action, rushing forward, teeth bared as she eagerly tried to sink them into her squishy-looking target.
The girl didn't look to be too impressed by the Water-type that now graced the field, nor was she a fan of the Water Gun that Aquarius had fired off almost instantly. She didn't have to say a word, instead watching intently as her Monferno agilely danced out of the way, grinning devilishly at the Psyduck. The girl remained silent, continuing to grin across the field at Jade, her expression clearly a taunting one, and seeming to say "Is that all you've got?"
Karrigan was amazed at how well she could still smell the ocean even outside of the city limits, and she stopped and looked around at the countryside, able to see that many trainers still remained out here. She wasn't too keen on battling anyone, however, so she went off to an area where she was alone, and a good distance from the other trainers. Once she was there, she released Naga, unable to keep from smiling as the Cubchoo gave a happy cry and hugged her leg. "Naga, it's time for you to meet the rest of your team," she said quietly, deciding to start with her newest addition, Calliope. The Tropius gave a cry, looking around curiously as she took in her surroundings. She spotted the Cubchoo but didn't feel any sort of a threat so she inclined her head in quiet greeting. "Naga, this is Calliope. Not that you knew Zaira, but I traded her to a different trainer a little while ago." Naga waddled up to the much larger Pokemon, reaching out a paw to touch the Tropius. Calliope watched nervously, but quickly decided that Naga meant her no harm and tilted her long neck down so she could see the Cubchoo better.
Karrigan then released Lennier, knowing that the Kadabra would be a relatively safe option to introduce to the group, and he was just that, saying quiet hellos to both of the new Pokemon. The other three were a bit more worrisome, and Karrigan was reluctant to release them, but she knew they had to meet at some point or other. She started with Ikouma, who simply hung back and watched as his trainer released the snooty Vulpix, followed by the massive Onix. Calliope recoiled a bit from the Rock Snake, but after a moment or two, she seemed to realized that Aegeus was rather gentle in nature and meant her no harm. The Onix was already quite familiar with his large size and he'd learned to contain himself quite well. Karrigan smiled warmly at the large Pokemon, and placed a hand on his stony nose as she surveyed the other five Pokemon in the immediate area. She had quite an assortment of Pokemon now, even if she did feel a tad guilty about trading Zaira away. Regardless, she was certain the Shinx would be better off with Kasiya in the long run.
A partially clouded sky covered the bright sun. Treize and his Growlithe, Blaze, can be seen walking down Route 1's path to Veridian City. He had his hands laced behind his head as the two casually walked towards the city. Just then, a light breeze gusts behind the two. Treize stops for just a moment and Blaze looks up to him.
"A nice cool breeze on a cloudy day. Makes me wish we could just hang out here a bit more before we head into the city. Wouldn't you agree, Blaze?"
Blaze agrees with a bark and placing his front paws on his trainer's front right leg. There was some kind of noise that made his ears perk right up. Blaze growls and bolts in the "noisy" direction; barking and growling upon arriving there. A few Pidgeys fly from their feeding spot in a panic. Treize just laughs and smiles.
"Blaze, don't bother those Pidgeys. They did nothin' to ya." He walks up to Blaze to give him a light, playful tap to Blaze's head and chuckles. The hand slowly then guides and pets Blaze's head a few times. His eyes wander upward and spots a tree with a decent shade from it.
"How about we just relax there for a little bit, Buddy?"
The Growlithe gives a quick bark then runs up to the tree to claim his spot before his trainer could. Treize lets out another light laugh then walks up to Blaze; sitting beside his pokemon and inching away from his spot. Blaze growled a bit but it was a playful one. Treize gave Blaze a slight leer then playfully wrestles his Growlithe to the ground - rolling around a bit before stopping with his back to the ground and lifting his pokemon into the air. Treize laughs and so does Blaze. He draws in his pokemon in for a big hug before getting up and reclaiming his spot under the shady tree. But this time Blaze was on his lap and they shared the space together. Treize leans his head against the tree and closes his eyes; his pokemon follows by leaning his head on to Treize's lap to take a nap. They were an unsung pair that knew and understood each other - enjoying their time on a peaceful day.
It had only been an hour since Treize and Blaze took their nap under a tree. Feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, the two headed towards Veridian City.
