Of course, she couldn't be quite so lucky. Then again, if the Dream Lady was to be believed, Vanni hadn't even been gone ten seconds, regardless of how long the journey had felt. It felt like it had been months since she'd last faced the Duskull. Green eyes narrowed, she spoke. "Joyous. Culann, pull back and loop."
The firedog, newly healthy and flush with color, gave a firm nod, and changed direction. It was odd-- he'd begun this battle defiant and ignoring his trainer, but he couldn't find it in himself to bridle at her orders. Perhaps he was getting used to this "human" thing. But that didn't mean he wouldn't be burning this ghost when the time came! And with his new move...

">No no no no! DIE DIE DIE!!!<" The Duskull screamed, his ghostly body wavering like a sheet as his emotions took hold of him. This wasn't how it was supposed to go! This wasn't how it was supposed to be!

Vanni watched as her Growlithe swiftly avoided the Duskull's ghostly blaze. The poor creature was clearly in the middle of a mental breakdown, and if she had the time, she would have tried talking the thing down. But for now, Vanni had a goal in mind, and she had no sympathy to spare for a ghost that wouldn't stop screaming about killing her. "Well done, now let's test out that Flame Charge, shall we?"
Culann didn't need to be told twice. Not halting in his run lest his stall the momentum, he turned and rushed right at the Duskull. Now, what had that TM taught him...? Sparks once again appear on his fur, but instead of that familiar five-point star, it twisted into something of a protective loop. He charged at the screaming Duskull, determined to quiet it!

Nothingness, that was all the Growlithe would be met with, like passing over a shadow rather then through it. Yet the Duskull had not merely disappeared as one might predict; rather he had risen higher into the air, his single eye spiralling rapidly behind his mask, only brief glimpses of it appear in the actual sockets. Round the spectres body shadow began to fall away like dust, swirling as his negative emotions began taking physical form. He was long passed a mere mental breakdown, at this point he had sped head first into outright madness.
Power would begin condensing around the Pokemon's mask, the right eye socket beginning to glow as his eyes finally ceased it's spinning. The gaze of which he now looked upon Culann was not that of an enemy, but of the reaper. ">DIE<" A command rather then a statement, and one he fully intended to make good on as a black beam of negativity shot forth from his eye and at the young Growlithe. Night Shade taken up a notch, though the results would remain the same so long as it made contact.

Culann snarled as the Duskull floated away, wearing insanity like a ragged mantle. Personally, he felt his mad trainer pulled that kind of hounded insanity off better, but he wasn't one to judge. Just fight. He pawed the ground, awaiting orders.
Vanni, meanwhile, showed no fear as she observed the Duskull's actions. It's speech had degraded as it's behavior had-- flailing, longing for destruction, and not being able to go through with it. Even this attack seemed weak, as if the creature could hardly hold on for the dark emotions that consumed it. Madness was all well and good, but you needed to be able to control it-- contain it-- use it. And though this creature had a goal, it wasn't getting it's point across. Perhaps it was time of a calculated risk with a move she knew she could trust... "Flame Blitz and finish this. It won't be able to endure another hit."
The Growlithe blinked in surprise. Had she actually chosen an attack over a defensive maneuver? A slight grin graced his wolfish maw. So she did have some bite in her! Good, she'd need it. Culann raced forward to meet the spectral figure, hoping to push past the weak Night Shade and put this ghost out of their misery.

A well placed maneuver, but no more successful then that of the gibbering ghoul. When both attacks failed in their own way, the Duskull's eye would begin glowing a brighter red. Finally, the spectre would very calmly float down, placing himself directly in Culann's face, and screaming at the top of his lungs ">WHY WON'T YOU DIE!!!?<" See. Perfectly calm.

Culann was most frustrated at his failed attack than any gibbering ghoul. This creature was being to tired him. He didn't flinch when the Duskull choose to wail hysterically directly in front of him, preferring blank look of utter boredom whiles his fire flickered on his fur. [I have better things to do,] he answered honestly, tail lashing like a whip.
His trainer sighed. At least her risk hadn't resulted in any damage to her Pokemon-- counters were a tricky business even when she wasn't facing a completely insane ghost that apparently longed for everything's death. "Flame Charge," she commanded calmly, hoping that Momo's new move would end this battle.
Nodding to acknowledge the command, the Growlithe leapt right at the hovering Duskull. Perhaps it wasn't the most tactically sound thing to place yourself right in front of your opponent... but Culann wasn't expecting sound reasoning from this creature.

