Cody smiled. "Okay," he agreed. "Once Dari gets back, we can make cookies." He nodded in agreement then. "Yeah, he is. I'm really lucky to have met him."

"He's completely lovesick, I have to say," Toby admitted, "I've never seen him like this before." Wet ingredients began to mix with dry. "You're good for him. He's happier than he's ever been."
Of course his human form helped too.

Cody smiled brightly. "I've never been as happy as I've been with Dari," he said. "That's why I introduced him to my parents. I really think he's the one." Whether it was fate, luck, some god he'd gotten on the good side of... Meeting Dari had been the best thing to ever happen to him.
"I don't want him to freak and think it's too soon though. So don't mention it?"

Toby smirked.
"He actually told me that you told his parents he was 'the one.' So he knows." Somehow. Had he overheard? Cody seemed to want to keep this especially secret. "I won't mention it, though. Promise."
He popped open the bag of chocolate chips, ate two, and then began to measure them and hand the cup to Cody.

"He knows?!" Cody's eyes were wide. And Dari hadn't mentioned anything? So it hadn't scared him? Maybe he could give Dari a promise ring then? "So he didn't flip. I thought six months might be too soon to declare intentions..."
He took two chocolate chips off the top of the proffered cup and then dumped it into the mix.

Toby nodded and refilled the cup halfway.
"Yeah." The day Cody had brought Dari out to meet his parents it had been right after that. "No, not at all. He seemed pretty pleased with himself, actually." Toby chuckled. "Six months is quick, but I also think that when you know, you know. It's funny that his first boyfriend would be the one he went head over heels for."

Cody smiled slightly. "I hope first and last," he said. "Honestly, I've never felt this strongly about anyone. When did you know Maia was the one for you?" He took the half cup of chocolate chips and poured it into the mix.

"I think I ignored it a long time," Toby said as he began to stir the mix. "Then one night we went out dancing and it just hit me that I needed to make it official, right now. We'd been together a while, though."
In other words, please wait, Cody. God help them if Cody proposed now.

"Oh, hm. Wasn't it last year you got together?" Hadn't Dari mentioned that? Or maybe he'd just assumed. "I don't think I could tell him any of this," He admitted. "I get so excited introducing him to new things I forget about the little things." And he was shy. And their relationship still felt so new and fragile. One wrong move and it felt like it'd fall apart.

Oh good. Toby completely ignored the comment on time and started preparing a baking tray.

Cody fetched a spoon and prepared to drop dough onto the tray. "Yeah. I really enjoyed buying him things he'd never tried before and sharing them with him."

Unfortunately Toby couldn't talk about why Dari had missed so much and was so apparently sheltered. He left it as it was and smiled, sliding the tray over to Cody. He wished he could share how much he loved other people's firsts too, but he couldn't.
Rather than ask about Cody's parents, Toby changed the subject to a more casual topic. "So we think we're going to get married on Maia's beach."

"In Oregon? That'll be beautiful," Cody smiled. "A wedding where you two first met. That's lovely, Toby." He began to drop dough onto the tray, four cookies in a row.

Toby laughed. "Thank you. I thought it was appropriate. You'll be invited, of course. It'll be in spring." He was subtly including an assurance to Cody: you will still be Dari's in a year.

"It's a great idea. I think if Dari and I ever get married, it'd have to be up on our mountain..." Their first kiss had been there! He caught Toby's meaning and beamed. "I'd love to come."