Once inside the quiet little city, Treize went about scoping what he could see. "Huh, just a pokemart, a few houses, and a gym. Not like we haven't been to Veridian City before but I don't know what I was expecting here. Shall we give the gym a try? Can't hurt since we're here huh, Blaze?" Blaze lets out an eager bark and motions for the gym up ahead. Treize just smirks and obliges his pokemon.
The two arrive at the gym with much disappointment. Right in front of the door was a giant sign that says "Closed".
"Great. First town we go into with a gym and it's closed. Eh oh well. Let's see where we shall head off next."
Treize slides off a strap from his left shoulder and opens up his backpack. He pulls out a Town Map and starts to chart out his next move. "Well we can't go to Indigo Plateau - we're nowhere near prepared for that trek ahead. I guess we can go to Pewter City but we're gonna have to go through the Veridian Forest." The trainer gives a slight frowning smirk. Blaze cants his head upon seeing this. He whimpers and scratches at Treize's leg.
"Oh it's nothing, boy. Just not sure if we'll make it through before the day's end is all." He shrugs and smiles. "But if we don't, we could always camp out." Blaze's face just lights up and he barks a few times in excitement. He had always enjoyed the few times the two had spent nights outside camping in their backyard.
"Well let's get a move on, Blaze. Time waits for no one I suppose!" Treize slings his backpack back on and the two walk in the direction of Route 2.
The sound of the voice made Riza spin around to look for its source, her grey eyes scanning the area. She sighed when she saw a tall, familiar boy standing nearby, and she folded her arms. "Jaden, you startled me," she said, trying to keep her face stern. It was difficult though, as she and her brother were very close and she smiled. "So, what brings you all the way out here?" she asked, gesturing to the area. "Couldn't resist the lure of Diglett's Cave?"
Jaden smirked, and shrugged. "Oh yeah, a whole cave full of holes and Diglett. It's obviously the vacation capitol of Kanto." He looked to the Dratini that he'd given his sister previously, and continued to smile. "So how's the little guy faring?" he asked, even though Dratini themselves weren't entirely little. "And the rest of your team, for that matter." Before giving Faustus to her while playing delivery boy for Clair, the last time he'd seen his sister, her little Cyndaquil had evolved into a Quilava. "And I'm here because I saw your contest on TV last night. Congratulations on the ribbon, little sister. I didn't know you had it in you. Definitely not bad for a debut on the contest circuit."
"Faustus? He's doing well. He helped me to win a Cascade Badge this morning," she said proudly. "It does go very well with my Cerulean Ribbon, thank you," she added, also quite proud of her accomplishments in the contest last night. "We've come a long way in the past little while, but we've still got a long way to go. What about you? Have you decided to resume collecting badges or anything? Got some kind of goal in mind?"
"You have," Jaden remarked, still smiling. "You're not the little girl you were only a few months ago. You've definitely grown." He paused, looking at the route ahead of them. "Me? Nah. I don't really want any more gym badges right now. I'm pretty content just making my Pokemon stronger and meeting new ones for the time being. I'm actually thinking of heading over to Unova or Sinnoh later on. I hear they have some interesting Pokemon over there." He looked back at the Dratini again, and grinned. "I wouldn't mind testing you to see how much you've improved. Last time, we only trained together but I wouldn't mind being a bit more aggressive. What do you say, Sis?"
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Austin called. Pikachu didn't need to be told twice and he gave a cry as he put on a burst of speed and managed to hop back, watching with wide eyes as the Elekid's Cross Chop smashed cracks in the ground he'd just been standing on. The electric mouse continued to dance back, suddenly very wary of the electric-type he was now facing. "Let's try a Slam attack now!" Austin called, not wanting to give the Elekid any ground. The mouse cried up and darted forward, leaping into the air and doing a spin, now attempting to bring its tail down onto Kord with a powerful strike.
"Counter with Electro Ball," Katie shouted quickly, taking a step forward. Sure electric moves weren't that good on electric Pokemon, but it was probably the most forceful, projectile move that the Elekid had at his disposal. The Elekid began to spin his arms rapidly and he quickly built up a ball of electricity that he hurled at the oncoming mouse, hitting it square on as it made its attack. It knocked the Pikachu back but it landed on its feet, eyes narrowed and ears flat as it glared daggers at Kord. 'Hey, this Pikachu has guts, it isn't a spoiled pampered pushover like Mother's.' Katie thought with a grin. She'd never known a Pikachu to have such spirit, but that didn't mean she didn't want to win! "Now follow that up with a Quick Attack!" she called.