Fire and ghostly aether dissipating around him, Culann shook out his fur with a huff. That hadn't been a hard battle, really, but it had been long and boring. At least he'd managed to end it with some flare. He trotted back to Vanni's side. [Not bad, girlie, we'll make a fighter of you...] he trailed off, shaking his head. Without the mystic power of the Dream World, his voice came out a loud if friendly barks. [Right. Can't understand me now, can you?]
Vanni, meanwhile, was watching the spot where the Duskull had been. Culann's new toy, while not quite as destructive as his old one, eradicated the ghost. But was it dead? Could you kill ghosts, even? Shaking out her head, she glanced down at her Pokemon, who was plainly trying to get her attention.. "Sorry, dear. Still half-asleep, I guess. You were magnificent!"
The Growlithe sighed, then lightly knocked into her hip with an affectionate headbutt. Communication would have to be nonverbal for now.
At least the point had gotten somewhat across. Vanni gave him a smile before recalling him, feeling confident enough to walk through the sewers on her own. Cane in hand, she started back on her quest.

Vanni padded along the sewerline quietly. Despite the amount of time she'd spent in this place, she hadn't seen hide nor hair of the Joltik she was supposed to be looking. Then again, Alicia had made it seem like she might need to go further down and further in to find the source of their battery theft problem... if Joltik were the souce of the problem, as they suspected. Hoped. She still remembered the car battery
What Vanni would encounter next was nothing short of a wonder. An enigma wrapped up in a greasy plastic bag. Reeking almost as much as a Grimer, the creature donned a pair of dusty mirrored sunglasses and an old piano tie with what appeared to be a bite taken out of it. That was to say what now stood before Vanni was a Trubbish...one which looked as if he'd just stepped out of an eighties bar...or more likely been thrown out. With breath that smelled like mouldy grilled cheese the Poison-Type appeared to be, for all intents and purposes, 'partying down' in the middle of the pathway.

Vanni watched the strange Trubbish with a curious light in her eyes. Oh, had there been a party? And she'd missed it! How awful; parties were fun, even if she did tend to spend most of them sitting in the back of the room, watching people until her aunt convinced her it was scaring away the guests. It wasn't her fault they had a low tolerance for tiny staring girls. Cowards.
But that still left the matter of the boogieing Trubbish. And a polite party guest could never allow the dance floor to be occupied by a lone dervish! Humming cheerfully, Vanni spun forward, her feet falling into the pattern of a waltz. Even without someone to lead (for a lady only rarely took the lead during a ball; someone graceful had to perform the trickier backwards steps), she still remembered the steps. She lightly danced towards the Trubbish, unsure if she was meeting him as a partner or attempting to get past him.
Rather then dancing with Vanni or attempting to get in her way, the Trubbish would halt all movement. The Poison-Type's shades would fall slightly, and Vanni would find the creature simply looking at her. It was a stare of a thousand miles...and a thousand nights not sleeping because of too much espresso. Really the Trubbish had bags under it's eyes big enough for trash day. Staring. It'd just keep staaaaaaring.

It was odd haw naturally she feel into the steps of the waltz. Admittedly, it wasn't like Vanni had ever had a problem with learning how to dance-- she complied with most of her auntie's teachings out of bored and filial piety-- but it wasn't a skill she'd thought she'd use at the Academy. She'd almost started to enjoy the odd dance when she felt something strangely powerful boring a metaphorical hole in her uniform. On a spin, she saw the Trubbish's intense gaze, and understood. Was this was comedic ironic felt like? It tingled. Well, Vanni was never one to turn down a strange challenge. She came a halt, feet in third position, and settled into a stance. Green eyes curious and calm, she stared right back at the Trubbish, gaze full of misplaced enthusiasm and interest.
It was a battle of wits! Or perhaps more accurately, a battle of the witless.

After what was likely ten to fifteen minutes of straight starring, the Trubbish would, while still maintaining perfect eye contact, throw his arms up into the air and exclaim ">Dude, you threw off my grove!<" His face would flush as a result...though after a minute of not fading it would suddenly become clear he wasn't just mad at the girl's intrusion. Slowly the living trash bag would begin to sweat, and with each drop which fell off his body a miniature explosion would occur on the floor around him. Apparently there was more then a few volatile chemicals mixed in with this garbage!
