Jaxon continued to watch with tacit awe as the extremely toned fella was first thrown around by that monstrous Pokemon, and not too long after returned the favor more or less unaffectedly. His mind couldn't formulate a single word or expression in his mind, simply watching and absorbing it all like a sponge. Even astonished as he would, he wouldn't miss such an elusive demonstration from the big boss himself -- Jaxon was always bright when it came to learning and applying what he had been taught.
The stoic man didn't even flinch upon the crash, his perpetually smoldering golden eyes evincing the admiring respect he held for his boss. Finally, upon the man's apparently subduing of the Machamp, he clapped politely and briefly. "I doubt anyone could best you, with that kind of might combined with your intellect," he said, his cool, quiet voice void of any insincere attempts of flattery -- Jaxon was simply speaking the truth as it was. He wasn't the type to kiss up to authority; rather, he'd work hard to gain their acknowledgment. Women, of course, were of a different matter -- flight-hearted creatures like those he did not acknowledge himself. "My thanks for the lesson."

Both Mike and Portabello remained stoic and motionless as the steel mantis Pokemon shot forward. The boy's eyes slowly moved to his Pokemon then back at the bull-rushing Scizor. Wait for it. Mike thought simply, knowing his Pokemon knew what to do from there.
The Breloom's gaze was attentive and focused. As the opposing Pokemon rushed forward, Portabello closed his eyes in concentration, the air around his right claw began to ripple in what looked like waves of heat. He did nothing to evade the attack, but flinched slightly as the Scizor's sharp claw swiped the top of his cap; small blades of grass littering the air. The attack stung and he knew the next hit would only be worse, but she was right where he wanted her. With a devious smirk Portabello ducked down, throwing back his now shimmering right claw as he quickly adjusted his cap with his left. A loud bang could be heard as Portabello's glowing fist was propelled forward, his attack creating a small shockwave in its wake, almost like a sonic boom. With a loud grunt the Pokemon shot out a stretched arm with alarming speed: a Dynamic Punch. Portabello aimed for his opponent's chin, hoping to use the Scizor's offensive zeal and lack of preparation against her.

Kilik winced when his Pokemon was hit and also took a moment to shield himself from the blinding flash of light that followed. "Scizor!" he barked when he dropped his hands to the side. The boy groaned. Across from him, Scizor was struggling to stand. The hit had knocked her for a loop, that's for sure. For a moment, she had no idea where she was or who she was for that matter. The Pokemon was very confused.
"Alright...I'm going to have to play this just right..." Kilik placed a hand on his chin and closed his eyes. Suddenly, a pounding pain went right through his head. Too much to bare, in fact. Immediately when the pain passed, he opened his eyes to get away from Scizor's mind. So much for that, he thought, stumbling for a moment. "Scizor, focus as best you can and attack with another Fury Cutter!"
With a nod, she tried to focus on her opponent, but it just wasn't happening. She raised her claw to hit Breloom, but only succeeded in hitting herself in the head. The Pokemon took a few steps back, shuddering. This was not good.
"Damn..." Kilik whispered under his breath.

"Why don't we start things off with a Blaze Kick!" Kristy commanded obnoxiously pointing a finger in Ivy's direction. "Burn it to a crisp! This'll be a piece a cake!" And with that command the large fire creature swooped down upon Ivy like some starving Spearow attack a poor Weedle. It brought it's leg up, spontaniously combusting into flames, and made a quick sweep at Ivy's right side.
Ivy rolled over now several feet away after being struck with the super effective hit. The attack had done much damage as both trainer and Pokemon had underestimated the speed of Kristy's Blaziken. "Toxic!" Mitsu shouted trying to regain control over the battle somehow. Her opponent was completely overpowering her as it was and it had only been moments into the battle. Ivy growled as he shot two globs of sticky, icky, gooey poison from his parttly blooming bud at the overgrown chicken. The first sloop of poison missed as Blaziken masterfully dodged the attack. And it looked like the second missed as well as Blaziken began to dodge and prep for another Blaze Kick as instructed by his master. Both blobs landed with an unforgiving plop to the side, completely missing thier targets.
Mitsu gritted her teeth, trying to think on her feet. "Ivy, Razor Leaf now!" she called out, trying to keep her voice as even as possible. Several leaves shot out from Ivy's growing leaves near his pink bud. The seemed to float in the air as if held by psychic powers before flinging themselves across the now dwindling space between Ivy and Kristy's fire Pokemon. Mitsu smiled, almost cheered, as the attack. . . completely missed the Blaziken.
Kristy gawked then laughed so hard that she was doubling over. "You missed!" she howled.
"Did he?" Mitsu questioned. The next few moments happened almost in a blur as the so-called missed attack bombarded into the poisonious goo causing it to splatter all over the field. A nice shot or two clipped the fire brand's chest and even more got caught over it's legs. Wincing, but mainly unfazed by the attack, the Blaziken scored another hit onto Ivy who by now had suffered much damage.