Kord, drawing strength from the idea that someday, he'd be as powerful and impressive as Cable, rushed forward with a burst of speed, white light streaming out from behind him. He raced toward the Pikachu, eyes narrowed as he prepared to tackle it to the ground. On the other side of the field, Austin had also called for a Quick Attack and now the Pikachu was racing toward Kord, both Pokemon wearing determined looks.
Jasmine had started to smile in anticipation of the upcoming super effective strike, but Miharu's sudden command caused her to look up, and just like that, the psychic/water-type had become a simple normal-type and Empoleon's Shadow Claw was rendered useless. The Emperor Pokemon looked more than confused as his attack had did nothing and he stared at his flipper in awe, had he done something wrong!? Jasmine, meanwhile, realized something else, however. With the Starmie drastically shifting its type it meant that it was no longer resistant to water and steel-type moves, which were pretty much Empoleon's specialty. "That's okay, Empoleon! We'll just hit 'em hard with something else, like Flash Cannon!"
Empoleon jumped back, his beak upturned into an almost cruel grin. He brought his flippers together, a shimmering ball of steely light forming between them. He then thrust the ball forward, giving a loud cry as it formed into a solid beam of steely energy, headed straight for the now normal-type Starmie.
On the sidelines, Lee let out a low whistle. Miharu was proving herself to be a better and better trainer, and her Pokemon were looking more and more desirable. He looked over at the gym leader, reading her reaction, but she didn't seem rattled, already calling out her next attack. He'd never seen Flash Cannon before, but it was quite impressive, the metallic energy of the beam speeding toward the Starmie. He looked on in anticipation, wondering how Miharu would deal with this one.
Miharu's eyes went wide at the sight of the bright beam speeding toward her Pokemon. She wasn't sure how to deal with this attack, though at the last moment, an idea came to mind. "Light Screen!" she called, knowing it would at least deflect some of the attack away. Starrie, quiet and patient as ever, seemed to know just what to do, as its body shimmered a steely-blue, shifting its type from Normal to Water/Steel. The beam struck square in the middle of the Starmie's body, hitting hard but not doing as much damage as it could of because of the new type match-up. Miharu took out her PokeDex, unsure of what was going on. Apparently Starrie had used a move called Reflect Type to mirror Empoleon's type. She sighed with relief, but she knew this couldn't keep up. She had to go on the offensive, and soon.
Kasiya felt as though she'd been zapped by a Thundershock as she watched the amazing transformation take place in front of her. The tiny Pikachu began to glow, a ripple of electricity passing over its body before its body started to shift and grow. A few seconds later, the small, yellow rodent had doubled in size and taken shape of the familiar Electric-type that Kasiya knew and loved. She was smiling, as even though it was quite difficult to watch, she couldn't help but marvel at the evolution. It pained her because her over-emotional Pikachu had taken it upon herself to evolve, and when she thought about it, all her stone-evolution Pokemon had evolved without her actually using the stones herself. Ariel was trying to hide in my bag when she was playing hide-and-seek with Shocker, and she touched the Water Stone. If she'd touched the Thunder or Fire Stone, she'd be a Jolteon or Flareon right now. It's funny how that worked out, she thought. Pepper gave a small cry and she quickly returned the Minccino to her Pokeball, not wanting for the young Pokemon to see her so upset. She closed her eyes and composed herself, deciding that she should head out of the Pokemon Center when she heard a voice. It was the Pikachu - no, Raichu's trainer, speaking to her. "Hey, I guess you saw the evolution, right?" she asked, looking a little embarrassed.
"I did," Kasiya said, plastering on a winning smile. "Congratulations, Raichu is easily one of my favourite Pokemon." Her comment made the newly-evolved mouse beam with pride.
"Yeah, mine too!" the girl said, also smiling brightly. "Do you have one? A Raichu, I mean. Or a Pikachu?"
"Yeah, I have a Raichu," Kasiya answered before she could stop herself, and she bit her lip. "She's not with me right now, though. We had a lot of big battles so she's staying at a, um, Pokemon spa to get all refreshed and relaxed." She sighed on the inside, mentally scolding herself, but a small lie was better than telling this poor girl her Raichu had been stolen by Team Rocket.
