"I'm glad you think so," Toby said. He seemed to be saying that a lot lately. "I certainly like them. I think I'll keep them around." All of the contents of the bag had been taken out. So Cody was rather organized! He had all of these things at his own house, but Cody had prepared and packed everything beforehand.
"Okay, where's this recipe?"

Cody dug into his pocket and offered a piece of paper to Toby. "I really do appreciate it," he said, smiling at Toby.

Toby just smiled to Cody as he handed over the recipe and Toby read it over. "This looks like a good one." He set the recipe down gently and began collecting the bowls they'd need and a couple of cookie sheets.
"So are you hanging in there without Dari?"

"It is," Cody said, with a smile.
"It's hard," he admitted. "Not as hard as the last time. Dari was acting strangely and I knew something had gone wrong. This time though! I know where he is and I can call him whenever, but I miss him." Dari being in his arms was definitely preferable to Dari's voice in his ear.
"What about you? Empty house giving you a hard time?"

"Last time?" Toby asked. He had to think hard, and then it crept in from under the cupboards. "Oh. Right. Sorry about that." He'd show Cody his scars if he had had any!
"Yeah. I mean, I miss her, but it's not the first time we've been apart. It's mostly just boring. The house hasn't been this empty in... well, a long time." Six years or so. "Did Dari tell you what they're doing in New York?" He was sure he had, but it would still be exciting for him to talk about.

"That was before you got hurt," Cody added, looking to Toby. "I'm really glad everything turned out alright."
"Dari told me stories about how he convinced you to date Maia," he teased. It had been something that sounded like it belonged in a movie. "Dress shopping? Did I ever congratulate you?"

"Oh?" When had Cody been without Dari? Oh, that one mission. Right.
Toby laughed and shook his head. "Yeah. I was being stubborn. I actually lost my fiance some years back, so it was hard." Harder than anyone could know, and more years than they would believe.
"Yes, dress shopping, and yes, you did." He grinned to Cody. "Your boyfriend's a bit of a stereotype at times."

"When you guys first left. I figured if it was a normal thing Dari would've given me more notice." Cody shrugged.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said. Yes, now he could see why Toby would've denied his feelings. He'd probably been worried he'd lose Maia the same way. "He's really good at fashion," he mused. "I'm sure whatever dress they choose, it'll be beautiful."

Toby nodded, but said no more about their missions.
"It's alright," he said then, offering Cody a smile. He then followed the sudden change in subject. "He really is. He goes out with Maia all the time. I think it's fun for him."
He had measured out the dry ingredients and gestured to Cody. "Would you like to do the honors?

"I bet she enjoys that," Cody smiled. Women did seem to like having company during shopping trips. "Oh? Sure. Do you want to break the eggs?"

"I think she does. She was the one who mentioned him going with her first." What would they pick? That was most of the excitement: not knowing.
"Sure," he said then and grabbed a little bowl to do as said. "So is this an old family recipe or just one that your mom made?"

"What kind of dress do you imagine they'll pick?" Cody asked. "Is there one you imagine Maia wearing?"
He began mixing the dry ingredients. "Its an old family recipe. I thought I'd share, since we're family now." He smiled at Toby.

Toby shrugged. "Honestly I have no idea, but I imagine a sort of lacy classic fitted thing. Modest, though. I know it'll be modest." Maia wasn't one to flaunt her physical form.
"Oh? I have one too. I can share," he said, cracking the eggs with ease. No bits of shell ended up in the goop. "Have you made these with Dari?"

"I don't really keep up to date with wedding dresses. But Maia seems the classic type. I think you're right." Cody smiled.
"Really? We should share recipes sometime. I haven't; we haven't had a chance. I keep forgetting I want to make them with him and end up taking him somewhere instead."

"I don't either," Toby said with a little huff of laughter and a furrow of his brow. He had no idea what people were wearing nowadays. He'd never even had the time to go to a bridal shop or flip through a magazine with Caroline. He was totally clueless save what he had seen in person and on television.
"Yeah! Sure, I could write you up a copy today if you'd like. Make them once with Dari and I've got yours too." He smiled and shook his head. "He's pretty great."