In the far distance, M.A. could sort of, kind of make out two trainers battling it out, but she wasn't being too keen at the moment and thus did not realize it was Mitsu.
Daemyn rested amiably on her lap, although he was growing so big that he could only fit his head and his forelegs. When they first met a year ago, he used to be tiny enough to drown in her lap. "You're not going Clifford on me, are you?" the girl smiled, rubbing his head fondly before rummaging through her bag from her brush. Seeing Michael's Pokemon in such great shape made her feel a bit guilty for grooming her Pokemon so little. But wait, as a trainer, conditioning wasn't all that important. Yet still she felt the urge to let their inner beauty reflect outside, to have them radiantly healthy and strong... No, that isn't that odd, right? Of course any trainer would want his/her Pokemon to be healthy and happy.
... Mary-Anne was beginning to realize the self-denial she'd cast on herself.
In any case, soon she'd finished cleaning up her three. Tora would not stay still at all (it turns out she was reeeally ticklish underneath), Daemyn quietly enjoyed the massage, growling softly, and Ulani practically died of pleasure; cleaning herself up was normal and good and all, but to have M.A.'s gentle hands do it! Maybe it was in her genes somehow. Michael had a magic touch too, although his was on a different level.
A long time ago, the girl had wanted to be a coordinator just like her brother. And then she stopped wanting to be a coordinator because of her brother, too. No, not because of jealous or any of the bad stuff; she was always proud of my bro, and he always supported her directly or indirectly. But the sense of failure had traumatized her that one time, so long ago. Was she ten then? Eleven? The coordinating world saw not Mary-Anne, but the rising star Michael Saebum's little sister. A stronger persona might have shrugged it off and continued on, but M.A. was certainly not that sort of assertive, goal-minded person, at least not back then.
But while she was grooming her Pokemon now, she thought not of that instance, but only of her Pokemon enjoying this sense of not only looking but feeling their best. It was pretty nice, to say the least.

Mike simply grinned a smug grin as he watched the Scizor smash itself in the face. "Blind offense won't work when your opponents share a mental link, Kilik." He tapped his head by way of instruction, showing off somewhat to the growing crowd of people gathering around them. "You need tactics to fight me and Portabello! We make an invincible team!" He ate all the attention up with a proverbial spoon as he crossed his arms in a somewhat showy manner. While he was being flashy, there was a reason to his taunting.
At that moment, the Breloom lowered his head. A thick yellow haze began pouring out from the two large porous openings on his cap: a Stun Spore. The paralyzing cloud drifted across the battlefield, creeping slowly to the disoriented Scizor. Confusion and Paralysis, quite an evil combination, master. Portabello thought, casually glancing back at his trainer.
Oh yes, Mike replied. But this will teach Kilik that not every trainer fights the same with all of their Pokemon. That's a fact I want him to be clear on so he doesn't learn it when it's too late. The boy laughed, enjoying the position of 'mentor' he had just slapped on himself. But keep up the pace Portabello. You're doing great. Mike smiled once more, he was so proud of his Pokemon.

One Pin Missile wasn't going to be enough to stop the Crawdaunt though, as suddenly the crab came charging forward, swinging its heavy appendage at Flash with all its might. Eyes wide, Flash deftly hopped backwards, narrowly avoiding being hit by a powerful Crabhammer attack. Grunting in annoyance at having missed, the Crawdaunt reared back and swung again; this time the attack was fairly easy to avoid due to how reckless the Crawdaunt was attacking. Taking the opportunity to get in a quick attack, the Jolteon fired off a fairly mild Thundershock attack at the crab, hoping it wouldn't be blocked by Protect again. The Crawdaunt grunted again and shivered, static clinging to its body as it fought off the effects of the attack. "Bubblebeam, now!" Nameless Trainer roared, slamming his fist into his own palm. Another stream of bubbles were sent towards Flash, who got hit in the hindquarters as he attempted to dodge again. This time, the Jolteon loosed a Thunderbolt at his trainer's command, and to his delight, it hit as well. The stronger electric attack seemed to stagger the large crab for a moment, and as a sudden crackle of static energy coursed over its body both Nameless Trainer and Kasiya became aware that it had been afflicted with paralysis.
Levi let out a cry and clapped her flippers together at the sight of her teammate battling - she couldn't wait until she was out there fighting strong foes like that too! A pang of guilt went through the Marshtomp as she looked up at her trainer, finding herself a bit torn. Sure, this new girl was very kind and a good person, but she missed Dante and all the adventures they had together. Sighing, the little Marshtomp clapped again as she watched the Jolteon sidestep a poorly aimed Bubblebeam and counter with another volley of Pin Missiles. Regardless, she would make Kasiya proud, so that someday Dante could see just how great she'd become.