"Oh, that's nice of you," the girl said, nodding. "I'm Elena, by the way. Say, I'm not sure if you'd be up for it, but would you be interested in having a battle with me and my Raichu? We'd like to test out how her new form." The Raichu gave a cry and punched the air.
Kasiya knew if her smile faltered, her heart would crack even more, but she managed to hold it together and she nodded. "Yeah, sure, sound's great," she said, even if it was through grit teeth.
Karrigan carefully studied her newly-filled Pokemon roster, trying to decide the best course of action to train with this seemingly-random bunch. It made sense to her to match up the two Ice-types, especially considering that they had the same Egg Move (learned after Karrigan checked out Naga's available moves with her PokeDex). Ikouma didn't seem to mind, as the Cubchoo was relatively well-behaved and the two of them paired off away from the others. Out of the corner of her eye, Karrigan saw the Sneasel charge up an Ice Punch and smash it into a rock, much to the delight of little Naga. Naga tried to do the same, only her Ice Punch wasn't nearly as strong and it did very little. Ikouma didn't seem to mind, which shocked Karrigan, and she watched curiously as he started to give the little one instruction.
Meanwhile, Amber had sidled up to Calliope and was busily sniffing at the Tropius' large legs. Callie simply looked down at the Vulpix curiously, not sure why the little fox was so interested in her. She craned her neck down to get a better look at the Fire-type, causing Amber to jump back in surprise. When Callie gave her a gentle nudge with her nose, however, Amber seemed to take this as a sign of peace, and went back to examining the larger Pokemon. Meanwhile, Aegeus remained statue-like off to one side, keeping a watchful eye on the party. Opposite him was an equally aware Kadabra, only Lennier was keeping a psychic eye out for trouble as opposed to a physical one.
Riza couldn't help but smirk, as it sounded just like Jaden to not have a plan. His sudden challenge, however, did catch her a bit off guard, but she grinned. "Yeah, sure, sounds all right to me. How many, two each, maybe?" At her side, Faustus quivered a little. Being around this strange human seemed to make the Dratini nervous.
"Yeah, two is fine," Jaden smirked. "Though one will probably be all I need!" He laughed as he chose his first poke ball, revealing none other than his Dragonair. Jaden did not miss it when his sister flinched, and he hoped that she knew that he wasn't planning to go all out, though he wouldn't hold back too much, either. "Go ahead, sis. You can make the first move," he shouted as he put some distance between them.
Riza grimaced but said nothing, instead looking to Faustus. She very much wanted the Dratini to battle but she didn't want to force him, and he looked anything but willing. "Just watch Jaden's Dragonair," she told him. "You can sit this one out." She looked back at the dragon-type, knowing her best bet would be Akima. It would be nice to give the Weavile a chance to battle without it being in a contest, so she released the ice and dark-type. "Okay Akima, let's do this! We get the first move, so start off with Agility. We'll run circles around 'em!" Akima carefully eyed the dragon and looked over at her teammate, sensing some kind of connection between them. Whatever that connection was would have to wait as she loosened her limbs and jogged on the spot, knowing her already impressive speed would be that much better now.
Jaden wasn't too surprised to see his sister's newly evolved Weavile, as it was probably her best choice at this point, at least until her own Dratini became stronger. The Weavile's Agility made him a bit cautious as he already knew it would be difficult to keep up with her. "Go in and hit her hard with Slam!" he called. Dragonair shot forward, eyes fixed on the Weavile. He lashed his tail back and forth, shooting up into the air at the last moment before spinning, his powerful tail coming down hard toward the Weavile.
It was a collision of yellow Pokemon as Kord and the Pikachu crashed head long into each other, and both Katie and Austin watched with anticipation to see which of the electric-types would come out on top. For the moment it appeared to be Kord, who quickly jumped to his feet. Katie reacted quickly, thrusting her hand forward. "Okay Kord, it's time to use Cross Chop!" she shouted. She wanted to get a move on, and this battle was really just taking up her time. Kord gave a cry and slashed downward with both hands, creating an x shape as he chopped at the Pikachu. The mouse's pained cries were enough to signal that it had hit, and as the Elekid backed off, it was plain to see that the Pikachu could no longer battle. Katie sighed as Kord returned to her side, hands raised and electricity passing between his prongs as he prepared for his third and final opponent.
"Okay, okay," Austin said, withdrawing his fainted Pikachu. "I know we said three on three, but my last Pokemon is a Shellos I caught earlier today, and i don't think he'd do very well against your Elekid. I forfeit." Austin bowed his head, and sighed. "You're very tough, and I'm sorry that I underestimated you."
Katie sighed, and Kord relaxed at her side, looking up at her with a wide grin. Katie could respect the boy's call, even deciding to spare him the 'eve a well trained Pokemon can overcome a type disadvantage' speech. "No problem, don't worry about it," she said, smiling at the boy. "Don't underestimate anyone, including helpless-looking little girls." She could also have mentioned that she wasn't even using her strongest Pokemon, but she didn't. "I'll be going now," she said, motioning for Kord to follow her, and she continued on her way. She had a mission to complete and a rendez vous to make.
Jasmine had to hand it to Miharu, as her defensive battling was proving to be very effective so far. Not only that, but shifting the type of the Starmie from water/psychic to normal and then to steel/water had made the match unpredictable. Jasmine smiled to herself, knowing that it was unlikely her Empoleon would win against the Starmie, but again, she could probably soften it up for her next Pokemon. "Okay Empoleon, use Bubblebeam," she called, pointing a stern finger at the star shaped Pokemon. Empoleon stomped forward and unleashed a powerful stream of bubbles at Starmie. He may have been at the disadvantage, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to give it his all.
The two pokemon fought in the air to see who would be the unlucky pokemon to land on the bottom. While Ace had the advantage of being a fighting type the Aipom made up for it by having way more experience of being up in the air. The two wrestled for control as they reached the peak of the jump. Soon wind was whistling by them the other way as gravity took over once more and they were headed towards the ground like some sort of flaming meteor. As they got closer to the ground the fighting got more and more fierce, neither of them wanted to hit the ground, being on the bottom meant game over for either of them. Eventually though neither of them made that choice as suddenly two beams of redlight appeared recalling both of them.
Both Robin and the Pokemon Breeder across from them seemed to have the same idea. No matter which one landed on the bottom one of them was going to get more hurt then a simple trip to the pokecenter could cure. The two of them looked at each other in surprise before grinning at the other. "Looks like we both don't want to see our partners get hurt." The Breeder spoke up.
"Of course not! I don't think the pokemon center can fix broken bones that easily either." Robin tacked that last bit on. She was actually a bit surprised, with her recall she had been expecting to forfit. "So um, I guess you win?" The redhead offered.
"Well, I dunno, it kinda looked like a tie to me." Ampersand chipped in. He had been watching the battle with not to much interest. When you couldn't be a pokemon trainer ever it kind of took the fun out of pokemon after all.
"I guess a tie could work." The Breeder said thoughtfully as she came over to where Robin stood. "Well as a fellow Aipom trainer," She glanced over at the evolved Luffy who was grinning at her from Robin's shoulder. " What's your opinion of how mine is doing?"
"It's great! Yours does moves mine doesn't even know! Luffy and I will have to work on our moves if we want to be the best we can be." Robin didn't even need to think about her answer. She was really impressed by her opponents Aipom and her training and battling style.
The Breeder seemed to beam at the praise before bending down and looking at the baby maybe Larvesta in Robin's arms. "I hope that next time I can have a battle with this little guy."
"Maybe next time." Robin agreed with a grin as she held her newly hatched bug closer to her.
Dante himself had no idea what kind of pokemon gym this was, in fact he hadn't really been aware that there was a pokemon gym here. He wasn't to interested in badges really, mostly just in the TM's and money that they gave him. So when he was dragged through the front doors of this towns gym he wasn't quite sure what to expect. The sight did cause him to groan a bit. The huge fighting mats and large punching bags everywhere formed some sort of half hazard maze. "Great." This was probably a fighting gym, that was his only guess from what the interior.
"Oh this is going to be so much fun. You can show me your battle style some more! Since we know you aren't going to be a contest star anytime soon." Angelic was practically gushing as she started to pull him along again. Soon they were crossing a few mats and Dante was over come with the smell of sweet and other odors that were probably some sort of gym smell.
"Do I have to?" He groaned not caring if he sounded like a little kid being dragged to the dentist.
"Do you have to what? Be scared that you have to face me as your first opponent?" A loud voice boomed above Dante and Angelic.