Her body froze up as the Stun Spore came into contact with her body. Moving became difficult and it only added to her disorientation. The Steel-type clamped her pincers shut and glared daggers at Breloom. So that's how he wanted to play, huh? She took a labored step forward. Guh... Kilik thought, rubbing his forehead, I hate to say it but Portabello's got the upper hand here. And sadly... he held up his hand. The rain was stopping now but the clouds still remained. Fine then.
"Being Paralyzed is definitely a downer," Kilik called, "And you're obviously faster than me now. So, it's worth a shot. Scizor, fight it! Use your Quick Attack! She closed her eyes tightly and let out an almost scream. Trying to break out of the confusion as well as fight off the paralyze status was one of the hardest things she'd ever go through. Through a miracle, she managed to burst into a dash, light streaming behind her, with her claw extended to aim straight for Breloom's chest.
====*=====*====
Giovanni looked over at Jaxon and smirked, then straighted up from his position. "Now then, keep your training up. You're definitely going to need it for the battle against those kids, whether it be fists or Pokemon." He recalled his Machamp and clipped the ball back to his belt. Silently, he walked over to his pile of clothes and pulled his white shirt on, buttoning top to bottom.
"Be swift," he said after he tied his tie and pulled his orange coat on. He buttoned the coat and walked quietly out of the training room. A light smile played on his lips.

Let's try out that new move I got for you Portabello. Mike suggested, thinking back to the TM he bought no less than a half an hour ago. I think you'll like it. The boy almost giggled like an anxious schoolgirl as he thought of what was going to happen next.
Portabello closed his eyes, searching into the depths of his mind. TMs were tricky to find the first time, at least for him. The Breloom's mind was filled with so many thoughts that it was easy to lose himself in them. He racked his brain, and poked around, trying to find something he didn't recognize; something new. Aha! The Pokemon exclaimed, smiling at the discovery. He did like it. Portabello began to wave his hands slowly, channeling the power of his new move as the Pokemon lunged right at him. Seconds before impact, he threw his hands up, erecting a shining green spherical barrier around him. The Scizor's claw impacted with the shield, the Breloom squinting at the crackling light in reaction to the hit. Aside from momentary visual disorientation he was completely unfazed. Portabello blinked a few times, he would have to work on that move a bit more, but very much liked it.
Another smug grin played on the boy's lips.

Kilik clenched his fists and growled quietly. He decided to drown out the bits of laughter from the crowd and dug his foot into the mud. Protect? Are you serious? He straightened up and sighed, closing his eyes. He started to laugh. "Man oh man. I never thought I'd actually get this irritated in a battle. And yet Portabello has managed to pull it off," he ran a hand through his now-drying hair, "But this is the most fun I've had in a while. Thanks, Mike! Scizor, I want you to go with Quick Attack one more time," he punched forward.
Really? Again? A chill went down her spine and once more, she tried her best to break out of the confusion. The small birds that only she can see fluttered away. If she could smirk, she definitely would be doing so. Yet that feeling of victory would be short lived. As she tried to break into that Quick Attack, her legs instantly locked up and she fell face first into the mud. A small crackle of electricity sparked up from her body as she struggled to get back up. So much for that.
Damn! the boy thought, If she takes another hit like that Dynamic Punch, it'll be trouble. Yet, she should be fine for another few neutral hits from other moves, right? He nodded. After the Punch and a hit on her own person, Scizor still had a little bite left in her. This was going to be tense.