The two of them looked up and stared as a man in a costume that belonged on TV approached them. "No do I have to be here? I don't want to challenge the gym." Dante muttered trying to ignore the man.
Instead the wrestler let out a booming laugh. " Well that's good, because I would just pound whatever pathetic team you have into the ground."
"Yeah sure whatever. Can we go now?" Dante really wanted to leave this place. For some reason he didn't like gyms, not the pokemon gyms he didn't mind those, people gyms, those were the ones he didn't like.
"No! Your getting this badge to show off to the love of your life!" Angelic protested as she shoved Dante forward.
Since when was Dante's fake nonexistant boyfriend the love of his life? He had no time to question that as the wrestler in the really tight, sweaty and shiny clothing stepped up. "Yeah listen to the little lady, she is tougher then you I bet."
"Sure whatever I don't care." Dante muttered, maybe if he lost he could just leave? "Are we going to battle or what?" Dante asked his new plan to lose this battle now firmly in his mind.
Kressen stared at the pokeball for a moment longer, trying to come down from the high of catching his first pokemon. "I think I'll call her Mateus. What do you think Gigas?" Gigas was basking in the moment of his first victory, but nodded as his trainer asked him about his new teammates name.
Mateus it is then. Man day one and I've already got three pokemon. That's got to be some kind of record, at least for Virdian City. What do you think guys?" He looked around and found that the two girls were gone. Vaguely remembering something about a Pikachu Kressen shrugged and put the pokeball onto his belt.
"Let's go look for them Gigas. There might still be some Beedrill around and we don't want them facing those little buggers alone." Gigas nodded and flexed his muscles feeling confident and strong after his defeat of that dastardly Caterpie. The two turned and set off in the direction they thought the girls went after the Pikachu.
Pupitar wasted no time in his attacks. Chunks of earth were raised into the sky and broken apart as they rained down onto the field. Bubbles and Terrato were going at it, Take Down was again proving to over power the Muk's Pound and knocked him back once again. The attack was taking it's toll however, and the small pig pokemon winced as the recoil from the hit shook through his entire body. He gritted his teeth and was about to continue when small bolder smashed the ground in front of him, and he had to roll to get out of the way of another. Bubbles wasn't so fortunate, as the goop re solidified from the Take Down he felt a series of rocks strike his liquid like sides. The attack was clearly aimed at those two, and Bubbles took the full hit as poisonous ooze splashed around from every rock that struck him and he cried out, that Pupitar was strong. Korra was lucky enough to avoid the onslaught as Newgate seemed to be ignoring her for the moment, but she didn't escape Pet Shop's keen gaze as he soared high above. The cranky Fearow had half a mind to go for that smug Pupitar, but the cute little snowland pokemon with her timid movements and weak heart was just too good to pass up. He sqwaked out his laughter as he suddenly dove down, beak first and wings pulled back, he looked like an arrow raining down from the heavens directly over Korra. The timid ghost however, wasn't so timid at the moment. Having successfully used her Ominous Wind she was feeling more confident, the same kind of confidence she felt during the contest last night, the confidence she felt when she evolved, and feeling so much nicer with her all over stat boost from her last Ominous Wind. The doubt born in her from being abandoned was starting to vanish as she thought about her new Trainer. Sure Crenu was a bit harsh, but he wasn't so bad and he encouraged her even! And even though Pet Shop was confident in his prey technique Korra was well aware of her surroundings. Thankful she wasn't dueling with Newgate, she knew the loud bird was after her now and was lying in wait, her mischievous side starting to show through as she floated there curled and playing the timid role she was so used to playing as her natural state. She had witnessed Pet Shop work before, and anyone who had a brain knew he was going to attack from behind. So the moment he vanished and reappeared for his deadly Aerial Ace, she was already staring him dead on, a blast cold frozen air pouring from her as her Icy Wind hit Fearow dead on, a strong enough blast that it derailed the beak pokemon and sent him flying upwards in a panic as he tried to stop the ice crystals from forming on his feathers. Finally free of the icy grip that had started to come over him he glared down at her angrily, spurred on by her innocent and taunting laughter as she waved up at him. That pokemon was going to pay! Carmen meanwhile had left Crenu's arms and was content floating around him, hovering in circles around his feet playing in her own little world. Korra was supposed to be practicing Ominous Wind and not Icy Wind, but Crenu allowed this without saying anything as he was impressed with her sudden burst of attitude.