"I think it's time to put an end to this," Kasiya said then, her voice almost bored. She glanced down at Leviathan and winked. "Flash, Thunderbolt. I'm tired of looking at that thing," she grumbled, flicking her wrist in the Crawdaunt's direction. Flash was quick to summon another bolt of electricity, and in the crab's weakened state there was nothing it could do to stop it. Nameless trainer only groaned and called back his Pokemon, kicking the ground with his shoe.
"I guess that last fight wasn't a fluke," he said, disappointment clear in his voice. "Maybe you really are worthy of being a Gym Leader's kid."
Kasiya scoffed and looked at Flash as he came to sit next to her side. "And don't you forget it," she said, grinning at him as he made a move to turn on his heel and go. "Hey wait a sec," she called. "What about your name? You said you'd tell me what it was if I won."
"Oh yeah," he chuckled, turning around and stuffing his hands into his pockets. "My name is Mark."
"Mark, eh?" Kasiya said, nodding. "It's nice to have a name to call you by, rather than the other things I was using."
That comment made him laugh out loud. "I would like to ask you a favor though, Kasiya," he said, looking at the ground again. "But we should get to the Pokemon Center and get our Pokemon treatment first."
"Good idea," Kasiya said, recalling both Flash and Levi as they started to walk. Nothing was said between the two as they reached the red-roofed building and went inside, where they both handed over four Pokeballs. Levi and Seto didn't need any healing, only the others did. "So what was it you wanted to ask me?" she asked, wandering over to a vending machine and putting in a few coins. A bottle of root beer then tumbled out and she took it, enjoying how cool it felt to the touch. She opened the cap and had a sip, eying Mark as she waited for him to respond.

Jaxon nodded curtly in response to Giovanni's words, saluting as his boss left. "Well, you heard the man," he said, casting his glance to his Pokemon who had stood to the side, watching as well. They were exhausted now, but watching that spar fired their motivation up. A slight smile fell upon his lips as he watched his Pokemon listen to him alertly; as small as the motion was, it worked to break down his stone-like expression into something near human. "Back to work; Emma, I'll take you now, and Christine, take Chels-" he paused, frowning at the mix-up; his most devoted Pokemon, his Hitmonlee, had had his name derived from some other source. "Chad, I meant."

Ryka perked up upon hearing her friend return. Her face smoothed out into a cheeky smile. "Yes, new friends... new friends are nice." She nodded in compliance with her statement. Just a plain, simple statement, but one that was deep to her. "I'd love to see some of my old friends too. It's sure been a while.. I miss Kassie a lot. I hope she's doing well... but I'm sure she'll be there. She wouldn't miss it for the world." A small smile escaped Ryka's lips. Although she didn't take any notice, her hand was making silly patterns on Iris' head. Iris, in fact, quite enjoyed this gesture. She had settled down on the arm of the sofa and taken to cleansing her paws.
"Oh, of course! I'm so sorry, don't let me keep you here!" Ryka quickly scrambled to her feet and gave Jaeshan a small bow. Iris jumped at this swift motionand, startled, hid behind Ryka's now-standing feet. "We can go there right now if you'd like. Or you can always go by yourself too, of course." Realizing his other statement, she added, "It's quite a feat, to get so many from different regions.. I hope to someday, as well."
His next gym is Erika's gym? Ryka tried to hold back a giggle, but it somehow escaped. "I'm sure you know all about the rules for her gym, right? I do recall having many people sneaking in.. Erika would get so mad." Recalling the look of anger on the gentle flower girl's face made Ryka giggle more ferociously. "But when that time comes, I'd be glad to help. It does sound fun, really..."

Mark said nothing right away, and simply put a few coins of his own in the vending machine. He took a grape soda from the small door at the bottom and opened it, having a long drink before he looked at Kasiya again. "First, I wanted to apologize," he said, setting his drink down on a table and opening his backpack. "I didn't mean for both my Pokemon to attack your Larvitar like that. I don't even know what move that was my Dragonair even used." He rummaged around for a moment or two before coming up with something, which he held in his hand. "I know that someday your Larvitar will make an awesome Tyranitar, and I want to help. Give her this and it should make her Rock Slide and Ancientpower attacks a bit stronger."
Kasiya took the small, round object in her hands, turning it over a few times. She'd heard of items like these; certain ones were geared towards specific types. She remembered the piece of Charcoal that Keegan wore around his neck which had previously belonged to Helios, and also that Nitro had one too. The boost in power wasn't nearly as significant as say a Thunderbolt coming from an Electric-type, but it was still something. "Thanks," I don't know what to say," she said blinking at the Hard Stone. It dangled from a strong cord and looked like it had been rarely used.
"Say you'll help me?" Mark shrugged, tucking a wisp of dark hair behind his ears. "It's nothing really that big, I promise."
"Okay, shoot," Kasiya said, wandering over to the front desk as she awaited the return of her Pokemon. She was very worried about her Pokemon; Ada in particular. She'd been hit by a Crabhammer and some other Water-type attack from the Dragonair, but even she didn't know what it was. Please be okay, Ada! I need you for that gym battle tomorrow! At that thought, her eyes opened wide, and she felt another pang of guilt shoot through her chest. This would be the third gym match that Shocker would miss. She's gonna fry me when she finds out, the girl thought sadly, but shook it off. There were still tons of gyms out there, and the moody Raichu would have plenty more chances to show off her skills.
Mark seemed to share Kasiya's worry, but she figured he was concerned for his own Pokemon. As much as a cocky jerk as he seemed, she was starting to get the idea that it was just a facade he put up to appear tough. "When our Pokemon are fully healed, would you... would you... help me evolve my Machoke?" he asked finally, looking a bit sheepish. "I'd get my other friends to help, but the problem with that is I don't have other friends."

Kasiya smiled, holding back the smart-a** comments that seemingly flooded her mind - now it seemed she'd been hanging around Keegan for too long. "It's no problem," she said reassuringly. "Earlier today I helped a friend evolve his Graveler to a Golem, and a while ago, I helped a friend with her Kadabra..." she trailed off then, deciding not to say anymore. All she needed to do now was help someone evolve a Haunter and she'd somehow feel complete. "And you don't need to worry about me running off with it either," she added. "I wouldn't trade any of my Pokemon for anything."
"Good to know," Mark chuckled, running a hand through his dark hair. "And thanks. After everything, I wasn't sure you'd be willing to help me. I haven't exactly been the nicest of people when we met before."
Kasiya shrugged. "Well, first and second impressions don't often tell much about a person." She was interrupted as a tone sounded, and the nurse came back into the room holding two trays of Pokeballs.
"Everyone is fully healed and doing well," she said cheerfully, passing the proper trays to the right trainers.
"How's my Larvitar?" Kasiya asked, still a bit worried. She was careful to fasten each sphere to its correct place on her belt, and she felt a little more complete with each clicking sound she heard.
"She's a little worn out but it's nothing a good night's sleep won't cure," she said, nodding. Both Kasiya and Mark thanked her as she went off to take care of her other duties.
"Ready?" Kasiya asked, looking over her shoulder at Mark as she made her way over to the trade machine, still sipping her root beer. It was a nice treat after a long day.
"Yup," he replied, holding up his Machoke's Pokeball before setting it into the tray. "We've been wanting to do this ever since he evolved from Machop, just never had anyone to help," he said, shrugging.
"Well, I like to help," Kasiya smiled, placing Seto's Pokeball into the tray opposite Machoke's. She nodded towards Mark, who pulled the lever, and just like earlier, the two Pokeballs were pulled up into the machine. Both trainers eyed the screen as images of a Machoke and Persian appeared, before phasing in and out then swapping places. With a soft humming sound, the two Pokeballs were then dropped down back into the holding trays. Kasiya felt her heart rate pick up as she took the Machoke's Pokeball in her hand and released the Superpower Pokemon, who at first looked at Mark, then to his temporary trainer in confusion. "It's all right," Kasiya told the Pokemon softly, as its body was suddenly engulfed in a bright, white light.
=-=-=-=-= Jaeshan just smiled at Ryka's comments. "I'm sure with you there they won't have a problem letting me into the gym," he said, shrugging. "Besides, I heard that boys were allowed to challenge Erika, just not become members of her gym." He was quiet for a moment, and then stood up. "Let's go then," he said suddenly, a bit surprised at himself. "There's a badge in this town with my name on it. After that, we can just hang out and whatnot and figure out how we're going to get to Slateport for the Party!" He grabbed Ryka by the hands and twirled her around a few times before stopping, where he kissed her hand gently and grinned. "I'm sure you could handle Roxanne as well, if you really wanted to."
Then, wearing a grin that was much like that of a schoolgirl, he laughed gleefully and dashed out the front doors. It was evident by the trail of dust he left behind that he was heading towards the Rustboro Gym. "Roxanne, you'd better prepare yourself!" he called, causing several people to look at him funny.
